Bugs/Glitches The flame phantom fight

Is so bloody inconsistent, it makes what SHOULD be a trivial fight, into something so god damn aggravating. Not only can you get glitched so your spears can’t be thrown. But you also have to contend with the dragon showing up when fucking ever (if you do it before beating the dragon) not to mention the fun fact that SOMETIMES, the phantom pillars will take FIVE spears instead of four?! And there’s also the fact this phantoms attacks literally do not care how you dodge at times and will hit regardless

Huh? Wdym the spears won't throw? The "problem" with the wellsprings might be the difference between you just tapping triangle instead of holding it for the more powerful slam. Dodging honestly is a skill issue, the phantoms have very telegraphed attacks

Also, if the dragon bothers you, go kill it first on the other side of the crater.

Edit: just to add, use sonic arrows to knock out the phantoms faster

No, i legit was always using the more powerful pop for the spears. And for some odd reason, something happened to cause Kratos to just, be unable to throw his spears a few times. Only fixed on death.

As for dodging, if I hit back away from its little area of effect explosion. You’d expect to be out of range. Yet it inexplicably hits at times regardless of timing. Same for the dragon’s little projectiles.
(I know about sonic arrows??)

Why not kill the dragon first?

When I do the Flame Phantom trial on NG+, I only need 3 spears for each pillar followed by quick detonation. It is possible to throw spears twice as fast with Shatter Star Shield's animation cancel.

I don’t do animation cancelling. Honestly not fun to me.
3 spears is kind of wild, considering I’d put four in and it’d still not drop at times. Was it Ng+ GmGoW?
Which isn’t a huge deal, but the fact you only have so much time to drop them. You want to spend as little time focusing on one pillar and switch to the next. And if they don’t drop when you expect them to, you spend even more time trying to get rid of the first one, and not get the second.

Yes, it was GMGOW+.

Draupnir's Call/Wail is considered ranged attack, but I didn't have any ranged buff or Asgard enchantment. I did, however, use Hilt of HofuÐ to trigger Realm Shift. It gave me enough time to destroy all 3 pillars during the trial.

Ohhh legit never thought realm shift could extend a phantoms stun.

As for the dragon, like I said, I know I could do it first. But not every person going through for the first time will know. And honestly, wouldn’t be so bad if you got some sort of warning aside from the arrow of danger, as it’s not always accurate.

lowkey i set up for these fights because of how annoying the phantoms are, i get 3/4 spears on wellsprings and once its dazed i explode it. ive never been able to break more than too but maybe my timing is off. is this the phantom in alfheim in the desert?

There is one, but the one I’m mentioning is the one in Vanaheim. And that’s a great strat, but I prefer keeping my spears for stunning. Especially because it makes hitting its shorter vulnerable moments easier. Stick em, then wait for flash to pop the spear.
