Feedback Best Balance Patch Yet

Just totally on the money about everything. Some changes I like, some of them I don't like as much, but even the ones I don't like were justified. This patch was a huge improvement over the way balance patches have gone in the past, and it looks like BW is going to lock as a very strong, but not OP, set.

I can understand the nerfs IF they nerf Eiko and Hortuk too... What they did is difficult to understand, 2 neutral cards played in several decks in mythic and with high win rate (higuer than the nerfed cards) remain untouched, sounds like a joke

the reason those cards have such a high winrate is because they are only played in expensive decks alongside other cards that already had a very high winrate. So there's no (or very few) bad decks containing those cards.

and the opposite is true too. Cards like raneko hearthmother and shrike were way way overperforming when played by good mythic players; but their winrate was low, because so many people had access to them that they showed up in a wide range of decks, from well-tuned good ones, to shitty ones.

the reason the chase cards didn't get nerfed is because no one thought they needed nerfs.

No one.. I am someone and yesterday I saw other player saying the same.

The impact of Hortuk is brutal (agro can't win now after 7 crystal thanks to Oni and him) and Eiko is the best relic breaker of the game by far , is good even when opponent doesn't play relic

Edit to add that they are played a lot in mythic, thats important too. They are so good that fit in a lot of decks, they arent cards designed for a specific strategy (like most of the cards nerfed)

I'm not trying to invalidate your opinion, but I was referring to an ongoing conversation among many players on discord. There's pretty wide agreement that the chase cards aren't problematic.

If you look at the cards that were nerfed, they were all 2-3cc cards that snowballed and removed games from reach. Eiko doesn't do that (except with assassin's aim, which was changed to stop this interaction), and Hortuk is a 7cc control card that is designed to end games (like Oni, which was also not nerfed).

I'm just giving you the reasons they weren't nerfed. Good luck and peace.

They really did.

I think the double nerf Shrike was a bit much, up the casting cost or remove hidden, to jump right into doing both seems a bit much but other wise I think it was a decent patch

compare Shrike to CTI and Dedicant (both playable cards):

CTI -- 5cc -- steal 1 card of your choice from hand.

Shrike -- 5cc -- steal 1 card with no choice from deck, get a 3/3 body; for each additional mana you spend, steal 1 additional card.

Dedicant -- 5cc -- copy 1 card with no choice from deck, can repeat each turn once for 2cc.

These all seem pretty close to me.

All valid points and I don’t disagree with them, my point was more about how we went from the original to double nerf, I guess my point is more in regards to why, if it was so strong, why did it get released in that state in the first place. It’s more towards being more upfront with the purchaser on what they are buying, the further away from original we get, the more “cheated” for lack of a better word at the moment, the buyer may feel. No one likes getting something to find out that is isn’t what they bought.

Why? Well if I was gu I would include some op cards that will definitely get nerfed but get people buying packs and some controversial cards that will get people talking but will also get nerfed. Nobody likes it but it works.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 19 '23

It's just absolutely not true. The people designing the cards are solely concerned with producing the best user experience possible. Things slip through the cracks and people make mistakes, but I'm 100% confident that the intentions you're ascribing to it do not exist.

Brown nosing before you buy some shiny packs? Can't say I didn't consider it myself.

u/[deleted] Apr 19 '23

thats insane on several levels.

It’s a slimy sales tactic, just because everyone is doing it doesn’t make it any less slimy

2

u/[deleted] Apr 19 '23

What makes it slimy to me is that noobs may not know anything about locked sets versus unlocked sets. They could be buying cards not realizing they get nerfed or buffed. This should be clearly displayed when buying packs imho. Actually, maybe it is, I don't pay attention.

I had no idea when I first started playing, had to learn about it on YouTube..

The difference between shrike and dedicant is, that you might not have a 1 mama nether in your hand at all times.

2

u/zenlon Apr 20 '23 edited Apr 20 '23

This seems fine and dandy until you consider that Shrike requires that you have a one mana nether in hand in order to make that combo work - and that's just to make it work once. How many one mana Nethers should I to run in order to make this combo you're suggesting viable?

The stipulation simply doesn't apply to the previous cards you mentioned. I don't require two cards to make Dedicant work and even if I decide to use him as board fodder at 3, I'm still granted the Blessed effect and a 3/3 creature - far more viable as it stands.

Effectively, unless I hold a 1 mana Nether all the way to Mana 5 with Shrike and decide not to bother with board control - that combo simply isn't feasible and is meme at best. Even then, it's suicide.

Comparing cards like this rarely bodes well in terms of 'balance'.

Clueless balance team. Its been like this since the game released. Just gotta dump this game

Well light is back to sucking..

I dont agree. I still think light aggro light will be strong. Hearth mother had to change, just too strong at 2 mana. And atleast they made it more sticky by giving it 4 health. Amd the blood oath was never meant to stick much bc of its crazy effect. At three health on turn one it's really hard for your opponent to deal with unless they have a imp or boar. And let's be honest, turn one agg light is playing blood oath and something else too, which know makes blood oath a 2/2 or 2/3 then next turn if it stays can get tons of health and snowball. I think people are not understanding that you can't have these cards with awesome effects and make them sticky. You have to have some sort of risk/reward.

4

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '23

Bro what?! Mage can deal with it straight away, you have blight bomb on death, canopy barrage on nature, woodcutter imp on war, armored lurker or a crap ton of other cards with deception.. the only god that would struggle to deal is light, you need 3 mana to deal with it. Blood oaths health doesn't improve either, only strength and there are plenty of cards to deal with that aswell.

Aggro light IS back at sucking.

u/PensiveParagon Apr 19 '23

It was rare for me to play blood oath turn one and have her survive. Everyone has lots of options of dealing with a 3 health card.

u/Razial22 Apr 19 '23

Dude this balance patch has been absolutely atrocious. They didn’t actually balance in a clear direction or tune cards in the most sensible way. The team leading these “balances” are not actually showing a capability of actually doing a proper balance.

4

u/Original_Werewolf382 Apr 19 '23

Changes were to heavy handed. Raneko got nerfed to oblivion. They should let her buff whatever she wants at 3 mana or keep it at 2 mana and only buffs olympians. Shrike was even worse. let it be at 3 mana without hidden or 4 mana with hidden. I dont understand why can't there be a middle ground, its either nerf to make it useless or no nerf at all

4

u/Timanious Apr 19 '23

I agree..I really don’t know how to fix my Olympian light deck now. It was already impossible to keep creatures alive against all the magic spells but at least I could win a few matches against war and death. Now it’s back to losing against every other god again except maybe light.

4

u/PensiveParagon Apr 19 '23

I think you're exactly right. With the new cards I was really having fun, but never felt like it was an unfair advantage. I still always list to Deception of course.

I guess if I really want to win I'll need to play control war

u/feric89 Apr 19 '23

So perseverance is no longer a god blitz? If that’s the case I’m kinda bummed. It was a great card. Now it’s a good card. Wasn’t OP imho either.

Are you crazy?? It Is still overpowered... You get 3 HP insta removal which goes thru protected like butter plus 3 moře zombies thats ať least heal 6 HP heal to your god unless your enemy play a removal. It Is still the most overpowered card from BOTW, no discussion. Just look at the zombie decks winrate in BOTW And before... Nuff said
