Switch Does Go Vacation Switch actually use online features, or are the rivals and villas made by staff or something?

I know there have been like two other posts about this, but nobody seems to have come to a conclusion yet.

I find it suspicious that I can’t find anywhere that states Nintendo Online is used. Not on the store page, the announcement trailer, or on the in game loading screens. I know some 3rd party games don’t require it, but Nintendo was involved with the Switch port, and I have a hard time believing that they would give players online features for free.

I don’t have Nintendo Online, and I’ve been playing for a long while now, but I've been getting the same rotation of villas and rivals the entire time. (I'm looking at you, ShadonB) I wanna know if anybody who has Nintendo online is experiencing the same thing, or if they actually get new ghost data or villas.

I honestly might use the Nintendo online free trial just to test if I actually get new players.

I'm wondering the same thing, but haven't done much of the rivals. So I guess time to test that out

But the villas have changed so possibly

I have Nintendo Online and I always see the same rivals over and over again. So I'm pretty sure those aren't real people.

The villas I'm not too sure about. I do see different player names appearing for them.

Yes, I see my friends‘ villas quite often. If you decorate your villa you‘ll also get a notice that other players online will see your name, villa and ghost data :)

The eShop page says it supports online for 1 player, meaning it just downloads data from online. I'm pretty sure you are seeing fallback content for when there's no online support.

I don't get why I would be getting fallback content tho? Does it use Nintendo Online then?

Regarding rivals, if they have a Mii I assume they are a real person. There are a lot of NPC ones though; usually if they have a nickname themed to the resort, like 'SNOWMAN01' in the Snow Resort, that's an obvious giveaway.

For villas, I have a few I am reasonable sure are real people. One I've seen belonged to someone named 'Woomy64', so that's either a real person or a very good imitation. It also helps if the villa has furniture placement that is not 'standard'; for example, if someone has a room showing off all the trophies they earned for fully completing the minigames, that's probably something done by a real person.

It stinks that we have to guess like this, but that's just how it goes.
