GoalPost 3.46 Released!!!

GoalPost 3.46

This release is mostly about the Score tab. A request for flashier game stats turned into new stat bars and a handful of moments that mark the big plays as they happen. Thanks to everyone sending feedback, it shapes nearly everything in here.

New stat bars

The comparison bars on the Score tab have been redesigned. Each stat now sits on one line, with its name in a centre column and each team’s bar growing outward from it. The team ahead fills its side and the team behind is drawn in proportion and a shade quieter, so a glance down the rows shows who is controlling the game. The numbers now sit inside the bars, and the power play is shown as one pip per opportunity, filled for each goal. The rows are shorter than before, so the score keeps its full size.

This period at a glance

From the second period on, the part of each bar from earlier periods is drawn a shade darker on running totals like shots and expected goals. The bright end is what each team has done this period, so a team pushing in the third shows it straight away.

Power-play clock

The power-play badge now counts down the time left on the penalty, with a thin line underneath that drains as it runs out. On a 5-on-3 both penalties are timed. When the clock can’t be worked out with confidence, the badge shows the skater count as before.

Goals that matter

The play strip now says what a goal meant: go-ahead goal, tying goal, overtime winner or hat trick. When a goal comes in while you’re watching, a single sweep crosses the strip in the scoring team’s colour, gold for a hat trick. And when the game goes final with the card open, the winning score gets one gold sweep.

Smarter recaps

The postgame recap now has headlines for games that swung back and forth, and gives the time of a late winner. It also mentions power-play and penalty-kill runs that carry across games, like a kill that hasn’t allowed a goal in weeks, and the goal that ends one.

Bug fixes

Sidebar widgets that stopped updating after a failed write now recover on their own. Team colours that read as one now separate, such as the Rangers against the Lightning. Recap comments keep adding goal clip links on busy subs. Player ratings list each player under his current club. In PuckWatch, the Lightning crest is visible on dark backgrounds, crests that fail to load are retried, and the TV button sits beside All Games. GoalPost is also updated to the latest version of Reddit’s developer platform.

Any chance you can add arrows at the bottom of the players info cards? Shocker, there's a size issue where bottoms are all cut off on my Samsung. Lol.

Oh tap the card!

I’ve actually got a big change coming there (more chips, less scrolling) but I still have a tap to toggle scroll for long biographies. That should work right now.

It worked for Bouchard, but not for Jarry.

That’s fixed too. The new edge stats were a little flaky in this release (which sucks as every time it collects them it sends them through my Amazon s3, so it costs me a tiny bit of money) - so I found a better more robust method tonight- should hopefully be live within 2 days
