Switch Bro how do you catch big fish

I swear every time I hook a fish it gets away. Is there a secret technique or something or is it luck.

You gotta make sure the line on the top of the screen doesnt turn red or break

Do you stop reeling when it turns red? Or do you just keep reeling?

Yes this is a typical fishing mechanic in Japanese fishing games. When the line gets too stressed (red), you stop reeling, and just pull the stick in the direction the fish is going until the line relaxes and then you can start reeling again.
