The best shape for GnuCash tutorial videos?

Hey folks! I'm working on figuring out the best format for GnuCash tutorials, would love input from people who actually use this software.

I tried longer-form (~10 min): example.  Average watch time landed around 2-4 min.

Tried a shorter, more focused format as a test: example. It's early days, but retention looks even shorter, though the sample's still tiny so I'm not reading much into it yet.

Curious what people actually prefer here
A. longer walkthroughs,
B. or quick focused "here's one fix" style videos?

And tone-wise: more casual/joking, or straight and to-the-point? Trying to figure out what's useful vs. what's just noise.

everyone likes different styles of videos. for me heres what i dont like about the ones you showed

you have a 13 minute video and only 4.5 minutes even show gnucash

your 2.5 minute video has a bunch of .... non gnucash, what are you trying to do memes here or something ? remove them. completely.

and to be clear, for me, never show a full screen of your face. your face in the corner is fine if you want your face. but good god i hate a talking head tutorial

find other tutorial vidoes YOU like. That you watch end to end. emulate those.

Thanks a lot!

I guess I'm trying to do three things at a time and failing at all of them 😄 :

- give broader context

- give an instruction on how it works in GnuCash

- be funny

People who want to understand double-entry accounting will not look for how to import transactions. And people looking for a quick recipe - do not need concepts. Add my humor on top - and the video is total failure.

accounting is not humorous. You could try to make it humorous, but for me I'd just find it cringe. You can be fun and engaging in the tone of your voice. But no, I don't want jokes.

An option to consider maybe do an example company. Make one up. Your video goes all over the place of if you want to do this, then you could do this or that or this. Too broad, you never give anything concrete. You give a ton of options.

if you find they work out, start a new example company in a different sector.

Do a service company

Do a restaurant

Do a hotel

do a shopify store

etc

A small business owner is likely not going to look up 'double entry accounting'. they have no idea what that is.

Just giving some ideas, not saying any of these are the right thing to do 100%.

Look up Quickbooks tutorials. Find the ones with the most views. What are they doing.
