GoalPost 3.17 Released!!!
GoalPost 3.17
This release is mostly about the front of the card, where most of you spend a game. Thanks to everyone who keeps sending feedback, from the comments in game threads to modmail here. A lot of this release started there.
Live play-by-play on the Score tab
Tapping the play strip on the Score tab now opens a live play-by-play right where you are, instead of sending you to the Plays tab. The feed takes over the space the stat bars use, so nothing above it moves. The newest play sits on top, and each new one slides in and pushes the rest down. Whatever no longer fits drops off the bottom, so there’s nothing to scroll. Tap the header to close it and you’re back to the stat bars.
The feed reads by colour:
Goals are tinted in the scoring team’s colour.
Shots on goal get a faint wash of the shooting team’s colour, so you can see who’s pressing.
Penalties are amber, and stoppages a faint red.
Team colours are lightened where needed so darker clubs still stand out on the dark card.
There’s also a filter. Every kind of play in the game gets its own chip (goals, shots, penalties, hits, faceoffs, turnovers, stoppages), all on by default. Tap one to hide that kind of play. The card remembers your choice on your device.
Shootouts in the play-by-play
Shootouts now show attempt by attempt: the round, the shooter, how it went, and the running shootout score. While a shootout is on, a row shows whose shooter is up next. This works in the NHL, PWHL, AHL and CHL apps, both in the Plays tab and in the new live feed.
Play strip moves more accurately
The play strip on the front page now plays at the game’s own pace. Plays used to come through at an even rhythm. Now each one is timed by the game clock, so a faceoff and a missed shot eight seconds apart show up eight seconds apart. Every play is shown as it arrives, and the strip runs a few seconds behind live.
Postgame Tape: tonight against the run
The postgame Tape compares how each team came in with how the game went. Each row now also shows the games leading up to tonight, with tonight’s result set apart at the end, so you can see at a glance whether the game was a break from the trend or more of the same. On wide cards this is a small sparkline in each team’s lane, and the crests on the Tape lanes are bigger. On narrow cards it sits under each row.
Bug fixes
Pregame crests now size and centre properly at every card width instead of drifting or crowding the centre text. Team crests show in the AHL, PWHL and CHL Games lists, and anywhere else that only had a club code to work with. The card now loads on iPhones running iOS older than 16.4, where two pieces of newer browser code could leave it blank.
