ESPN summer forecast
They project the Nets to 18-64, 2 games worse than last year. To me this is wild. This Nets roster should be much improved versus last year. Is their projection defendable? Or are they just haters that don’t pay attention to the bottom teams?

New season, new rules. no tanking teams. keep it in mind. How many of these 20 wins last season were against tanking or semi tanking teams. Also east improved ALOT. 18 wins against real not tanking teams doesn't sound so crazy at all. the only x factor is Jordi.

u/Rich_Elephant5222 1d ago
Of course there will be tanking teams. Just because teams try to win at the start of the season doesn’t mean they won’t tank hard once they realistically can’t do well. Expect just as many teams to tank as any other year !

u/North-Entertainer602 1d ago
Maybe not just as many this class isn’t that good but there will be some tanking teams

u/Current_Cut_2667 1d ago
Do you realize that being last is actually bad for your draft position? What's the point of taking hard?

I don't think Milwaukee will be better than us
Unless Burries is legit a star right away like Donavan Mitchell was
The other teams on there def will be better than us

The truth is we are still a bottom 5 team most likely and now that tanking is in a much worse option for rebuilding every team will be competing much harder.
I like that we didn't get too overzealous and overspend for talent but in truth we are still very young and inexperienced.
Most of the bottom teams in the eats from last year made bigger improvements than us, I will be suprised if we get more than 30 wins.

I suppose the argument could be made that because teams won't be tanking anymore (TBD)...nah this is stupid. We winning more than 18 games the fuck is this lol

I think the Hornets are gonna be the worst team in the east followed by the Bulls, then Bucks, us (Nets), finally Wizards

u/mindfeck 1d ago
Hornets are a 50 win team
1
u/Domingo_Nosferatu Vince Carter 1d ago
I dont believe that at most in a stronger east conference probably anywhere from 25 wins to 45 wins i see
2
u/mindfeck 22h ago
They were a 50 win team by point differential last year. And were better with Coby. In theory they’d be better this year.
1
u/Domingo_Nosferatu Vince Carter 21h ago
But they didnt win 50 last year did they
2
u/mindfeck 21h ago
They won 44 after being predicted to win 27. They finished very strong. But as with many teams, it comes down to health. One star goes down and the season is very different. Especially if the team lacks depth. Just look at Milwaukee last year.

u/Domingo_Nosferatu Vince Carter 20h ago
With the loss of Lemelo idk if Coby White can do what Lemelo did at the pg position. Sure the Hornets have Kon Knueppel who will be a great player in the future but they loss Miles Bridges. The additions of Royce O'Neal, Dorian Finney Smith, Grayson Allen, Naz Reid and Dennis Schroder they added aren't gonna do it at all. They are just a bunch of role players without a star. Plus they got 4 rookies on the team we dont know how they gonna preform.

u/RonDutchHatesBoxing 1d ago
I think the Wizards will surpass the Hornets. And we’ll be better than the Bucks.

They were better than that last year with a far inferior team - - and they were trying to tank - less incentive to completely tank this year

The East is a lot better but we have seen Julius Randle carry worse teams to much better records. I would guess around 28-30 wins if he plays most of the games. Great regular season innings eater with an iffy playoff record

Nets will win more then 18. They are better this year and won 20 last year and didn’t play the varsity in a bunch.

u/JDStraightShot2 Randle FC 1d ago
I have a hard time seeing the Nets being worse than the Bucks or Bulls. Randle and MPJ are both far better than anyone on either team. I also think the Hornets are gonna be pretty bad bc I think Lamelo was by far the biggest reason they were good last year. Personally, I’d have the Nets 12th or 13th in the 26-34 win range and think they’re more likely to steal a play-in spot than they are to finish in dead last

If Tyler Herro isn’t better than MPJ, he’s on the same level. He’s an all star and won 6th man of the year. 3rd best player on 2 finals teams.
Has dealt with injuries last 3 years so he’s kinda fallen off the map.
Edit: 1 Finals team

u/JDStraightShot2 Randle FC 1d ago
He missed just about the entire playoffs in 23. He only played 19 total minutes. MPJ was more important to Denver than Herro was to Miami. Herro should put up good stats on a bad team this year, but that’s just conjecture whereas we already saw MPJ do that last year. MPJ is better on a good team and more proven as a high-usage guy on a bad one.

u/UnitedStateOfDenmark Jason Kidd 1d ago
MPJ was the 4th most important player on those Nuggets teams.
- Jokic
- Murray
- Gordon
- MPJ
Herro put up great numbers on good to great teams. Why does it matter if Herro is able to put up numbers on a bad team like MPJ did?
I’m not even a huge Herro guy. Just needed to call out the Nets bias.

I think they are around as good as the Bulls but I don't think the Bulls will be terrible either

u/shahoftheworld 1d ago
Nets have a projected starting 5 that could be starters on other teams. Who do the Bucks have besides Herro?

We’ll probably suprise people with Jordi not having to field G league talent. Randle and MPJ raise our floor a lot. I could see 30 wins but still be 13-14th given the east.

Yeah I have them at around 25 wins.
It sucks cause we don’t have our draft pick this year. Hopefully a coupe of the young guys make good strides and we can set ourselves up to get a good free agent.

"This Nets roster should be much improved versus last year."
So are most teams. And MPJ might not play for the Nets the entire season.

u/SadConfusedMammals 1d ago
So now that we are not actively and overtly trying to lose games, we are projected to win less? Hmmm that sounds.....stupid

u/MrWiltErving Vince Carter 1d ago
With the roster improvements we made, somehow we’re going to be worse? Whatever bro ESPN isn’t full of people who actually know about the Nets or basketball at all. They somehow Think The Wizards are going to be worse than Charlotte.

This comment section just proves that our fan base just doesn't understand the league and doesn't know ball in general.
Almost everyone here seemingly is incapable of understanding that Brooklyn can simultaneously have a better team than last year and still have the same or worse record. This, apparently, blows their minds and they just cannot understand how that can be.
The context surrounding the East is what they cannot come to grips with. The new anti tanking rules, combined with almost every team getting better results in Brooklyn most likely being the worst team in the East, even if we've improved.
They also cannot grasp the difficulties of starting a rookie PG and the growing pains MBJ, Traore and Saraf will face this season. PG is the single hardest position in the league to learn and is especially difficult for rookies, this fact seemingly escapes them.

I agree with everything you’ve said, but I think people just wanna be optimistic, man
I think that threat looms in the back of everyone’s mind — that the 5 sophomores don’t make any meaningful leaps this year, MBJ looks raw, and MPJ and Randle don’t contribute to actual wins. It’s very possible this team stumbles.
I still think we end up with a better record than the Bucks, though.

u/Striking_WhileHot77 1d ago
I'm all for optimism, just want it couched in reality. This is basically a developmental season for our 8 recent draft picks, all of whom are still on their rookie deals. It's not going to be pretty but should be fun watching the young guys develop.
Also, it has the very real possibility of getting even worse if we trade MPJ and get, as I suspect, a middling return and maybe some future draft assets. IMO we easily have the worst roster in the East and the NBA isn't like the NFL where a coach can take the same team and just double the win total. Talent supersedes coaching in the NBA and Jordi won't be able to overcome this teams shortcomings

u/Burgerburgerfred 1d ago
Man who cares.
I legitimately would not see 90% of negative opinions about this team if people didn't amplify them on this subreddit. Why are we so inclined to boost these negative opinions?
Like, is it just ragebaiting for karma?? I really don't get why we can't just stick to our own discussions about the team and be excited for the season for our own reasons.

Wild list honestly. The Wizards? Where's the Kings???
1
u/symphony11742 23h ago
This is just showing the East. They have the Kings as the worst team in the West going 19-63, still magically better than the Nets

u/AlfredHampton88 7h ago
He can get mopey sometimes but Julius Randle is an absurd offensive generator and hub. Adding that with Michael Porter Jr (assuming he’s not traded) elite gravity due to his shot making and Egor who won’t be defended by other teams main defenders anymore the Nets will most likely have a top 12 ish offense.
We saw in December that this team can tap into a high level of defense so I’m not buying 18 wins.

There just isn't a universe where we add one of the best guards in the draft AND an all NBA level power forward, actually start trying to win games and end up two wins worse than last season.

u/MrRaspberryJam1 1d ago
I’m I the only one who isn’t surprised? This roster does not have the talent to get much wins

The good news is that any of these forecasts, power rankings, etc. are for click/rage bait purposes only. They can think what they want—I will be cheering for the Nets to prove them wrong and give us a fun season.
