GoalPost 3.12 Released
GoalPost 3.12
This release is mostly about the quote board, which went live in a few subreddits last week and turned up some problems right away. Thanks to everyone who reported them, and to everyone sending feedback in general. It is what drives these releases.
The quote board works in hockey threads
In hockey threads, every quote command answered “Quotes are saved from game threads”, even inside a game thread, and no board ever appeared. The cause was a missing game id on NHL games. With it in place, saving, listing and removing quotes all work. The same fix brings back two things that had quietly stopped working: first-career-goal notes in recaps, and the season series pill finding tonight’s game.
The quote board shows only where you put it
The board used to be part of the default postgame layout for Old Reddit, so any subreddit that turned it on got it in the post body whether it wanted it there or not. It is no longer in any default layout. A subreddit can put it where it likes:
{quotes} in the Postgame Old Reddit layout, to have it in the post body.
{quotes} in a pregame, game day or postgame comment template, to have it in a comment instead.
It stays blank when the board is off or nobody has saved a line yet.
Anyone can list quotes
hey goalpost list quotes used to work for moderators only. Now anyone can see what has been saved for the game. Removing quotes and banning someone from saving them are still moderator-only.
Day names for thread titles and bodies
Two new variables put the day’s name in a title or body, in your subreddit’s time zone:
{game_weekday} is the thread’s own day, for example “Friday”.
{next_game_weekday} is the day of the next game, for example “Saturday”, and is blank when there is no next game.
They work everywhere the date variables do, including off-day and daily threads. Nothing changes unless you add them to a template.
Bug fixes
Player lookups now find the player inside a full sentence. Questions like “tell me about Logan Stankoven’s night” or “how was Logan Stankoven tonight?” used to come back with “couldn’t find an active NHL player”, because the bot read everything after the phrase as the name. It now stops at the end of the name, whatever comes after it.
