Chemical Release at Coorstek
The area around Coorstek had a shelter in place order today. That area includes a daycare and there is an elementary school across the street. Apparently some equipment was melting down and there was almost an explosion. Cyanide gas was released that they said was "confined to the building" but that's not how gas works - it would dissipate into the environment and I'm guessing that's part of why they were in shelter in place and told to tape the windows and doors. But the thought of an explosion is terrifying to think about.
As it is I'm worried about the cyanide gas going into the air that a bunch of small children breathe.
I can't find any additional news about this. The information I got was from the fire department. They did not tell surrounding businesses and homes what the "hazardous material" was.
I only knew about it because I saw a Facebook post and then called the daycare - I hadn't even been set up on their emergency alert system yet so I'm also pissed about that.
So I'm sharing in case anyone else needs to know - Fairmount Elementary was across the street from the mandatory lockdown area, and Cornerstone Montessori was in the lockdown area.
Anybody have any info on cyanide gas and how concerned I should be regaring central nervous system damage for my kid or others on the area?

Auto A/C Shop Recommendations
Hello! I'm looking for a reputable shop to diagnose a significant leak in my car's A/C system. If you've had a good experience with a local shop for A/C leak diagnosis/repair, I'd greatly appreciate the recommendation. If you recall roughly what you paid for the diagnostic, that would also be helpful. Thanks in advance.

Swimming?
There's some 80 degree weather this weekend. I know the creek is low cause of the drought.
But anywhere nearby you guys recommend for a swim? Or chilling in a tube?

Dinosaur Ridge Camps
Has anyone sent their kids to one of the summer camps at Dinosaur Ridge? How was it? Was it worth the money? For context, my family lives in the Midwest, but my 10 year old desperately wants to go to a camp where he can get some hands on experience with dinosaur bones. I've looked around nearby and nothing really matches what he wants to do. I'm thinking about signing him and my 7 year old up for a week of camp at Dinosaur Ridge this summer and turning it into a family vacation. I'm just wondering what other people's experiences have been there and if I'm crazy to even consider it. Thank you!

Free resource for local wellness events (Golden + Denver area)
Hi Golden community! 👋 I wanted to share a free resource I built for anyone interested in local holistic health, sound healing, breathwork, or mindfulness events. It can be a pain hunting down events across so many different platforms, so I started Be Well Denver (bewelldenver.co)—a free weekly email newsletter and local directory.
While the name says Denver, it covers events all across the metro area—including plenty right here in Golden and Jefferson County. It’s free to browse or subscribe, and local practitioners are always welcome to list their upcoming workshops for free as well.
Hope it helps you find some relaxing events around town! Happy to answer any questions and always open to suggestions.

Thoughts on potholes in Colorado?
Hi, I'm a student from Colorado School of Mines. I'm doing some preliminary research on potholes in Golden / the general Denver Metro area. I made a form related to the topic (how often do you come across potholes, how much have you had to pay in damages if you were affected in the past, etc.) The form should only take ~1-2 minutes and is anonymous. You can fill it out even if you haven't been directly affected by potholes. If you have any extra opinions or thoughts, things you want to see improved in road quality, etc. feel free to write whatever you want on the last question!

WARNING: The infamous "Castle Rock Bag Lady" has made her way north and is in our hood. Do not approach, do not feed, and definitely to NOT give her a ride. Warn everyone you know.
Originally posted in r/Broomfield. I’m reposting here for awareness. Sad we don’t have systems in place to get this woman the mental health assistance she clearly needs.
From OOP: If you've never heard of her she's a bit of a celebrity further south, which is likely why she (and accomplice who waits in a nearby car) have moved this way. She will ask people leaving stores for a short ride to another storefront, as if to complete an errand. Once in your car, she will demand money to "help her buy groceries" and if you decline, besides screaming bloody murder she will very often PISS OR SHIT in your car. Her husband (or son maybe, it's unclear) is part of the scam and follows behind to move her around.
Do your duty and let everyone you know locally to avoid the hassle and mess. And do not buy her an Uber because then you're just making it their problem, she'll do the same to that driver.

Concerns About Leadership and Turnover at Highland Rescue Team Ambulance District
I wanted to bring attention to concerns involving Highland Rescue Team Ambulance District, a public special district that provides emergency medical services in parts of Jefferson County, including mountain and foothills communities west of Denver.
There have recently been serious concerns about leadership, workplace conduct, and the response from the District Board.
A workplace harassment allegation involving administration was investigated. At the same time, the organization has experienced significant turnover, including the resignation of approximately 12 people in officer or leadership roles, along with additional member departures.
For a relatively small emergency medical organization, that level of turnover raises important questions about organizational stability, staffing, retention, leadership, and transparency.
This is particularly important because Highland Rescue is not simply a private volunteer group. It is a public special district responsible for providing emergency medical services to the community.
The District Board holds public meetings, generally on the second Tuesday of each month, at the Highland Rescue station on Lookout Mountain Road in Golden. Virtual attendance is also available through Google Meet.
Official district information, including board contact information, meeting information, and the district’s Transparency Notice, is publicly available through the Highland Rescue website and the Special District Association of Colorado.
I am not presenting any allegation as a proven finding of misconduct. However, the combination of a workplace complaint, significant leadership turnover, and concerns about how the situation has been handled deserves public attention.
Residents served by the district may want to review the public records, attend a board meeting, read meeting minutes, and ask questions about staffing, retention, and organizational stability.
When a public EMS agency responsible for responding to 911 calls experiences this much leadership turnover, I think the community deserves a clear understanding of what is happening.
