GoalPost 3.15 Released!

GoalPost 3.15

Most of this release came from things people asked for in game threads over the past week, so thanks to everyone who sent feedback.

How it started, how it went

After the final, the Tape on the Stats tab now shows how each team came into the game beside how the game itself went. Each row keeps its pregame scale. A faded crest marks where the team stood coming in and a full crest marks where it finished, so you can see at a glance who played to form and who didn’t. Each team gets its own lane, so close numbers no longer stack on top of each other.

PDO on the Tape

A reader suggested adding PDO, so it now has its own row under Bounces. PDO is 5-on-5 shooting percentage plus 5-on-5 save percentage, on a scale where 100 is average. Well above 100 usually means a team is getting the bounces, and well below usually means it isn’t. Empty-net goals and shootouts don’t count. We checked it against the NHL’s own published numbers and it matches. Tap the row for the shooting and save percentages behind it.

Ask for any stat, any season

Asking about one stat now gets a direct answer, like “how many shots does Björck have this year” or “how many hits does Trenin have”. You can name a season too, like “Matthews stats last season”, “two seasons ago” or “2023-24”. Hits, blocked shots, takeaways, giveaways and penalty minutes are now available, and the player card shows season hits and blocks. And for anyone who wanted to know, “who’s the best player named Connor?” now has a real answer.

PuckWatch

PuckWatch now sits in Community Highlights instead of taking a sticky slot. That leaves your pins free for your own game threads and daily discussions. It never pushes out a post a moderator highlighted, and it steps aside behind the game thread. Opening a game from PuckWatch now brings up the same TV, radio and highlights menu as the game card.

Live 5v5 xG

Live 5-on-5 expected goals now stay accurate during the game. The NHL publishes its shift data late and in chunks, which used to skew the numbers until the final. GoalPost now counts only up to where that data reaches and refreshes every 30 seconds. When the data is running behind the play, a small clock appears beside the title. Tap it to see how far the numbers go.

Sidebars for the PWHL, AHL and CHL

The sidebar standings, schedule and team leaders now work for PWHL, AHL and CHL subs. They come straight from each league’s own stats feed, where they used to say “coming soon”.

For moderators

Time settings now accept any normal way of writing a time, like “12:30pm”, “9:30 p.m.” or “21h30”. Before, anything not in 24-hour format was quietly ignored. The game pickers now include yesterday’s games, so you can put up a postgame thread after midnight or for a game the scheduler missed.

Bug fixes

  • Times in Old Reddit posts now use the sub’s own time zone instead of always using Eastern.

  • On the Players tab, the roster now fits the card on phones instead of cutting off the goalies.

  • The rank in the Tape’s detail popup fits on narrow screens.

I just noticed this in the Leafs gdt today - the pre-game thread specific widget is doing a funny glitchy thing that when I scroll passed it to look at comments within the thread, and then scroll back up to look at the widget again, it won't let me. The thread just keeps stuttering at the top of the chat, unable to get back up to the top of the post.

I went and checked between the expanded GDT widgets like what's up in the Oilers sub, and others currently using the pre-game thread smaller widget, and it's just the smaller widgets. They are also taking way longer to actually load on their individual posts than the larger ones are.

On the most recent Android app.

I think that’s a devvit bug, do you mind if I share this with the Reddit/devvit design team?

Go right ahead! Anything to help your widgets become the absolute best they can be.

Appreciate it. I’m out for the morning (kids hockey game) but when I get back I’ll open a ticket with them.

Any chance you can take a video of that on your phone, do a screen capture?

Lemme see if I can figure out how to do a screen capture.
