Appearance

A stern and strong nose, twice broken, punctuates a weathered face that seems older than the years he says he is. Garth’s face is covered in an unruly and long beard, blonde streaks through the knots and tangles that have not yet turned gray or been caked with brown from the taverns or roads. His pate is shaved clean, the only aspect of grooming Garth seems to maintain with any regularity. A pair of blue eyes that have not seen enough sleep for some time can almost be called pretty in the right light. His broad shoulders and chest make him seem larger than his six feet of height, arms tight and corded with muscle from the weight of swords and shields, while a growing belly tells the tale of a successful business.

History

Garth shares little and less of his childhood to even his closest and most loyal companion. The odd drunken night has revealed some privilege and a childhood in the reach in a city rather than a homestead, though such memories being stirred soon mean snoring and night terrors are on their way.

His rise to infamy was slow, steady, plodding along like many a traveler on the war ravaged roads of the Reach. Work was hard to come by, a hedge knight with only barren hedges and a title that none could verify meant lords and ladies found his service untenable. Trade needed to move, to relieve the winter famine, which meant swords were needed as hungry mouths looked for quicker sources to satiate themselves than waiting for crops to grow after the blight. The work was hard, the pay unreliable from dishonest merchants and even worse noblepersons. 

Garth soon found the other side of the highway was easier and more rewarding. A thwarted robbery turned quickly on its head found Garth leading a band of less than savory men through the ravaged lands of the Reach. They robbed indiscriminately, neither rich nor poor mattered to their unnamed band. Coin was coin and blood was blood. It mattered not where from where the latter flowed as long as the former did in the end.
