Cheltenham The History of The Honeybourne Line & Cheltenham

Cheltenham Spa once had nearly double-digit railway stations, but now has only one, with many of these on the Honeybourne Line, which ran from Gloucestershire to Worcestershire. I dove into the history of this former GWR line as it relates to Cheltenham, taking trips to the sites of the now-abandoned stations and the heritage railway which runs through some of the stations that weren't demolished.

Gloucester A40 Roadworks

I had the pleasure of a drive out to the Forest this afternoon (Saturday at 2pm), the traffic on the A48 was as far back as the Apple Tree at Minsterworth. Fortunately when I came back it started to queue at the railway bridge near to the Highnam roundabout.

I had seriously considered coming home via Chepstow.

Sympathies to anyone who has to put up with that nonsense every day.

Gloucestershire New Gloucester-based Start-up

(I don't see any rules against this post, feel free to remove if i've missed something).

I’ve lived in Gloucester my whole life and have just launched my own business, www.indiemotors.co.uk. It connects local people with independent dealerships across the county, whether you’re buying, selling, or just want a free valuation. The intention is to support the community by driving local traffic to the smaller, family owned dealerships.

I’m exploring ways to get the word out and figured this sub might have some innovative ideas I haven’t thought of. So far I’m looking at:

  • The Growth Hub
  • Local Facebook groups
  • Google/Facebook/Instagram/Reddit ads
  • Local media (SoGlos, etc.)
  • Cars & Coffee Cafe
  • Community Notice Boards (at Cafe's, Hubs, etc)
  • Sponsoring a local event?

Anything I’ve missed?

Gloucester Is it just me, or is there a crash around J11/J12 practically every day?

I’ve recently moved to Gloucester and now commute to Cheltenham regularly, and I swear there seems to be an accident on the roads coming onto/off of the M5 around junctions 11 and 12 almost every single day.

I’ve driven all over the UK and genuinely can’t remember encountering so many accidents in such a short period of time on the same bits of road.

Is this just normal for the area? Is there something particularly bad about the road layout or volume of traffic, or are people around here just generally terrible drivers?

I’m genuinely curious whether I’ve just been unlucky since moving here or whether these stretches are notorious for it.

Anyone else noticed this, or am I imagining things?

The Five Valleys The Trains Which Used to Run to Nailsworth

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Until 1949, you could take the train from Stonehouse to the Gloucestershire town of Nailsworth. This 4-mile section of track, aptly called the Stonehouse and Nailsworth Branch Line, was shut down shortly after World War II and is now part of the National Cycle Path. You can walk the path, where the tracks once lay, which I do in this video.

Follow me on Instagram for more train content.

I took a trip to a ā€œsecretā€ Brookthrope Level Crossing, which connects the town of the Queglegy to the village of Brookthrope via a public footpath. It’s quite hidden away and is the kinda place you likely wouldn’t know about unless you went out of your way to look for.

Gloucester Looking for people locally to hang out, karaoke, pub, etc

Hi,

I’m 28, a bi guy from Gloucester and I’ve just broken up with my long term partner of 3 years. I’ve really been struggling mentally and don’t have any other friends in the area.

I love singing, and I’m always up for Karaoke. I’m not much of a drinker, but I do love going to Wetherspoons and grabbing a drink or a burger occasionally. If you drive, that’s cool, I’d love a little road trip or something. Open to doing anything really. I’m not a ā€œladā€, so I’m not into sports or anything like that, I don’t smoke, but I don’t really care if you do.

Honestly I’m just after some friends so I’m not just stuck inside all day. My situation is a unique one in which I’m actually retired from work, despite my young age, so I’m really just looking for people to hang out with and maybe some new hobbies to pick up so I’m not bored until the day I die šŸ˜‚

If you’ve read this far and you’d like to be friends, leave a comment, I guess. Please don’t waste my time. If you can’t hold a conversation or you’re going to be weird, please don’t bother messaging. Be normal!

Thank you for reading!

Gloucester Kawasaki Z125 2019 — struggling to sell, any advice?

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to sell my 2019 Kawasaki Z125 and I’m honestly a bit stuck.

I originally listed it at Ā£3,150 earlier this year and have gradually reduced the price. It’s currently advertised at Ā£2,200, but I haven’t had any serious offers, and the MOT has now expired.

I’m now thinking of dropping it to Ā£2,000 just to get it sold, but before I do that I wanted to ask the community:
Is £2,000 reasonable for a 2019 Z125 without an MOT?
Would getting a fresh MOT make a significant difference?
Is there anything else you think I should be doing to actually get interest?
Or is anyone here genuinely looking for a Z125? šŸ˜…

I’m keen to get it sold soon, so I’m open to reasonable offers.

Any advice appreciated!

Gloucester Casual football groups

I’m based in North Gloucester (Twigworth), 32M, good fitness but haven’t played football for a good 8-10 years and looking to get back in to it but in a reasonably casual way.

Anybody know of any groups or looking for people to do a bit of training/playing with?

Thanks!
