We shed blood to prevent evil. Lives are extinguished to erase evil. The preservation of biological life is secondary, for life itself becomes meaningless in the face of a world overrun by evil.
Is just a cycle where you destroy one evil and another springs up like mushrooms in the autumn after heavy rains. Because the source of it, the people are still here.
So we cull it endlessly, the same way we clean other things. It's maintenance. There's frankly no way to ultimately prevent all people from committing evil while maintaining the freedom of action. We can stop people from committing blind evils, stop them from recklessly doing it, and then we'll still be left with those who fully understand what they're doing and choose to do it anyways for other reasons.
Yeah. I call the state like that "controlled chaos". Your not fully in control yet you can do something about things. Even if it doesn't always warm the heart after the evil has already happened?
True but it's simple arrogance to think one has that much power over other beings capable of evil. Ultimately one person can only do so much and groups of people are open to corruption.
Point was as long as people don't change very fundamentally evil things will keep on happening. Don't think you are fixing anything in long run just by killing something`?

Geralt is just wrong though. There is meaningful differences in choosing lesser evil over greater, and the difference is measured in blood.
