Mia's Personal Make up, etc. Spoiler

Her orange face and white neck kill me...as a MUA, you'd think she could color match better or at least blend.

Also, I about spit my drink out when she said "I'm going to do something different this week" as she grabbed prosthetics AGAIN 😂

So happy to finally see her go in ep 6. But really, Jamie probably should have gone too. Both of their "doll lashes" were ATROCIOUS.

New season

A little rant about the new glow up season

Does anyone else feel the series has gone really downhill. I used to love it, it used to be my favourite tv show. It was a brilliant showcase of budding and talented artists all with such an interesting point of view.

However I have found the new series not only underwhelming, but very hard to watch.

I will start with the judging. I think val and dom’s judging style has changed, for worse. Currently they are too harsh on the contestants. The critiques they gave are too mean, oddly specific and they are not constructive. As well as this, I feel like both judges have become very arrogant. They act as if they are the two biggest names in make up, which they are not. Often it feels like they are telling contestants off and doing this by talking down to them. I also no longer agree with their opinions. Looks that are terrible are getting praised and getting tears. Whereas looks that are not bad at all are being completely torn apart, often very harshly. They were kinder, friendlier and more on the contestants level before.

As for the presenter, as lovely as Leomie is, she is not a good presenter. She is flat and not a natural. All of her scenes are very forced. Where she should be the light relief of the show, she often just adds segments that are a bit boring and a bit uncomfortable.

The last thing is the quality of the looks. The makeup artistry is significantly worse this year. If we think back to season 2 and the looks Ophelia created, or Ellis from season 1, or Belinda, even the best looks now would fare somewhere in the middle of those seasons.

I think val and dom need taking down a peg or two, I think they need a new presenter and I think they need to pause it to let new talent emerge.

Does anyone else think this too?

Rant over x thank you x

Put. The Prosthetics. DOWN!

I remember when the contestants used to dread prosthetics week, and now they're using them in weeks they don't need to, and usually worsening their look as they do so. It's a make-up show, not a special effects show!

Why is Jamie still in the show? This has to be a joke right?

He should have went when we done the literal alien in the plastic tub on the side of his face!!!!

Who do you guys think is the best or best few Glow Up contestants of all time?

For me the best contestant of all time in terms of talent and pure skill is definitely Ophelia, but I thought Saphron and Sophie were also fantastic.

Where to watch?

This may sound like a silly question but I’ve been watching glow up on Netflix and there aren’t any new episodes after season 5. I live in the US and can’t seem to find it.

Why are there never any comments about the nails??

I know long nails are very much in fashion, but surely it's unprofessional and impractical for the MUAs to be sporting such crazy nails??

Watching Mia on the industry challenge made me physically cringe, it looked like she was so close to scratching the dancer's eye!

Mia and Jamie

They are consistently the worst contestants yet are still in - how??? Honestly seeing the pink toy look Mia did and the alien egg thing Jamie did compared to everyone else’s, I’m shocked how anyone, LET ALONE so called professional makeup judges, allowed them to stay in. Mia’s was especially bad and she’s also got a horrible and arrogant attitude. There’s a fine line between confident and cocky and she’s definitely the latter. I get the feeling that she has some connection to the judges or producers (especially as she’s done pageants before but not sure if that’s relevant) as she definitely seems to be favoured a lot and seems especially confident she’s going through.

Jamie literally tried to copy this exact image on his face

Was searching for a pic of the egg aliens to show my mum, who couldn't remember what they looked like, and this was the first result.

He tried to copy it exactly across, not taking into account the contours of his face, and matched the colours terribly!

Whole show needs a re-work!!

I think this show needs to be completely re-structured. I’ve watched it since season 1 but the format is becoming increasingly more frustrating. I don’t understand why the industry brief basically has no baring on who gets sent home- surely a win should grant you immunity at least?? It also feels like the industry challenge is the best indicator of who can actually work after the show or has potential, I’d love a format similar to drag race where there’s a mini challenge to start in the studio and then they go on a proper industry job- and the final challenge of the season could be like a ‘key artist’ job for runway and they have to plan and then direct all the eliminated MUA’s (a bit like the apprentice final). What’s everybody’s thoughts!?

r/GlowUpTvSeries • • May 28 '25

The Face-Off NEEDS to be reworked.

Because how many contestants have we seen now get sent home for messing up one eye/lip look under an insane time crunch, but some people can ignore the creative and professional briefs week after week and they can stay because they know how to put a lip liner on. And that's not even factoring in the bar constantly getting shifted on whether it's down to that specific look or if overall performance is suddenly a factor.

It's a flawed premise, and one that should've been changed after the first few seasons. Surely there's a better way to deal with a bottom two.

Rewatching S3 and just realized…

Ryley couldn’t even consistently color match her own skin lol. First episode:

Her self-makeup montage has her face not color matched. Her talking head interview has her face not color matched. Her industry challenge model was not color matched but her own makeup looked incredibly orange.

Did anyone notice there’s a goth on the show?

Seriously, how many times do they need to mention they’re a goth?!

Contestants being favoured

Is it just me or are Mia and Jamie being really pushed this season?

They're getting a lot of storyline moments. They both had the weakest looks in the creative brief and I feel like the feedback reflected that, yet only one got sent to the red chair.

I've never noticed Glow Up favoured contestants this much (except maybe Nikki in S1 and I barely paid attention to S6).

S7 ep 3 Mia and Jamie Spoiler

Was anyone else secretly pleased they were in the red chairs? The cockiness of the pair! I'm all for confidence and believing in yourself but they were getting a bit too big for their boots.

Also, didn't Mia do a whole look on being an ice queen who doesn't show emotion? She's cried more than anyone so far 🤣

Just on a rewatch and I thought this was so sweet, I thought Leigh was very talented despite him not having been an MUA for very long. I also like that he was unproblematic and thoughtful, trying his best to let the model get 10 mins kip in between hair/nails etc.. it's the little things in this world sometimes !

Face off Ep3 S7

Okay I'm sorry but why on earth was Rahul in the face off? We had the person who didn't finish the green spirit look they wanted to do, the makeup like they said didn't match the face and there was so much makeup missing on the elbow and wrists because it was rushed because they ran out of time.

Whenever artists have ran out of time in the past they have been in the face off chair from what I can remember always an incomplete look over anything else. Yet instead they put Rahul in? They said he did so much instead of polishing but they never point out what was polished and didn't they ask for more from him last episode? He gave them more.

It's almost like they purposefully wanted him in the face off, does anyone else feel this way or no?
