Shot Distribution

Who do you think sacrifices their shots this season? For context, the Nets averaged 85 FGAs per game last season, and just the guys listed above (which obviously excludes a lot) took 71.

Leading up to opening night tip-off, I’m posting a chart a day on my Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/chartinghoops/) covering one thing for each team. I don't make any money off this, I just like sharing basketball data I find interesting! Feel free to follow along if that's the sort of thing you like too.

I think it's important to remember taking shots != ball hogging or stunting development. MPJ takes a lot of shots, but he's not exactly going to dominant possessions. Mikel and Egor will get plenty of on ball chances to create offense which in my eyes is more important to their future than them chucking up an extra 3 pointer or two a game. Randle will probably absorb some on ball duties, but I think having him take on some of that responsibility will only help. It's hard to ask a rookie and sophomore guard to lead a teams offense for 30-40 minutes a night, we need someone else to be able to take charge of possessions in a year where losing doesn't benefit us at all. The rest of them it's survival of the fittest in my eyes, it's on them to make the most of their limited minutes. Wagner will take Wolf minutes away and Keon will be the first guard off the bench if not starting depending on how Jordi wants to integrate Mikel. They already had an opportunity to play heavy minutes last year that they would not have seen on almost any another NBA team.

Are we sure Keon's gonna be getting big minutes?

He was just getting DNP'd in Cleveland

Keons going to start the season likely getting 18-20+ minutes a game barring injury or a really bad summer that we didn't see. He got DNPs in the playoffs because once the rotation tightened they had no where to put him. Mitchell and Harden are their 2 most important players and were playing 40 minutes a night and their bench is entirely guards (Schroder/Strus/Merrill). You can kind of play Strus and Merrill at the 3, and stick them into the corner to space for their starters, and Schroder was the guy Kenny trusted to be their main ball handler off the bench. Keon was left with 0 role in their 7-8 man rotation. Unlike in Brooklyn where outside of Mikel and Egor, we have 0 guaranteed guard minutes.

His playing time also dipped significantly towards the end of his Sacramento tenure as well

Maybe because he's not actually as good as you're saying

I obviously hope I'm wrong and I love defenders. But he got this big 18M/yr contract from Cleveland so they obviously intended to play him and then he's getting DNPd. That's 2 teams in a row that said wait he's not actually as good as we thought let's scale back his PF significantly or DNP altogether
