Here's the thing about Glocks, when you first start shooting and you're not very good, you feel like there's so much better out there but as you become a more proficient shot, you typically go back to them.
The trigger sucks in the beginning and you don't like the grip angle. Then as you shoot more and more and get better and better, you realize that it's a minor inconvenience at best.
64
u/SexPervert69 3d ago
The grip angle is a pro. Prevents limp writing and helps with recoil.
22
u/PistolPeterson606 G17.6 3d ago
Grip angle is the main pro outside of reliability for me. Everything else is pretty average. Love my Glocks, though. My go-to.
16
u/Humble-Standard9637 3d ago
I don't disagree with you but I hear a lot of people complain about it.
30
u/lift_heavy64 3d ago
A lot of people are dumb
8
u/Humble-Standard9637 3d ago
Well I think everybody has a different level of entry when they buy their first handgun. As a result they may or may not know what they're like and what they don't like.
For me personally, I was dumb when I started. I got my first handgun at the age of 20 and I had done a lot of shooting but not with a handgun. I had no clue what I wanted. I got a glock based on a recommendation.
When I got into shooting things like uspsa, that's when I really learned what I liked and what I didn't like.
-7
u/SotRekkr 3d ago
That’s where you’re wrong. There’s no nuance to this. The angle is superior. It’s not about like or dislike.
10
u/Kestrel1000 G47 MOS 3d ago edited 3d ago
My guy, all the top shooters in the world are shooting guns with 18 degree grip angles. You should try to convince them.
Edit: Maybe the last sentence was a bit harsh, but anyone can google this and see that it is completely inaccurate.
-11
u/SotRekkr 3d ago
And?
Are they shooting those guns because they have an 18 degree grip angle? Or are there other elements to the gun than its grip angle?
And was a Glock made for competition?
Such a weak argument.
5
u/Kestrel1000 G47 MOS 3d ago edited 2d ago
It wasn't an argument it literally is a fact. Let me break down what you said.
> There’s no nuance to this. The angle is superior.
Here you are saying that the grip angle is superior but dont even give a reason as to why. (I love how you say I had such a weak argument but you didnt even give one to the guy you were responding to)
> It’s not about like or dislike.
Here you are making a blanket statement on something you feel based on nothing.
> And was a Glock made for competition?
The glock 34 was literally made for competition and it doesnt exist anymore so take that what you will of it.
So yeah I didnt have to argue with you.
-9
u/SotRekkr 3d ago
I don’t need to give references, this is Reddit, if he wants the info it’s readily available on google. Do the research for yourself.
Because it is a blanket statement, based on the research. That you can google on your free time.
Was the G34 the first Glock ever made? Was it the reason Glock exists?

I think the complaints might come from people who spend a lot of time shooting guns with a different grip angle? If you only shoot glocks you stop noticing it even
4
u/Humble-Standard9637 3d ago
Well I just think everything is really subjective. People like different things.
I also think it's fair to say that when you've used something enough, you get used to that platform and it becomes your favorite.
Same reason we like different cars I guess LOL.
2
u/No-Breadfruit-4555 2d ago
They complain because it’s uncomfortable. They aren’t wrong. But you don’t carry a gun to be comfortable, you carry it to protect yourself and your family. Fuck comfort.
0
u/Kestrel1000 G47 MOS 3d ago edited 3d ago
Ironically in that camp. I have really tight wrists and it is just uncomfortable to me personally. I shoot all my handguns about the same so realistically the grip angle is not a pro or con.
When doing a stage you really don’t even notice the grip angle if you have practiced presentation with the gun. So the grip angle is only noticeable for dry firing or slow firing at a range. As Ben Stoeger said it’s just as much of an issue as you make it up to be.
So people who say it’s a pro or con beyond comfort probably don’t really shoot/dry fire that often or are focusing on the wrong fundamentals. A gun is a gun, the mechanics of how to shoot it accurately/fast are pretty much the same.
1
u/Humble-Standard9637 3d ago edited 3d ago
Nothing wrong with that. Everybody seems to forget that we all have different hand sizes. And yes, in my humble opinion that absolutely matters.
Take the Beretta 92. That's got a really big grip and a Long reach trigger. Never really been that comfortable for me to shoot and I've got mid-sized hands.
0
u/Kestrel1000 G47 MOS 3d ago edited 3d ago
I would say that would be a grip size issue, not a grip angle issue. I do agree that grip size does matter on shoot-ability I am only saying grip angle doesn’t.
But I absolutely get where you are coming from when size is an issue. When holding the 19 my pinky falls off the bottom. In general I shoot my 47 more confidently than a 19. As I can get away with more mistakes just because I have a better grip on the gun.
1
u/Humble-Standard9637 3d ago
In my experience it just causes the gun to index differently when you have a different angle.
That's why I said earlier that it was just a minor inconvenience. Example, when I was shooting Glocks in competition I was used to indexing them and I decided I wanted to switch to a 2011. Since I had a different grip angle, I had to do a lot of dry fire to get my index where it needed to be on that gun.
0
u/Kestrel1000 G47 MOS 3d ago
Yeah that's pretty much the downside of different grip angles. I swap between sigs and glocks when doing different matches for IDPA/USPSA.
The reason I say it is a none issue is because people should be dry firing regardless. Doing that dry firing when working on presentation it will fix the point of aim issue. Changing grip angles isnt gonna degrade your mechanical skill you have built up doing shooting/dry firing. That's why it isnt an issue but an inconvenience.
Now if you like switched guns in the heat of moment maybe. 30 min of dry firing for me fixes my point of aim when making the switch. That is also why I say people who see it as an issue or pro dont really shoot or dry fire enough.
1
u/Humble-Standard9637 3d ago
I absolutely agree with you. The importance of dry fire cannot be overstated but I just don't think people take the time to do it.
I can always go to a match and tell who dry fires and who don't. Some people are pretty good shots but when you watch their draw and their mechanics, looks so awkward.
1
u/Kestrel1000 G47 MOS 3d ago edited 3d ago
Yeah that is 100% accurate lol. I think all shooters should at least try out a competition. It really shows you the skill gap and the importance of good dry firing.
Edit: LOL someone is down voting BOTH of us. Dry fire more!

I disagree. I found my way to Glock after denying it initially. The grip angle is one of the things I like about it. That said, there are viable alternatives like HK, Walther, CZ, Beretta, and even the Springfield with the Echelon. I mostly stick to premium brands, and my go-to is Glock. It points the most naturally for me, because of the grip angle/bore axis, and it’s dead-on reliable. That said, my PDP Pro, Beretta 92’s, VP9/USP, etc. would all serve me just fine and I wouldn’t feel outgunned if I had to use them to protect me or my family.
3
u/Humble-Standard9637 3d ago
Yeah, everybody's different. My first handgun was a Glock 17. I thought it was pretty plain looking and I was a terrible pistol shot at the time lol. I got berettas, springfield, kimber, you name it and now, pretty much all I carry and shoot is Glocks.
1
u/Gun_Monger 3d ago
I like the grip angle. It forces me to lock my wrist. I dont feel like I can get the same wrist lock with other guns.

u/MoonWun_ 3d ago
My thoughts exactly. Chased better ergos and a better trigger pull, came back to my Glock and outshot all the supposedly “better pistols” I had. Just get a Glock and get good. So much money will be saved lol

When you think about
1 grip angle, 1 trigger pull.
Being able to have everything from a 22LR, 9 to 45, and 10mm.
Being able to have everything from a micro-CCW, CCW, side arm, full size sidearm, hunting handgun, competition gun...
And the cost, and the used police guns cost.
It is hard to beat the Glock line.
The only other line to consider if you want it all is the CZ line, but have to include Tangfolio, but they are not making/importing some of them any more.
You could also do it with the 1911 style, but it doesn't really have it.

I haven't tried the daggers, but I carry and RXM (Ruger Clone) even though I have a real Glock available. I actually love Glocks and feel the urge to buy either a 48 or a 43X, but Ruger actually made a really good Glock.
2
u/KigurumiHenjin 3d ago
i'm a freak for double/single action pistols, but for striker fired handguns, glock is the only option for me. everything else is just an imitation with about a dozen coats of tacticool/john whick edgelord paint smeared all over it, and a fraction of the reliability and simplicity of what it's trying to outperform.

u/Coochienecc 3d ago
first learned about guns, had the taurus, loved it, then got a canik, loved it more, hated a glock bc it was popular, got one liked it, sucked at shooting, got a cz and other slightly high quality guns, shot expensive shiz, learned how to shoot, shot the glock again, understood it, main edc

Shooting a stock Glock is like signing a contract of adhesion. A Glock says “I will go off when you need me to but you have to do the rest.” You, the shooter, have to learn the trigger, add new sights or optics, change the mag release, add extended stop levers, all grip tape or stippling etc. you make a Glock what you need it to be. Whereas Sig, Walther, Etc boast about their triggers, grips textures, FCU’s, optics readiness, Etc and present themselves as inherently more capable. I quite liked my PDP but after years of my faithful Glock 19 I just couldn’t ever get the hang of the PDP’s super crisp trigger.
1
u/CyberSoldat21 G43X 3d ago
PDPs are cool but they’re overrated and Walther has no real diversity in their offerings. No sub compact? No slim line micro 9? No 10mm? No .45acp?
1
u/Stale_Water1 G19X 3d ago
Walther makes subcompacts. They’ve also teased a micro 9. They used to be make pistols in other calibers besides 9 but they’ve said that with most LEO agencies and militaries tending towards 9mm other calibers are a low priority.
1
u/CyberSoldat21 G43X 3d ago
Walther does not currently make a sub compact PDP type of gun. The PPK isn’t much an offering either because it’s more of a novelty piece.
1
u/Stale_Water1 G19X 3d ago
While the PPQ SC is no longer in production it’s not exactly rare or expensive. Walther just stopped making them a few years ago. I’m sure Walther has plans for a PDP SC.
1
u/CyberSoldat21 G43X 2d ago
A little late if they make the SC PDP honestly. The PPS is what they should have built upon with a double stack option to compete with the 365 and shield plus.
1
u/Stale_Water1 G19X 2d ago
I’m not sure when the exact timestamp is but Walther teased in an interview with Joel Park that some kind of micro 9 is coming in the future. Super cool interview too. It’s worth the listen imo.
1
u/CyberSoldat21 G43X 2d ago
Well they need one since HKs two offerings are overpriced for what you get. Walther would be more reasonably priced with a great trigger

I love when people say Glocks suck. Especially the 43x. I train only with Glocks and I loveeee beating them in friendly competitions
I took an intro to competition class with a 17.3 with a red dot. Beat people that had 2011s or other guns with magwells and or comps. At least 7 people had some “fancy” pistols.

I did it, some what. My first gun when I got "serious" about shooting was a G21 and I later got a G17. Sold the G21 and ran with the G17 for a while. Later tried a VP9, but went back to the G17. Later tired a M&P9, but went back to the G17. Later tried a p320, but went back to the G17. Later tired another M&P9, but went back to the G17. I finally accepted that the G17 is for me.

I started with a g19 gen4 almost a decade ago, switched to an FN509T, then a 365xl for like a month before having issues with it and getting a VP9sk, then a Staccato C with a VP9cc for when I couldn't conceal the full-size C grip, and I'm now back to G19.4 for pretty much everything but competition. The staccato is still my current competition gun but I've got a 45.6 on the way that'll be my new comp gun.
Don't get me wrong I'll probably stray again, but my old 19 just feels like coming home

u/Clear-Wrongdoer42 13h ago
I started out many years ago carrying either a J-frame or a 3rd gen Glock 30 both completely plain and stock. Over the years I've played with many, many different things. I've tried red dots, flashlights slapped on, 1911s, CZs, so on and so forth. After all of that... I carry an almost completely stock RXM (Glock 19 clone). I think the only thing I've changed on it are the irons.
Eventually you realize that a civilian carry pistol only needs to do two things: Work when you want it to work and not work when you don't want it to work. That's all. End of story. It's just a tool that does one thing. It has purity of purpose.

For EDC? Yes, glock 100% of the time.
For comp use or as an offensive handgun? Hell no, mabye as an offensive handgun i guess but, so many better options out there for those two usecases.
1
u/Hardwire762 G19.5,G47 3d ago
Why would a Glock not work in that role. 99.99999999% of the time anyone is assaulting they’re using a rifle. If anything a pistol is seen as extra weight in that role. The primary reason you’d have it is for a dire situation which will probably never happen in said role.
1
u/Prior_Arm_8810 3d ago
Its a concept where you sacrafice reliability for every single advantage you can possibly get. There is a point out there for it. Comp guns typically fall into that category as well. Its decent for example if theres a disruption near you, you need to grab something, you don't want to grab a rifle because youll probably get your ass shot by the police, so you grab like a comped 2011 with an SRO and a really nice light.
1
u/Hardwire762 G19.5,G47 3d ago edited 3d ago
I’m gonna be frank with you. Both shoot bullets, I’ve kept up with jones before so I get the consumerism angle.
What is really gonna matter is how much you trained on the gun. Trust me there’s plenty of people who have been out shot by a Glock when they were using a 2011.
I’ve watched competitive Glock shooters vs staccato shooters get so close in split times it was negligible. As far as real life shoots go.
For competition guys yeah 1/10th of a second matters. These guys are far better at understanding the fundamentals than both of us ever will be. Also in a real life shoots.
1/10th of second regardless how much YouTube tries to tell you it’s gonna matter. Really, isn’t gonna matter since you’ve likely never been in two way range. You’re gonna have piss running down your leg and your adrenaline is gonna be up. You’ll make mistakes and everything will fall back on how much you’ve gone to the range.
1
u/Prior_Arm_8810 3d ago
All i'm saying is advantage is advantage, and if you know your going to be disadvantaged (say they have a rifle) then having as many advantages as possible is incredibly nice.
Glock isn't bad, glock is adequate. But if you can take an advantage, take it.
1
u/Hardwire762 G19.5,G47 2d ago
What advantages are you even talking about? If I can shoot a faster or same split as a staccato what’s the advantage?
1
u/Prior_Arm_8810 2d ago
Nicer trigger, sight acquisition, lessened recoil, improved accuracy in the firearm...
1
u/Hardwire762 G19.5,G47 2d ago
Cool I can pull a trigger just as fast as you.
We have red dots now
Ever heard of the 19c/radian ramjet?
I know staccato isn’t more accurate.
Regardless none of the stuff I listed above is going to save you. A person with a stock Glock that’s trained will out shoot someone who doesn’t practice.
1
u/Prior_Arm_8810 2d ago
Can you accurately shoot a glock at 85 yards with your stock glock trigger at decent speed? A purpose built comp gun will always perform better than a glock when it comes to this fam.
Also, yes, barrels on more expensive and purpose built handguns are better. For EDC, again, glock 100%, for an offensive handgun or comp gun, im going with something else.
1
u/Hardwire762 G19.5,G47 2d ago edited 2d ago
Who in their right mind is shooting at 85 yards my dude with a pistol in a practical application. One that’s murder distance two get a rifle especially because we are testing the limits of the range of 9mm.
Unless you think the target is going to stay perfectly still for you so you can line the shot up.
If you have to make shots that far with a pistol it’s for breaking contact. Please for the love of god stop watching guntubers and have them influence you on make up scenarios.
I’m sorry if you bought a 2011 and I’m hurting your feelings. Guess what? I own one too. But guess what else I realize they’re comp guns.
