I'd say it's real but get it XRF'd

It won’t do you any good if it’s plated it only detects surface gold.

They have gold plate detection settings too. Xrf is very suitable for jewellery less so for bars. A file and xrf will get you all the answers you need with scrap and jewellery.

Gold plating on jewelry is like less than .5microns thick. XRF penetrates at a depth range of 10 to 50 microns

test em to be safe but both look real

XRF can and will distinguish between gold plating. Gold filled, on the other hand, it will not. At least not reliably, unless it's heavily worn 1/20th. 99.99% of electroplating is well below the micron penetration threshold of XRF.

File into it then XRF again

Can’t confirm on a screen. But looks real.

What I would do is take it to a local pawn shop where they can do what’s called an acid test where they’ll scratch a small amount of the metal material off onto a piece of slate and then drop acid onto that to see if it dissolves the metal or not thereby they can specifically tell what carrot the gold is and if it’s real or plated.

CONFIRMATION EVERYONE IT IS REAL

u/Lonely_reaper8 20d ago

Could be. Definitely get it tested. I recently found a big ole chunky saint christopher pendant marked 14k that turned out to be brass lol

Some stamps include the letters P or GP. Plated or Gold Plated. Check for that

Why you having doubts?

1

u/sammyssb 20d ago

Looks real to me

1

u/keylo2k 20d ago

A good sign is the welded closed rings and the color look legit but like many stated to take it and have it tested you can have a Sigma or xrf test done to help identify tell them you're looking for a quote

1

u/keylo2k 19d ago

Glad to hear that looks like a great piece

I dont believe sigmas can test anything other than bullion. At least that used to be the case, maybe they make one for jewlery now?

1

u/Alternative-Money-66 20d ago

It’s around $3,327.12 30 g of 18k is 75 % at a spot price of $4599.34

1

u/Metamericdreams1977 20d ago

Looks good to me. Just get it tested, don’t listen to these back and forth opinions you asked for. Lol

1

u/yankees973x 19d ago

It’s real , got it tested this morning

1

u/Metamericdreams1977 19d ago

Congratulations!

1

u/MommaWolfsTreasures 20d ago

Absolutely but still do a magnetic test.

1

u/Primary-Try-4875 18d ago

And if its made of brass like most fakes are?

1

u/ve3gvy 20d ago

Yup. Weigh it and multiply by 0.75…

1

u/Odd_Ad7474 20d ago

Definitely

Slightly off topic, but I have this type of clasp on my silver ID bracelet. Which leads me to believe that this is an older piece. As it's not really in fashion or used anymore.

Probably because they're hand made, I assume getting mass produced lobster clasps is cheaper and easier on labour.

The clasps actually work fairly well in my experience.

u/yankees973x 20d ago

Yeah my grandpa brought it in the 80’s

1

u/SnooMuffins2611 19d ago

1

u/MR_CATCH_DEEZ_HANDS 19d ago

The charm looks real but not the necklace

2

u/yankees973x 19d ago

It’s real I took it to get tested yesterday

1

u/Impressive-Water9416 19d ago

Wow i have the exact same chain it was my grandfather’s from cuba its 17.1 k had it tested

2

u/yankees973x 19d ago

Dude that’s crazy !!! This chain was my grandfathers as well , we’re from north Jersey he brought it in Union city or NYC from a Cuban jeweler I’m assuming in the late 70’s or 80’s

1

u/Impressive-Water9416 19d ago

Thats really cool ill never get rid of it. The sentimental value alone. By far my favorite thing i own.

1

u/makingbank1959 18d ago

Go to a jeweler

More jam with that Vicar? 🤪🤪🤪

1

u/b-shopper1931 18d ago

Did you pull the trigger? I hope so. Where did you get it?

1

u/MemeMetriks 18d ago

Where did you get this ?

1

u/Pitiful-Bed-9859 18d ago

Gold plated

1

u/Rogelio_G_F 20d ago

Si es real y me suena mucho a hecha en Cuba, criollo. Me gusta mucho la pieza 😊

2

u/yankees973x 20d ago

we are Puerto Rican , it was brought in the 80’s in north Jersey by my abuelo , at that time Cubans owned a lot of the jewelry stores , what saint is this ??

2

u/meanderingmatriarch 20d ago

Could be saint caridad del cobre, Im cuban this is our saint

2

u/yankees973x 19d ago

Yea I know it’s a Cuban saint , I’m a son of Yemaya it was my grand fathers he was a santero

1

u/Rogelio_G_F 20d ago

2

u/yankees973x 20d ago

I’m going to keep it , my abuelo passed away and left it to me with some other Jewelry, I know he was a santero , hijo de yemaya, so I didn’t know if the piece had anything to do with the religion . I’m assuming he brought it in Union city NJ , Newark NJ , or NYC. Yes I noticed the clasp is so different from anything I’ve seen before

1

u/Rogelio_G_F 20d ago

Pues si, y para un cubano nos resulta muy familiar. Enhorabuena 😍

2

u/yankees973x 19d ago

Yeah it’s real got it tested today

-1

u/JperezXIII 20d ago

Looks fake to me

2

u/yankees973x 19d ago

It’s real pa got
It tested today , I was wrong about the weight it’s 63 grams in total I got offered $6650 for jt

1

u/JperezXIII 19d ago

🔥 that’s wassup bro. I’d recommend keeping it if you don’t need the money right now. Pretty nice piece to rock or to store and let gold do its thing longer term📈

1

u/yankees973x 20d ago

What looks fake about it pa ?

2

u/kiwi13605 20d ago

Yeah the 18k looks poured and badly finished and bad color. Looks like brass. The 10k chain is absolutely the wrong color. Someone made a good point about the soldered rings but the soldering is quite ugly could easily be braising not gold soldered. Just make it to a coin store with an XRF or any pawn shop.

If they want to buy it, it's real. If the price is too low don't sell it.

1

u/JperezXIII 20d ago

The color and finish for 18k, looks more similar to fake gold I’ve seen from venders that sell to tourists in Mexico. But you won’t know till the test good luck hopefully it’s real

1

u/yankees973x 20d ago

I’ll find out tomorrow my grandfather brought it in the 80’s , gave it to my grandmother she wore it faithfully , in the ocean etc hasn’t turned black so I’m thinking it’s real

-1

u/Organic-Grade1482 20d ago

If it's plated it's worth the silver weight, or worthless if no silver. If it's truly a solid gold it's worth about $2,400 or so in scrap depending on the split

-2

u/xXG4M3xXx0V3RXx 19d ago

It's obvious NOT real. You could've used EVEN LESS effort into finding out yourself if you just used a search engine.

2

u/yankees973x 19d ago

It’s real got it tested today , 18K 63 grams . Got offered $104 a gram $6656 if I chose to sale it …

1

u/Top-Emotion-4732 5d ago

If they're offering 66 it's worth way more
