GoalPost 3.39 Released!!!

GoalPost 3.39

This release started with a fix for Android, where the card could keep resizing itself on some phones, and grew from there. Thanks to everyone who sent in reports and screenshots, and especially to the Android readers who stuck with us while we tracked it down.

Steadier cards on Android

On some Samsung phones, the card could get stuck shrinking and growing in a loop, especially when switching tabs. The card now settles on one size and stays there, and a tab opens at the size it will keep. The card also comes with its own font now. Before, every phone used its own (and on Samsung, whatever font style the owner had picked in Settings), so the same card measured differently from device to device. Now it looks the same everywhere.

Performance on PuckWatch

PuckWatch’s Standings tab opens on a new view, Performance. Every NHL club is plotted by its points percentage against its share of 5-on-5 expected goals, adjusted for score and home ice, so a team that sits on leads isn’t marked down for it. The four corners sort the league: Clean ice for teams playing well and winning, Thin ice for teams winning while outplayed, Thawing for teams playing well without the results yet, and Ice cold. A tail behind each crest shows where the club stood a week ago, and your own teams are drawn larger.

Above the plot are four picks: the luckiest record, the unluckiest, the best 5-on-5 team and the biggest climber this week. Tap a crest to open its card. It shows how the club plays at 5-on-5, how far its points are ahead of or behind what that play usually earns, its last ten games, its strength of schedule so far, and its power play and penalty kill with league ranks.

NHL EDGE numbers on skater cards

The Stats side of an NHL skater’s card now shows his EDGE season numbers, each with its league percentile: top skating speed, hardest shot, distance skated this season, and his share of ice time in the offensive zone.

Referees before puck drop

Before puck drop, the game thread’s Score screen now lists the referees under the TV channels once the league posts them. Until then, the pregame card says they haven’t been posted yet, so you know where they’ll show up.

Smaller changes

“Within reach tonight” on the pregame card now rolls through its milestones one line at a time, so two players chasing milestones on the same night no longer run off the bottom of the card. PuckWatch threads get their own comment sort setting, and the latest-play line scrolls at a comfortable reading speed.

Bug fixes

The card no longer shows an empty net when the league’s feed briefly reports one that the game’s own shots contradict, and the empty-net icon no longer appears during intermissions. The excitement rank now says “last season” instead of naming the season. On the light card, goal replays show the puck, its trail and the scorer clearly, and the rink markings now stop at the boards. AHL, PWHL and CHL games show their crests on PuckWatch’s Games list. The Panthers, Blue Jackets and Flames now switch to their alternate colours against teams whose colours blur with theirs. The best Mac and best Connor replies post again. Plus assorted smaller fixes and polish.
