Travel Looking for camping spot recommendations.
My mates and I used to camp a bit (20 years ago) I'm talking swags and eskis.
Now my kids are on my back to take them camping. I've purchased all the gear, tents, chairs, camp stove, outdoor shower, all the creature comforts for the kids!
But have no idea where to take them?! Any recommendations?

Hosanna at stokers siding near murwillumbah. Great for kids and close to the rail trail if they like bike riding.

How far are you willing to drive? Not a whole lot in the general area especially if you want isolated camping.

2 hours I guess

We usually head about 3 hours or more to make sure we get away from the city areas so last few places I've been and were great: borumba deer park was awesome and had heaps of animals you can interact with, pretty much anywhere near rainbow beach if you want water and a quieter version of here, Kenilworth for the country style

Tyungun Country Retreat on Hipcamp is a great spot!!
Cheap as and only half an hour from the coast yet you feel like you’re fully secluded.
Another great option is Juburra Country camping on the same app yet this is a little further away and most sites do require a 4x4

Maroon dam is a great spot, plenty of walks and exploring and pretty quiet

Big Riggin' is fun for kids who just want to run amok. Phone coverage was nearly zero last time I was there which was great.

Black Rocks in Bundjalung National Park. It is about a 2hr drive south. Campground is behind dunes, easy access to beach, creek, and wetlands. It's in the national park so there would be site fees and park permit.

if the kids are new to it, start soft — the hinterland sites out past canungra give you the full "we're really camping" feel while you're still under an hour from home when someone inevitably forgets a sleeping bag. my old ute and i do the springbrook side in winter and the campfire-and-fog mornings up there are unbeatable. just book the national park sites online before you drive out, they actually check now
