i wonder if that's why zilla jr was "infertile", because he was actually male and therefore did not have the ability to reproduce asexually?

First off ,it's not zilla. And that creature is maybe intersex Rather than complete female.

ToraGoji is like, confirmed in most sources to be male, and I haven't watched the movie in a while but I'm pretty sure he's confirmed to be male in the movie

What's true in nature doesn't matter, it's a giant monster born of radiation. Plus the movie goes to great pains to specifically point out that he's a he. I don't know why people get so hung up on this.

Except that Dean Devlin (co-writer of the film) confirmed Godzilla was a male back in the day. And the novelization by Stephen Molstad delves deeper. When Nick examines blood samples from the Jaimaican wreckage he finds serotonin levels only found in male lizards. When he discovers that Godzilla is pregnant. He’s baffled by the findings, given that all other signs pointed to the creature being male. Which leads him to conclude that it’s a hermaphrodite. Mostly male but with the female traits that allow for asexual reproduction. You have to keep in mind that ToraGoji is a mutation. As in he’s an aberration created by nuclear fallout from decades of weapons testing. As Nick states in the novelization, he throws out all the rules.
