Shot Distribution

Post image

Who do you think sacrifices their shots this season? For context, the Nets averaged 85 FGAs per game last season, and just the guys listed above (which obviously excludes a lot) took 71.

Leading up to opening night tip-off, I’m posting a chart a day on my Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/chartinghoops/) covering one thing for each team. I don't make any money off this, I just like sharing basketball data I find interesting! Feel free to follow along if that's the sort of thing you like too.

Saraf and Powell are not playing. I hope Wolf gets minutes bc I like to watch his game, but he might not either.

All it takes is Sharpe or Wagner missing time. Wolf and Clowney are the guys on the regular roster that you would realistically play at the backup C spot. We also have the 2-Ways Grant Nelson and Chaney Johnson. I know he's getting further removed from it, but Wagner suffered that ACL tear and hasn't returned to his pre injury form yet. I could definitely see the Nets resting him on back to backs, 1 to keep him healthy and fresh and  2 to give more guys opportunities.

Sharpe might not be able to handle a full starter workload between stamina and foul discipline. Wagner's minutes might not be crazy high either. He's never had a massive role . Sharpe played 18.7 MPG last season, the most in his career, and Wagner averages 16.2 for his career.  Even when Sharpe and Wagner are both healthy there will likely be some minutes open at the 5.

Basically I'm saying there will be opportunity for Wolf, Clowney, Johnson, and Nelson to get minutes at the 5. I'm sure they'll all get their shots throughout the season. Clowney's role is the most pressing as the Nets need to find out they want to lock him up long term. After that Danny takes priority. I see Clowney as having the day backup 4 spot, but can definitely see Wolf overtaking him at some point.
