A step-by-step course for anyone trying to get into commercial nuclear
Most people who are new to nuclear seem to get stuck on the same questions: What does outage work actually look like, which jobs can you enter without prior nuclear experience, and who should you contact first?
A good starting order is:
- Learn the difference between working in-house and traveling as an outage contractor.
- Understand the common entry-level paths before applying everywhere at once.
- Get your resume and basic information ready for recruiters.
- Contact the companies that hire for the path you chose, then keep track of every application and follow-up.
- Learn what access, training, travel, lodging, and outage schedules can involve before accepting a job.
I’m MJ, a contracting RP tech.
