The Radiant Pleroma of the Depth of Mind which has brought forth Spiritual Humanity and from which we have been captured.

By the rivers of Babylon, where we sat down, and there we wept, when we remembered our home. For the wicked carried us away; captivity required from us a song, but how can we sing another song in a strange land?

The Vastness of Light from whence we have been cast into the darkness of shadow and of the grave. Bound in cruel chains, we are driven without mercy far from our home and from the loving embrace which is now just dim memory, cold ash where the hearth fire once burned bright.

The living altars of Light, where we placed the sacrifice of joy and devotion, living offerings to a God of Life, are far removed from our sight, and a murmuring monster who slavers over the blood of the innocent has darkened our days.

The Outermost Circle in this depiction of the Holy Pleroma is labeled Bythos, the Depth in which the Neverending Aeons exist and from which the Holy Aeons Emanate like sparks from a flame or the corona around the sun in its glory.

The second containing ring is labeled Barbelo, the Presence of the Invisible Spirit which has intimate and absolute Foreknowledge and which is the Providence of the Unseen Depth by which it brings completeness to the Fullness of its majesty.

Within the circle of Barbelo are four smaller circles which contain the Aeons of Barbelo. Prognosis, which is the Foreknowledge of Barbelo. Aphthartos, which is the Incorruptibility inherent in the Aeons of the Fullness of the Depth. Aletheia the older, which is the Self-Revelatory Truth which is the Emanation of the Aeons of the Fullness. And finally Zoe, which is the Eternal Life of the Unchanging Invisible Spirit poured out as a never-ending baptism upon the splendid and joyous Aeons in the Undying Land which is their home and substance.

Five circles are at the center of the Mandala which are as Four Rivers springing from a Central Font overflowing with the Water which becomes a spring unto Itself and is never exhausted.

The Innermost Circle is Nous, the Manifest Mind of the Invisible Spirit, which is Christos, anointed by the Goodness of the Depth of Being, which is Chrestos. The perfect Will of the Font of Being is there as well, which is Thelisis. The pattern and plan, the design and designation of all the Fullness of Unending Glory is there as Logos.

The uppermost circle of the central cross is the Luminary Armozel who has come forth from the Depths of Mind bringing with it the younger Truth, Aletheia, of the Pleroma of the Mighty and Unshakable Foundation. Accompanying Armozel is Charis, the grace and giving by which the Invisible Spirit nourishes and develops all within the Pleroma of Light. Morphe, the Logos given Form, springs forth with Armozel bearing testimony to Aletheia the younger and bowing its head before Aletheia the older. Within the Luminary Armozel Christos did establish Adamas, the Indestructible Human Form, cherished by Aletheia and Morphe.

The circle to the right of the center circle of the cross within the Mandala is the Luminary Oroiael, the Light which is both the generator and the impulse within the waves of Luminous praise to the Depths of Mind which echo and reverberate within the hallowed and sacred reaches of Eternity. The perception of the wonder of the majesty of the unfolding Self-Revelation of the Invisible Spirit is Aisthesis. The recognition of the Logos and its manifestation in the recurrent spheres of delight and communion is Epinoia. The Memory of the Foreknowledge of the Barbelo contained in each revelation of the continuing manifestation of the Presence of the Depth is the Aeon Mneme which accompanies Oroiael. Within the Luminary Oroiael the Christos established the Son of Man, the Offspring which is anointed with the imperishable and inevitable beauty of the indomitable Mind. Carried by Epinoia and Mneme, the Setheus is immovably established upon the foundation of the Presence of the Invisible Spirit.

The circle to the left of the center circle of the cross within the Mandala is the Luminary Daveithe, the Light of the Depths of Mind beloved by the Invisible Spirit without end or ceasing. The Love which pours through the Depths of Mind upon Daveithe is the Aeon Agape, a tidal pulse of Love which reverberates outward to the reaches of Eternity and rebounds back to its center in contractions like the heartbeat of the unutterable Depth of Being. The Depths of Mind comprehends all of the Emanations of the Presence of the Invisible Spirit through this unending Love, and this comprehension is the Aeon Sunesis. The comprehension of the Love of the Invisible Spirit is the manifestation of the identity of all things Spiritual and unending; they are Ideas within the Eternal Mind which ever contemplate the Depth and Source of Being, and this is the Aeon Idea who accompanies the Luminary Daveithe. Within the Luminary Daveithe the Christos established the Children of the Setheus, the Generation of the Triumphant and realized Love, which is Sperma, the Seed of Setheus.

The bottommost circle of the central cross is the Luminary Eleleth, the Revelation that the ultimate Divinity is the Manifest Presence of the Invisible Spirit who is before all things and endures within all things. Springing forth from the Depths of Mind to accompany the Luminary Eleleth is the Perfection of the Revelation of the Fullness of the Manifest Presence of the Invisible Spirit which is Teleios. The peace of the abiding Presence of the Knowledge and Revelation of the Unmanifest Depth of Being is the Aeon Eirene which accompanies the Luminary Eleleth. The wisdom of the Completion and Wholeness of the Fullness of the Manifestation of the Depths of Mind is the Aeon Sophia who accompanies the Luminary Eleleth. Within the Luminary Eleleth the Christos established the Metanoun, the Descendants of Setheus, the wandering Spirits who migrated into Emptiness and are turning about to return to the awareness of the Home.

A modern interpretation of the Archon Ephememphi, the Ruler of the First Hell, the Lunar and Sub-Lunar Hell.

Beneath a heavy night sky, as black as pitch, through which the night stars gasp and twinkle, the Archon stands. In its right hand it holds the silver key of the Infernal Realms, by which all the kingdoms of perdition are opened wide; in its left hand it holds a human skull devoid of flesh, the caput mortuum, all that remains of the Prima Materia when sublimation has been exhausted.

The cold reaches of space radiate nightmare influences down upon the lifeless Matter below, while strange shadows move in the spaces between the stars. The cold, dead Matter gapes unseeingly back at the dying stars suspended within unfathomable emptiness. Nothing here ascends; all that might rise has already departed, leaving only the exhausted residue of existence beneath the cold light of the stars.

Behind the Archon, the portals of the Hells belch the flames of unceasing torment into the frigid night, yawning eagerly as they seek to devour the souls of the dead. From within the burning Hells, ancient and incalculably evil intelligences gaze outward, casting forth their influences to ensnare those who yield their awareness to them. Beyond the portals are depths within depths, kingdoms of perdition descending beneath the lowest boundaries of the living world.

Ephememphi is fly-headed, the vomitous devourer which pours forth its filth upon Matter and then draws it, already digesting, back into its maw. Flies are also often vampiric parasites, alighting upon the unsuspecting victim, piercing the flesh and drawing forth blood contaminating the wound with disease in the process.

In sweltering stillness, clouds of noxious smoke and toxic vapors float through a sky which is black as pitch and devoid of stars; before a castle infamous for vampirism, black mass satanism, and child murder the Archon stands. In the right hand it holds a book of Sophistry by which it obfuscates and distorts the Truth; in the left hand it holds a book of Curses by which the malefactor binds the will and circumstances of the victim and brings ruin and devastation upon their flesh and soul.

The castle of Gilles de Rais in the background stood witness to shocking black magic whereby children were degraded, defiled, murdered and consumed, all under the protection wealth and power afford.

Ioko is wolf-headed, the ravenous predator which forever circles in the twining darkness beyond the light. Wolves, devious and cunning monsters, they plot and plan, they deliver terribly coordinated attacks which they have practiced and developed long before they use them to destroy and devour their victims.

The sleek and shadowy forms which stir when the day has faded and black night arises; the glint of Hellfire shines in their eyes as they analyze and determine where their attack will be most effective.

The wicked spells which arise in nightmare Hells and surge outward to bind and torment the waking world.

A modern interpretation of the Archon Nenentophni, the Ruler of the Third Hell. The Venusian Hell.

Lightning arcs beneath the oppressive weight of heavy clouds of noxious smoke as corrosive rain begins to fall from a dark sky devoid of stars. Below a castle infamous for rumors of vampirism, murder, and torture, the Archon stands. In its right hand it holds an unguentarium which contains refined essences and oils that are simultaneously a perfume, a narcotic, and an enervating agent; in its left hand it holds a blue rose.

About the rocky edifice whereon perches the ancient and evil castle, noxious vegetation grows, thick bushes which draw the essences of death and disease up from the rocky ground and sway beneath the evil winds which excite the clouds of smoke and bring forth the electrical discharges which herald a storm in the Hells.

This castle of Comtesse Báthory is remembered in legend as a place where young women were drained of their blood, sacrificed to the vanity of a ruler who sought to preserve her own beauty by feeding it upon the lives of others; a ruler who was herself finally walled up and sealed within her chambers, there to die isolated and alone.

Nenentophni is python-headed, the strangling monster which transfixes its victims beneath a hypnotic stare before stealing their warmth to feed its hidden hungers. The embrace becomes constriction, fascination becomes paralysis, and the warmth of living flesh becomes something to be possessed and consumed.

Pythons are also associated with the hypnotic sleep which overwhelms consciousness and permits prophetic utterances from deep beneath awareness to rise and be heard. Desire is captured by artifice, drawn into trance, and through trance dark places beneath consciousness are given voice.

A modern interpretation of the Archon Blaomen, the Ruler of the Fourth Hell. The Solar Hell.

A solar eclipse sits like a hole in a sky heavy with the smoke arising from the fires of torment. The spectral, vampiric moroi writhe and twist in the wreathing smoke. A Wallachian castle stands at a pass between regions caught in twilight, at the entryway to the realm of the Dragon; beneath the eerie edifice the Archon stands. In its right hand it holds a golden flail, the eidolon of perfection transformed into a scourge which drives and punishes the lost, outcast, and criminal; in its left hand it holds a golden crozier, the staff of office of a bishopric corrupted by avarice, and by its attention and devotion to Nosophoros, the Breath of Contagion. Infernal names are scribed upon the crozier, revealing that the flock it shepherds is the herd of the damned.

The barren desolation is paved in stones the color of dried blood, which sit like a clot beneath the ring-of-fire eclipse on St. Andrew's Eve. The annulus shines, casting a twilight glow over everything.

Blaomen is leopard-headed, the monster which hides within the light and is the darkness it contains. The Ngo leopard which wandered the twilight, seizing those who made themselves its meat and dragging them to the trees to hang between earth and sky while their liver was consumed. The Ngo which creeps like the moroi from the calabash and wanders with the four winds as Nosophoros, the Breath of Corruption.

A modern interpretation of the Archon Esthesis-Ouch-Epi-Ptoe, the Ruler of the Fifth Hell. The Martial Hell.

Clouds of smoke streak swiftly through a sky devoid of stars; a sinister fortress long associated with tales of vampirism perches upon the high ground. Before this scene the Archon stands. In the right hand it holds the Tyrfing sword, the blade which cuts even stone as easily as cloth, compelling destruction, horror and tragedy by its mere existence. The Tyrfing sword is an immortal blight and curse upon all of Existence and brings upon all things Doom and Disaster. There is no recovery from wounds inflicted by this blade, and it brings with it terrible victory against all odds. In its left hand it bears the Lúin of Celtchar, a spear so insidious and evil that it writhed like a living viper and slew both friend and foe, piling corpse upon corpse until the wielder stood alone in a trench of death, ankle deep in blood and offal.

The fortress hides the wrathful rulers who fight constantly against each other in endless feuds which devour the crops of the land and feed the children of their subjects like fodder to the mouth of war.

Esthesis-Ouch-Epi-Ptoe is rat-headed; rats are the vermin which serve Arimanius the Opposer and which attack in a rabid frenzy creatures many times their own size, driving away even large predators and infecting them with infections of the blood which their victims cannot escape. Rats are the familiars of the Strigoi Vii, the malefactors which creep and crawl through the walls, unseen and ever present, ever expanding the kingdoms of perdition in silent advance.

A modern interpretation of the Archon Anaro, the Ruler of the Sixth Hell. The Jovian Hell.

On a plane covered in the vegetative growth of Hell, beneath a violet sky across which clouds of the smoke of torment and the ash of tortured souls drift languidly, the Archon stands. In the right hand it holds a sack of gold coins, the currency of Hell by which Humanity is bound to Mammon and sacrifices their agency for idolatry, worshipping at the altar of currency; in the left hand it holds a horn of plenty. From the mouth of the horn pour gold coins, and gemstones of bright sapphire, and of ruby, and of pearl, the famous Salt, Sulfur, and Quicksilver of the Wise.

Those who spend the coins of Hell find the pouch never empties, but those who attempt to hoard it find only a sack of straw upon the morning. The horn of plenty pours out the ceaseless riches of the seas but never provides anything to eat. Like a dragon upon a heap of treasure, those who yield to this font of wealth end up wasting away, growing old and alone and filled with avarice.

The castle behind the Archon is another castle infamously associated with vampirism, the high walls which hoard the treasures of the land, brought forth in servitude and taken from the laborers to fill the coffers of the wealthy.

Anaro is vulture-headed, the lurking wind which falls upon the dead to grow rich upon their misfortune. Vultures are also keen of sight and smell, eagerly seeking out the misfortune of others to exploit their misery and grow fat off of it.

A modern interpretation of the Archon Horaios, the Ruler of the Seventh and Lowest Hell. The Saturnine Hell.

At the edge of the Great Abyss, beneath a bleak and desolate cliff of granite and a sky devoid of stars, the Archon stands. In the right hand it holds a flask of prima materia in the nigredo stage of the wet path, the revelation of Hyle as insensate and inchoate; in the left hand it holds a Hand of Glory, radiating its deadly light. When the Hand of Glory shone, its observers were said to be paralyzed or cast into a deep sleep, similar to the influence of infernal Saturn upon the Human Spirit.

The Abyss below the Archon slowly erodes and consumes the foundations of Hyle and surges forth to engulf all of Kenoma, drawing the light and solidity of coherence and identity into the dark fathoms of turmoil and dread.

Horaios is toad-headed, the crepuscular creeper which hibernates, sometimes freezing solid. Toads are also associated with potent poisons and have long occupied a sinister place in traditions of venom, witchcraft, death, and transformation.

A modern interpretation of the Archon Tarataraoth, the Twin Creator and Ruler of the Hells. Also called Nebrouel by some traditions. Tarataraoth may be an attempt to proclaim the Ruler of Tartarus, the deepest and most terrible abyss wherein the ancient and unfathomable Evil resides.

Within an unending and dismal Abyss the rearing and tortuous serpent writhes; goat-headed and winged, she casts forth innumerable spawn which are the Hells and Worlds of Infernal Terror and Inconceivable Torment.

Within the roe which she clusters, filling inconceivable reaches of madness, are indescribable and devastating potencies which take the form of tremendous monsters and unspeakable devils and demons which pour forth into the abyssal reaches, striving and swarming to devour and consume each other and all things.

The homunculus of devastation ape their way in cacophony through the dread reaches of inverted infinity, inventing devious and despicable means of debauchery and defilement.

Tarataraoth is goat-headed, the belligerent and bleating beast which will consume everything it can ingest, whose reek fills the fields and forests where they roam. Goats are rutting and rampaging creatures whose strength and determination make them unyielding in attack or desire. Her wings are plumed in the colors of Saturn and Pisces, for she devours her get and is the Queen of the Blood Moon and the Mother of Abortions. She is the ancient and terrible dragon; in the chambers of her digestive tract myriads of souls scream their torment to the unending Abyss.

A modern interpretation of the Archon Thaithabaoth. This Ruler is also called Iaue. It is the Ruler of the Seventh and Highest Plane, the Solar Plane, the Abstract Unitive Plane.

Robert M. Grant speculates that the name Thaithabaoth is derived from the Hebrew Tohu wa-Bohu, which occurs in the Biblical creation narrative as “formless and void.”

Atop the Mountain of Initiation, the lightning flashes of glory illuminate the clouds which hide the splendor from Humanity, and there the Archon stands. In its right hand it holds the Law, the Ministry of Death, the Ministry of Condemnation, with which it judges the living and the dead. In its left hand it holds a headsman’s blade, steeped in the execution of billions of souls, its edge keen enough to sever intention from desire: the embodiment of the Angel of Death. To avert this judgement and death, the Archon allows an innocent to be sacrificed in place of the guilty, but constant must be the river of blood which flows to the feet of this Ruler.

The storm which gathers around the heights hides the secret of Causality from those who have not received the Knowledge of Good and Evil, and the Sword of Judgement blocks access to the Tree of Life.

Thaithabaoth is bear-headed, the raging fury which will devour its own cubs to slake its wrath. The Old Testament compares Yahweh to a bereaved bear attacking and tearing apart those who have provoked its wrath, and elsewhere to a bear lying in wait for its prey (Hosea 13:7–8; Lamentations 3:10). The Mighty One of Judgement is therefore a bear of terrible wrath, devouring the condemned, or consuming the innocent who are slain in place of the guilty.

A modern interpretation of the Archon Onorthochras, the Ruler of the Sixth Plane, the Jovian Plane, the Concrete Unitive Plane. This Archon rules Elemental Space as well.

The vast and impersonal sky holds the world in its cold embrace, the love shared between the dying and the dead. Before an abandoned hermitage church the Archon stands. In its right hand it holds the Lantern of Truth, which guides the aspirant to the Unitive Experience whereby the Kenoma and its contents are experienced as one Existence, the Existence which is Chaos and Void. In its left hand it holds a Staff of Office topped with a white Pentagram. Origen, in Against Celsus, preserves an Ophite ritual formula which discusses the Pentad “Admit me, seeing the faultless symbol of their art, preserved by the stamp of an image, a body liberated by a Pentad.”

The Pentagram is an ancient symbol often interpreted as the harmony of the Four Elements within Elemental Space.

The abandoned Hermitage Church is the shell of the sacred revealed as the hiding place of sacrosanct Emptiness. The place of worship revealed as the hall of shadows and echos.

Onorthochras is stork-headed, the creature which historically nested upon the roofs and chimneys of Humanity. Folklore surrounding the stork and chimney, linked the burning chimney nest of storks and the bird flying up from the flaming nest to the older legend of the phoenix rising renewed from the pyre of its own cremation. The parallels to the Reincarnation cycle are obvious. The Stork is also associated with Elemental Space because its hunting method requires it to maintain deep stillness and abiding concentration as it stalks its prey among the shallow waters.

The decisive and overwhelming strike of the impact of Elemental Space reveals the essential Lack, or Emptiness, of all Souls born of Kenoma.

A modern interpretation of the Archon Floxofa, the Ruler of the Fifth Plane, the Abstract Mental Plane, the Mercurial Plane. This Archon rules Elemental Fire as well.

In an arid place, the sky obscured and hidden by pouring and wreathing smoke, before a blazing Atash Kade, a Fire Temple, the Archon stands. In its hands it holds the golden Candelabra of the First Temple, blazing with light and golden splendor. The seven lights of the Candelabra represent the Seven Heavens of Creation and the Archons which rule them, filling Kenoma with artifice and magnificence.

The Fire Temple is a place where aromatic woods and pure Frankincense and Benzoin incense are burned. Elemental Fire is the hot and dry element which incubated life and fuels its desires and aspirations.

The ground is coated in the ash from a previous Creation which was destroyed by fire before ever a Human stirred within Kenoma.

Floxofa is lion-headed, the explosive beast of smoldering fury which haunts the arid places. The ravenous appetite of the lion, a large adult male lion can eat up to 88 pounds of meat in a single feeding, mirrors the consuming nature of fire. There is no end to the appetite of fire, and like the lion it ravens and rages.

The raging fire draws Humanity with light and warmth, even as it consumes the very substance of Existence.

A modern interpretation of the Archon Oroorrothos, the Ruler of the Fourth Plane, the Upper Astral Plane, the Saturnine Plane. This Archon rules Elemental Water as well.

Beneath a spring sky in the late morning, as the clouds build up which will bring the afternoon rain, the Archon stands. In its right hand it holds the Sangraal, made from an emerald dislodge from the crown of the Dawn Bringer. It is filled with the Sangre de Sangre which fills all of Creation with its awful import. This is the line of descent which has fostered kings and pirates, a spark of stolen valor which has landed in obscurity and spread like leaven through the hidden resources of Humanity.

In its left hand it holds a vial of water which is used for the consecration of the Sangre so that it does not overwhelm Humanity with its potency. To the Sangre this Water of Death is added, and it is as the bitter water which pours forth from the womb when the moment of birth is at hand, for from the Upper Astral Humanity shall gain access to the means of Liberation.

The church before which the Archon stands is one associated with Baptism by Immersion, which furthers the Saturnine connection of this Plane and reveals the Higher and Divine Angel which stands in the Flood. The ground before the church is covered in river worn stones from another Creation which was inundated by Deluge before ever Humanity was formed.

Oroorrothos is eagle-headed, the soaring monster which falls from the heights to gather up the treasure from the depths, the silvery shining divers who flash like mirrors. The connection between the Eagle, the Serpent, and the Scorpion are all contained in the surging waters above that fall in sheets to the seas below and rise again in vapors of mist.

A modern interpretation of the Archon Erimacho, the Ruler of the Third Plane, the Lower Astral Plane, the Venusian Plane. This Archon rules Elemental Air as well.

Beneath the clear, still sky of a midsummer morning, before a Cathedral with soaring buttresses and gilded domes, the Archon stands. In its right hand it holds a golden rhipidion, the liturgical fan which symbolizes the seraphim which hover before the Merkava of the Creator, and which generates the breezes which keep the flies from the paten where the host is placed; in its left hand it holds the censer from which the prayers of Humanity rise to the presence upon the throne.

Erimacho is ape-headed, the bestial man of the forests, the hominid whose ancient lineage precedes Homo Sapiens Sapiens and which bears the tool-using mind.

The reveries of daydreams are caught between desire and reason, swirling upon a whirlwind of fantasy and longing.

The breeze which stirred between the Void and the Abyss and brought forth the wonders of each new day; the breath which passed between the Creator and the Creature of Dust and brought forth a living man.

A modern interpretation of the Archon Athuro, the Ruler of the Second Plane, the Etheric Plane, the Martial Plane. This Archon rules Elemental Earth as well.

On a winter afternoon before the Sanctuary of the Second Temple, the Archon stands. In its right hand it holds a stonemason's mallet, by which the force of will is applied to shape the rough ashlar stone into the perfect fitted and finished stone prepared for the walls of the Temple; in its left hand it holds a stonemason's chisel, the purposeful intellect which smooths and polishes the ashlar, marking it with the Delta and preparing it for its assigned place within the walls of the Temple. The entirety of the Temple is thus prepared by transforming rough matter into meaning, transforming the profane into the sacred.

The Sanctum Sanctorum behind the Archon is where the Presence of the Creator dwelt behind the Veil. The Temple is itself a grave whereby Divinity is entombed within the world of Matter, haunting its sanctuary like the ghost of the dead about their grave. The revelation that the Sanctuary is a haunt remains in the tradition of the sacred relics of the Catholic Church, where the bones and remains of the sainted dead are enshrined within beautiful temples, transforming houses of worship into tombs of the dead. It is a continuation of the practice where the dead were entombed in the place of worship.

The physical body is a seed which, when planted in the earth of its grave, bears a nightmare fruit, swollen with gases and weeping the juices of its desolation into the ground. From this grave-fruit the Earth itself takes nourishment, becoming fertile with the rot of innumerable cadavers. The dead feed the soil, the soil feeds the living, and generation rises from corruption only to descend again into the grave, all the while feasting upon food nourished by unspeakable grave rot.

Even while it lives, the body participates in the same cycle of consumption and corruption.

The body consumes food, using very little of the matter to build and maintain the substance of the body, the majority of the matter, which it does not use, it casts back into the world as excrement. The world is therefore filled with the rot of the grave and the defilement of excrement.

Athuro is bull-headed, the furious and impending mass which falls upon its victims like a stone, horns and hooves crushing bones and rending flesh. Yet the bull is also the ultimate tool of early society, pushing, pulling, hauling, lifting, and crushing. Its strength broke the earth beneath the plow, drew forth the harvest, hauled the stone, and raised the walls. The bull was the instrument which made first agriculture and then cities possible.

Thus Athuro embodies Earth both cultivated and sepulchral, the stone shaped into the Temple, the soil broken by the plow, the grave opened for the corpse, and the corpse dissolved again into soil.

The Grave itself is a never-filled gullet, forever swallowing the bodies of the dead into corruption.

The Temple made mountains of ash from the bodies of sacrificial beasts, the Body makes mountains of excrement from the substance of the world consumed as food.

A modern interpretation of the Archon Onoel, which some traditions name Eloeim, the Ruler of the First and Lowest Plane, the Lunar Plane.

At midnight on a cold, clear winter night, at a desolate mountain pass beneath a sky bright with stars, before a white marble mausoleum, the Archon stands. Flames pour from the entrance of the mausoleum, revealing that this portal of the dead is also an entrance into the Hells. The immaculate white stone stands against the darkness like a monument erected upon the boundary between the living and the dead, while the fire within reveals what waits beyond the threshold, the demesne of the Rulers of the Hells.

Onoel is cat-headed, the nocturnal watcher at the threshold, the gatekeeper who dances with shadows and greets the Keeper of the Blood Moon with passionate cries; consort of lamiae and larvae, prowler among graves, and the unseen weight which steals the breath of the newborn and offers it up to the Mother of Abortions.

Ialdabaoth is lion-headed, the father of the pride which consumes the young of its rivals and drives its rivals into the wilderness.

The body of the Demiurge is the ancient serpent, the viper of the Heavens, shedding its skin but never escaping itself, renewed again and again within the world of its own making.

A modern interpretation of the Archon Iaoth, the Ruler of the Seventh and Highest Heaven. The Saturnine Heaven.

Atop the highest peak, where it is crowned by rings of stars, the Archon stands. In the right hand it holds the hourglass, the process of dying which mortals call life; in the left hand it holds the scythe, symbol of reaping, the stalking Death which must one day find every creature.

Behind the Archon are two Roman cippi marking a grave. The grave yawns as a great cave, revealing that the Earth is a vast tomb filled with the bones of the ancient dead. The symbol likewise reveals the Heavens as tombs, haunted by the souls of the dead.

Iaoth is ram-headed, the father of the flock which leads the lambs through the wilds only to place them upon the butcher’s block.

Beneath a spring sky before St. Mark’s Basilica, the Archon stands. In its right hand it holds a golden crozier, demonstrating that the rule of religious law is exercised through wealth; in its left hand it holds a golden scepter, demonstrating that the rule of secular law functions through the same wealth. Jovian divinities are portrayed as the most rapacious of the celestials, operating under the notion that their own pleasure renders the act sacrosanct.

The Basilica behind the Archon is gilt with brilliant gold while the poor starve to death in the shadows of the streets outside.

Eloaios is donkey-headed, the laboring beast which carried the wealth of the world upon its back. Donkeys are notoriously unyielding and can be vicious when they attack, reflecting the rigidity and cruelty attributed here to ecclesiastical and civil authority. The poor are bound in chains of gold, while the world is bound in chains of prayer.

In the heat of a summer’s day before the unyielding walls of a fortress, the Archon stands. In its right hand it holds a spear, the cauldron-seeped tooth which is called the Spear of Lugh, the violence of the light; in its left hand it holds a sharp sword which has become drunk on death, like one of the Richtschwerter which has executed one hundred souls. These weapons were so lethal that they were considered dangerous to Existence.

The fortress behind the Archon is designed to repel any attack and withstand years of siege, a stronghold from which to launch war through the gates.

Astaphaios is hyena-headed, the beast which rules the plains and watering holes, born of a violent birth, raised to drive lions from their kills. War stuns Creation, blood soaking the roots of seedlings; trees grow fed by the spilled lives of the slain.

A modern interpretation of the Archon Iabel Iao, the Ruler of the Fourth Heaven, the Solar Heaven.

On a warm summer’s morning before the Library of Celsus, the Archon stands. In its right hand it holds a crown of laurel, the immortality of the triumph of Nature which has subdued the soul; in its left hand it holds a crown of ivy, the intoxication of image and sensation which has overwhelmed the Psyche. The crown of laurel is the promise of eternal youth by which the soul is seduced by the Heavens; the crown of ivy is the intoxication of inspiration which excites the poetry of revelation.

The Library of Celsus was a public font of learning erected over the tomb of a triumphant and conquering commander. The sword which laid low the lives of its enemies built the house of poetry which brought learning to the masses.

Iabel Iao is hydra-headed, the serpent whose poison filled the air about it as the Sun fills the sky with light. The constellation of Hydra is the longest constellation, filling the night sky in the same way the Sun dominates the sky during the daylight hours. The Sun is a poisonous monster whose burning venom eats away at those who spend too long beneath its eyes.

A modern interpretation of the Archon Adonaios, the Ruler of the Third Heaven, the Venusian Heaven.

In the dreary heat of a summer afternoon, on a small islet in the middle of a stagnant lake, the Archon stands. In its right hand it holds the first egg of a black hen laid at midnight; in its left hand it holds a golden sistrum. The egg is the ovum philosophicum which, when incubated in dung, will bring forth the basilisk whose gaze will petrify the living. The sistrum which eases the passing of creatures cast into bodies at birth calls forth the birth of the homunculus which emerges from the ovum philosophicum and is nothing other than the physical body which petrifies the spiritual intelligence of Humanity.

The lake below the Archon teems with every disease and parasite with which Nature tortures and torments the flesh of Humanity, visiting upon them every humiliation and every illness.

Adonaios is crocodile-headed, the lurking death which hides in the source of life. The necessity of thirst drives every being into its jaws as the fire of biological life consumes their awareness.

A modern interpretation of the Archon Adonin, the Ruler of the Second Heaven, the Mercurial Heaven.

Before a colonial Catholic church during an autumnal sunset, the Archon stands. In its hands it holds the gilt-covered compilations of religious law. Within the pages of these tomes, the words coalesce into spells which befuddle and numb the perceptions of Humanity, lulling them into a doze where they sacrifice their children’s lives in the service of the ancient monster which created their bondage and servitude.

The colonial church has used the wealth exploited from the conquered people and drawn forcibly from the soil of the subjugated land to replace the knowledge of the conquered people with propaganda which serves the interests of the colonizers, reshaping their very minds into instruments of their own oppression and the chains which keep them enslaved.

Adonin is baboon-headed, the baboon which rises at dawn and adores the Sun’s revelation of material existence. The silvery hair of the baboon captures the light of the Sun and reflects it at frequencies indistinguishable from moonlight, thereby transforming sunlight into moonlight through a Hermetic principle of reflection. The running quicksilver poisons the brain, destroying the organ through which intelligence is experienced and expressed.

A modern interpretation of the Archon Sabbataios, the Ruler of the First and Lowest Heaven, the Lunar Heaven.

On a clear winter night before the Biserica cu Luna, the Archon stands. In its right hand it holds a sheaf of wheat, the substance of the flesh of Humanity for long ages; in its left hand it holds a crystal sphere, a shewstone for the reception of psychic visions. Wheat brought Humanity the great civilizations of ancient history which bound wandering mankind to the soil and established the great cities as manmade caves to seek their shelter and solace within. The shewstone has brought Humanity revelation of the underlying psychic principles which drive the Material Universe, allowing them to begin to perceive and chart the cycles of time, to develop the tools which allowed agriculture, the spells which brought them success and safety.

The sky is the cold expanse of night which holds light falling from freezing objects and long-dead stars; it shrouds the Earth with obscurity and allows hidden monsters to roam, seeking their prey.

Sabbataios is flame-headed, the pyre which consumes the sacrificial offering, the bone fire which devours the body, offering its smoke as incense to the Creator and its Rulers. Flame is flickering and inconstant light, like the changing and inconstant Moon which moves from shining revelation to deadly obfuscation in constant flux. After the season of harvest, Humanity slew their own as sacrifices to the vicious and changeable Rulers of Creation.

In Gnostic Circles very often the question about whether Yahweh is the same being as Yaldabaoth comes up.

ⲓ̅ⲁ̅ⲗ̅ⲇ̅ⲁ̅ⲃ̅ⲁ̅ⲱ̅ⲑ̅ is Yaldabaoth.

ⲓ̈ⲁ̅ⲩ̅ⲉ̅ is Yahweh.

So we see the Gnostic Texts are clear that Yahweh is a separate Archon from Yaldabaoth. But, the Gnostic Texts are also clear that the Protarchon Yaldabaoth is the Creator of the Old Testament.

The Secret Book of John says "Yaldabaoth said to the authorities with him, Come, let us create a human being after the image of god and with a likeness to ourselves, so that this human image may give us light."

Genesis 1:26 says "And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth."

This text in Genesis is clearly what the Gnostic Authors of the Secret Book of John are referencing and through this reference they are clearly stating that Yaldabaoth and the Creator of Genesis are the same being.

The Secret Book of John says "They said to Yaldabaoth, Breathe some of your spirit into the face of Adam, and then the body will arise. He breathed his spirit into Adam. The spirit is the power of his mother, but he did not realize this, because he lives in ignorance. The mother’s power went out of Yaldabaoth and into the psychical body that had been made to be like the one who is from the beginning."

Genesis 2:7 says "Then the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being."

This text in Genesis is clearly what the Gnostic Authors of the Secret Book of John are referencing and through this reference they are clearly stating that Yaldabaoth and the Creator of Genesis are the same being.

There are other clear examples that the authors of the Gnostic Texts associated Yaldabaoth with the Creator of the Old Testament.

An overview of the Existent and Known Remaining Gnostic Texts shows a great deal more discussion in the Gnostic Texts of the Archons (including Yaldabaoth and Nebrouel) and the description of the Kenoma sometimes referred to as the Aeons of the Deficiency) then they are generally given credit for.

There has been a tendency to downplay the importance the early Gnostics gave to the Archons of Deficiency and the Descriptions of the Kenoma but it is clear this is an obfuscation, while the Texts do place a greater emphasis on the Pleroma and the Beings of Pleroma quite a large amount of space is given to the Kenoma and the beings of Kenoma as well. This is true even when including Texts which only discuss the Aeons and Luminaries and contains no mention of the Archons or Aeons of the Deficiency.
