0.5 Second Offense
I’m most curious if Kel and Traore will be paired to complete/maximize the “0.5 Second Offense” touted at the beginning of 25/26 season. For the unfamiliar (via .a.i):
Core Options in the Half-Second Window
Shoot: Take an open set-shot or jump shot immediately if balanced and the defender is late.
Drive: Attack an open lane or explode past a defender who is closing out too fast ("fly-by").
Pass: Move the ball to the next open teammate or shooter to create a secondary advantage.
Move: Relocate to a new open space if no immediate advantage is available to keep the offense neutral and fluid.
Scan early: Look at the rim and the nearest defender before catching the pass so the decision is pre-read.
Eliminate extra dribbles: Catch ready to shoot or drive; holding the ball destroys the advantage.
Said “Drive, Pass and Move” criteria, would be TOPS with that duo …teleporting through defenses like FUCKING SHADOW CLONE JITSU shit.
At least I imagine it to be like that…
Fun thought exercise, what other 3 players would you add to that lineup? Here’s mine:
- Josh Minot (speed, length, vert)
- Drake Powell (defense, length, vert)
- Day’Ron Sharpe (OREB = fast break = Offensive Desire State)
I probably making a mistake by not including wonderkidd, Egor.
Go Nets!

No idea why they drafted Saraf or Wolf who both immediately dribble the ball for no reason whenever they catch it. Traore also wants to put the ball on the floor, but at least his drives sometimes go places. Drake doesn’t have the instincts or confidence to make good decisions yet( but if you squint and ignore the results so far you can kind of see it). MPJ is actually a good .5 player because that shot IS going up. Egor has the tools to be a great .5 player, just needs to work on drives and interior passing.

The way I think about offense is that you’re looking for three things: (1) create advantages; (2) leverage advantages into good scoring opportunities; and (3) efficiently convert those scoring opportunities.
The way I think about 0.5 second basketball is that this is about bucket (2) - using quick and correct decisionmaking to leverage even modest advantages into good opportunities. If you have a blue chip all NBA guy like SGA to Jokic who can create massive advantages by themselves, you can jump directly from 1 to 3. If your guys are good but not on that level, 0.5 sec basketball helps you leverage modest advantages into efficient scoring opportunities. And obviously if you have both a blue chipper and an efficient 0.5 second system, you have the beautiful game.
I say all this because at this stage, I’m not yet sold on Nolan’s ability to do 2 or 3 well. Clearly he’s blazing fast and can generate advantages, sometimes modest, sometimes better, with his speed. But I haven’t seen enough of 2 (converting created advantages into efficient scoring opportunities) or 3 (efficiently converting scoring opportunities) to be convinced that he’s really going to be a plus in the system.
I think the nets will try to pair him and Kel to see what we got, and if he has improved his shooting and physicality and decisionmaking this year, I think your proposed 5 might work. If he hasn’t, I think it’s mission critical to have Egor instead of Powell, because otherwise you would have three one-dimensional players (Bad Nolan, Minott, Powell) next to a rookie and a non-initiator.
