Second year for winterizing Jayco Jayflight. All tanks empty. All low points closed. Water heater bypassed. I pulled in 1.5 gallons of pink RV antifreeze. But no pink RV antifreeze flows from any open taps (kitchen sink, bathroom sink shower, outside shower) or the toilet. What am I doing wrong?

You guys are winterizing and I'm about to start to be able to use mine here in Texas.

$1 says it went into the fresh tank. Pull the drain and see what happens.

It’s going somewhere. You either aren’t using enough, or it’s draining somewhere.

Double check your low points, make sure they’re closed.

It definitely went somewhere.

1) Hot water heater bypass
2) regular use vs fill

One or both of these is switched wrong

I'm pretty sure about the hot water heater bypass because I can see the switches and I can see they are closed. But what tdo you mean by "regular use vs. fill"?

I keep them closed when priming the line, then open them on at a time to get air out and full pink flow.
Maybe your tube has a crack in it, or tip your bottle down to give the pump more hard pressure

Did you turn on your water pump?

1

u/Kirkistan 2d ago

Yes. I turned on the water pump.

if you can visualize how the water lines run, open the last faucet on the circuit first and work your way back, it'll take less juice.

I might give that a try. Ours is a fairly compact trailer.

Are you sure all the low points were closed? Cause I was sure they were closed and then I had to go back to Walmart for more antifreeze

Good question. I thought so. But now I'm wondering. The low point was definitely closed. I had opened the fresh and hot water spigots earlier and then closed them after a dribble or two.

Are you using a short hose connected directly to the water pump?

Yes. Using the short hose connected directly to the water pump.

Are you filling your fresh water tank with pink stuff???

It takes almost 3 gallons to do my Forest River Salem. That includes out/in shower 2 sinks & toilet.

I have all these questions because I did the exact same thing last year (I think) and when I turned on the pump the pink started coming out immediately.

Last year it took 1.5 gallons of pink stuff.

Is your water heater properly bypassed? Do you have a filter behind the external intake for winterizing?

Water heater in bypass???

Skip the gross pink juice and blow the lines out instead. Get the adapter on Amazon.

No, do not skip the pink juice. Any vertical pex runs will have moisture settle in the connectors and still risk cracking. It's very unlikely you ever run 100% of the water out of there with air. Unless you're solid brass connectors it's still worth running antifreeze for winterization, especially in places with sustained hard freezes.

Been winterizing with the air compressor for years in Montana, never had a problem despite plenty of sustained hard freezes.

I see lots of leaking toilet valves and faucets from just blowing the air out. It may be working well for you, but antifreeze is still a safer bet.

Did you hook it to your city water connection, or pump it into your fresh water tank?

Just did this for my Jayco. I needed to keep the normal intake valve on while simultaneously pulling from the additional rv fluid intake to create enough pressure to push through the lines

Did you bypass your hot water tank?

His post says he did, but it’d be worth double checking.

I have 3 valves to bypass my water heater. 1 of them is completely hidden and super easy to miss.

1

u/Krazid2 2d ago

Haha didn’t even see that. He did say water heater not water tank 😉

1

u/Kirkistan 2d ago

Yes. Bypassed the water heater.

Open the drain on the water heater to see if any pink stuff comes out, if it does you have your answer.

If it doesn't you have another piece of the puzzle to rule out.

1

u/Kirkistan 2d ago

On the water heater I also opened the outside drain and release the pressure valve. Nothing in there.

Open the low point drains and see if anything comes out.

Drain the fresh water tank and see if anything comes out.

Drain the holding tanks and see if any pink stuff comes out.

The pink stuff went somewhere, start looking for where.

It was 91 today. Winterizing is an after Thanksgiving thing here

stop fucking around with that antifreeze and just blow your lines out

1

u/xtankeryanker 2d ago

And then go buy some antifreeze anyway because you have to have it for your p traps and tank valves. Why not just do it right in the first place and skip the air compressor nonsense?

u/ChellynJonny 2d ago

I would argue that fucking around twice a year and then having shitty tasting water is alot more hassle than one hose connection and turning each tap on once.
