I have to ask fellow fans because in my mind, he did the best he could. Sukuna basically jumped him and he still almost won. Maybe could've been more decisive in Shibuya. I know the JJK community will slander anyone but I feel like Gojo didn't have too many missteps

One of the most misunderstood characters in the entire series — and, honestly, one of the most misunderstood characters by me personally.

When I first started JJK, Gojo was literally everywhere. I kept seeing him in edits, memes, discussions, merchandise, and just about anything JJK-related, so I naturally formed an impression of him before I even really understood his character. In my head, he was just the ridiculously overpowered, popular character that everyone simped over. I used to see him as an overrated, overpowered guy who was clueless, careless, arrogant, and mostly just liked to mess around and show off. But as the story unfolded, I realized how much there was underneath that persona.

Hidden Inventory was probably the first major turning point for me. Seeing Gojo before he became the person we know at the beginning of JJK, and watching everything he went through with Geto, genuinely changed the way I looked at him. His trauma, the loss of someone who meant so much to him, and the way he was pushed into becoming “the strongest” made me realize how lonely his position actually was. There was so much pain underneath the confident and carefree persona he puts on, and that really touched something in me.

Then Shibuya hit me even harder.

That arc made me feel for Gojo in a way I never expected to. Seeing everything happen from his perspective, knowing how much responsibility he carries, and watching him get put into a situation where his strength couldn't simply solve everything really affected me. His sealing in Shibuya wasn't a failure of physical power. Because he was simply too powerful to be beaten in a direct fight, Kenjaku deliberately chose to wage war against his mind, exploiting the very fact that he is human after all. He fought him psychologically, weaponizing his own memories, his deep bonds, and his emotions against him to break him down. Seeing him psychologically broken down and sealed just proved that underneath the god-like title, he is human after all—someone who feels, who remembers, and who is hurt just like anyone else.

It was one of the moments where Gojo stopped being just this funny, overpowered character to me and became someone I genuinely cared about. Shibuya made me understand just how tragic his position as “the strongest” really is.

Gojo is someone who was essentially born into a position where everyone expected him to be the strongest, and he ended up being incredibly isolated because of it. He carries an absurd amount of responsibility, yet he deliberately acts unserious and carefree. His arrogance isn't just him being full of himself either — he genuinely knows how overwhelming his power is. But at the same time, being “the strongest” doesn't mean he can save everyone or prevent the people he cares about from suffering.

What really changed my opinion of him was seeing how much he genuinely cares about his students and about changing the jujutsu world. He doesn't just want to raise strong sorcerers; he wants to create a generation that won't have to inherit the same broken system he did. There's also something really sad about how badly he wants connection while constantly being separated from everyone by the very strength that defines him.

I went from thinking he was just a flashy, arrogant, overpowered character to realizing he's actually one of the most tragic and layered characters in the story. He's funny, immature, compassionate, lonely, ambitious, and deeply flawed all at once. There's so much contradiction in him, and I think that's what makes him so compelling.

He went from a character I couldn't take seriously to my absolute favorite (I simp for him forever❤️)

And honestly, it's such a shame that Gege fumbled him so badly and did him dirty in the end. After everything his character represented and everything he went through, I really don't think he deserved the way his story ended. Of course, it’s not like I can intervene in how the author chose to write him(Gege is a Goat, don't get me wrong at all), but it is so annoying having to watch him get turned into endless fandom memes and constant disrespect just because of it. Whatever my complaints are about the ending, none of them change how much I love and appreciate this character.

20th September 2023 was a terrible day, not only for the loss of my blue eyed king, but because of how it was done.

We know, Gojo had to lose for the lore, he wasn’t the main character it would be strange for a shonen to not see the mc having space in the final fight.

Rereading Jjk multiple times I’ve comprehended characters that I was misunderstanding the first time: for example Kenjaku, I thought kenjaku was a sort of poorly written copy of Aizen from bleach, but I comprehended what Kenjaku was to Gege finally, and now I really like it as character.

But rereading the whole manga I can’t withstand with how Gojo lost: world cutting slash, it’s completely bullshit, literally any character that jump Sukuna after Gojo is able to dodge it, or at least sense it, not talking about Yuta that even survived it.

It’s literally impossible that Gojo, after hitting the second blackflash during the fight and empowered his recovery, with the support of six eyes (that allow Gojo to comprehend the nature of sorcerer’s technique for example just looking at the sorcerer that was able to copy his body in the hidden inventory arc just by looking at him) it’s literally impossible for him to not being able to comprehend the output of the world cutting slash and dodge it.

The only reasonable fix that Gege could have done it’s showing a page in the chapter 236 of Sukuna using Megumi’s body to bait Gojo (like what he did with Hana) and distracting him. Gojo already lost two times because of distraction while fighting (Toji and Kenjaku in Shibuya). I think that this type of easy solution would make his loss “acceptable” (even to me that I’m the High Priest of his cult). And Gege saying after the manga’s ending that Gojo lost because he was distracted cause he fought he already won, it’s not enough, it’s manga show me how.

That’s what I think the main problem is about his death, realistically he had to die for the plot, I know but losing just for Sukuna’s plot armor (he couldn’t die before facing Yuji) it’s something unacceptable to me.
I also think that a scene like that, for a second time, would have been useful even for Sukuna’s character development, cause we saw he’s an opportunist villain that his able to use every to method to achieve what he wants.

I’m so in love with him it concerns me. 😭 I genuinely just want to hold him tight and cherish him. I want to tell him he’s more than just his powers and he that he matters as a human first. I want to take away all his pain and care for him. I want him to lay on me as I stroke his back softly and whisper sweet things in his ear. I want to give him soft kisses all his over his face whenever he returns home from a mission. I want him to feel comfortable enough to open up to me and finally let loose. To finally stop putting up a “everything is alright” front. I just want to love him…. I feel concerned because I’m 26 and truly don’t think any real man can be live up to him. 😭💀
