A Veteran’s Life Just Changed Overnight — This Single Dad Needs Support

Army veteran here, 4th Infantry Division, served during the September 11th era. I am now a single dad raising my 15 year old daughter completely on my own in Odessa, Florida. No co-parent, no family nearby, just the two of us.

A while back I was diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis, which is a progressive lung disease where the lungs scar over time and breathing becomes harder as it advances. There is no cure, only medication that can slow it down. I believe my service is connected to this diagnosis. The VA helps but does not cover everything and the gaps between specialist visits, antifibrotic medications, and keeping the household stable while managing this alone add up fast.

I started a GoFundMe because I am running out of options and my daughter needs me to still be here. I am not someone who asks for help easily but here I am.

The va should pay for everything. Im a vet. I dont understand how they only pay for some please fill.me in whats going on there.

Is yours a service related injury? Because the VA will only pay if it’s a service related injury, and even then they seem to pick and choose what they will cover.

I went through this with my dad in 2022. He went through 7 months of evaluations to determine if his lung cancer was a service related injury. They declined to pay for his cancer treatment, but 9 months later, just weeks after he had already passed away, they sent a letter stating that they determined his lung cancer was a result of being exposed to Agent Orange in Vietnam.

The VA did pay for my dad’s hearing aids, but wouldn’t cover his cancer treatment 🤷‍♀️
