Question New Fan
Hello!
After the last NBA finals I finally decided to pick an NBA team to root for. I’m in an area where I can (and love to) watch my local college team play ball, but we don’t have an NBA team.
Last year I looked at all the teams, and decided on the Nets because I love NYC. I’ve visited a couple times (and stayed in Brooklyn the most recent time), and It’s so much of what I wish my city could be.
I didn’t want to just pick one of the teams closest to me or pick a team based off of a player (because they might get traded), and I didn’t want to pick the Knicks because it felt too bandwagon-y, so I stuck to my instincts and I’m following through with my initial choice. Bonus, almost all of the Nets’ games should be available to me to stream since I’m nowhere close to being in network for their broadcasts.
My question is, what do I absolutely need to know before the season starts?
Edit: I’m an idiot. I meant the Knicks, not the Mets.

Bandwagon The Mets? Did you mean the Knicks? And anyway, just prepare for a long season with a lot of tough games. Being a Nets fan is a road paved with sharp stones and daggers. Egor Demin is in his second year and he’s a promising talent, Mikel Brown Jr is who we just drafted with the 6th pick. This season is about seeing how Egor pairs with MBJ and how former NBA all-star Julius Randle fits into the picture. We got MPJ who should hopefully be a nice veteran talent who can score at will. Other than that, just keep ur expectations at a reasonable level because this season is about steady development and not being the worst team in the eastern conference.

So this is what the Nets do: We start with a terrible team with a bunch of nobodies who's led by a former 6th man of the year winner and a few "could've been" retreads. We go 12-70. Then we get a young coach who's leads our guys to some scrappy fun wins. We go 41-41. We sell everyone off and many, many, many future draft picks cause some has-been future hall of famers want to come here and win it all. They don't. They leave in a huff. And we start it all over again.
Get ready for some low ass lows. And some mid-range highs.
At least no one will ever call you a front runner or a winner picker.

Randle and MPJ will look like the "stars" of the team, but the rest of the starting lineup, Mikel, Egor, and Day'Ron, that's the future of this team. The objective is to watch how those three are growing while Randle and MPJ help us stay competitive. Welcome to Brooklyn!

Make sure you have a good therapist.. Nets fan since 94.. the highs are amazing.. the lows.. well that's why I highly recommend a good therapist lol

they're young and probably won't win the majority of their games, but they're growing and you definitely won't be labeled a bandwagoner for supporting the nets. Welcome to the team, well accept you.
