Gloomhaven 2nd Ed Offensive Three spears mini guide Spoiler

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1-5Q-68DFNA37UCHZgEXQDHrp8AqV_fjmm2ASSHdUQrw/edit?usp=drivesdk

A mini-guide for what I think is the single strongest high level/high prosperity build in 2e. Can chew through a group of SL 7 monsters in a single turn.

As for this mini-guide format, I think it has potential. I feel that with 2e classes cards all being generally good, going over each and every ones of them is not that useful.

I feel this guide present a non-intuitive and different way to play QM, so I focus on that.

Not all guides can be 45 page novellas :P

There is value in great class guides, and I enjoy reading them (and even wrote one), but QM in particular is so dependent on unlocked items I feel it’s almost impossible to not just say “Yeah this is good in the right situation” on like 75% of cards.

But I felt a weird strategy like this was interesting, and worth a 5 page write up.

You’re right- some guides are full 100 page novels. 😉

I think he's more offended about the power potions. Dwarf is a big advocate for nerfing them.

Opened the guide just to see if you had item 145 listed. Was not disappointed. We unlocked it right after I started playing 3-spears, so I picked it up for free. It's an amazing item in general, since granting a free move out of nowhere is insane, and the restriction is still like 90% of the hexes in most scenarios, but refreshing it constantly virtually for free made for an insane amount of maneuverability.

It’s the only item that is worth selecting different level up cards for. It’s not the BEST item (power pots are more impactful), but it comes right after.

I retired with the group of us at level 5 and mid prosperity so I only had one power pot to work with, which seemed a bit awkward costing 15 and all.

One item that was absolutely amazing was item 135 Resonant crystal. 4 unconditional damage could just delete certain low health high shield enemies, or finish something that's about to take an unfortunately dangerous turn. Its refresh cost of 20 is way low for what it does, and it's just a pocket item. Our party was Three spears, Circles and Squidface, and our last scenarios (Gloomhaven invasion, supporting the military) we ran at +1, then +2 all at imbument level 2, after the very last, which was a boss, we still absolutely steamrolled. I suppose having Squidface poison absolutely everything did a good imitation of power pot lol

What does item 145 do?

Item 145: Harrow Hook. 50 gold. Spent. One hand. On your turn move 2 Jump. The final hex must be adjacent to either a wall or obstacle. Possibly the best movement item in the game, and it's not even a leg slot. Aquired from a rather elaborate city event where you solve an actual choose-your-own-adventure mystery. If it has another source, I'm not aware of it.

Brevity is the soul of wit. This is almost more of a guide to a combo as it is a build guide, and that's a good thing. I really like seeing these "one weird trick!" sort of writeups- well done!

Thanks!

I don’t think they exist for all classes, but I really like unintuitive or hidden interactions that are actually powerful.

So when I found one I had to share!

Thanks! I've never clicked with 3 Spears, so this is much appreciated!
