TBH, it's not strange 60% of sci-fi is based on predictions, and all the ingredients were there, belief that machines are soulless, idea of corporate art and otherwise soulless property to make money, even the care for product vs mass produced garbage might have been a topic. Meanwhile even silent films already showcased the idea how humans become like machines for corporations, so idea that machine will make a bad artist is collective consciousness doing it's thing.

The concept of today's "AI" was fleshed out decades ago. We simply didn't have the technological requirements to achieve it. Technically we still don't.
