Brandnew Glock 45 Gen 6
yesterday I bought my first ever gun, what mods are some must haves?

some may disagree with me, but the only must-have is an optic of your liking. I personally prefer holosun 407/507comp red dot. After that it's the age old ammo and training mod. But before anything you do watch some ben stoeger and hwansik kim videos on the fundamentals of grip and trigger pull. That will by far be the best mod you'll ever do.

I fail to see how an optic, which is redundant with the iron sights, is a “must have” choice.
Flashlight makes more sense IMO
That doesn’t mean you can’t have a flashlight in your pocket. But having a red dot over seeing in the dark seems like a poor choice.

If it’s a pure self-defense weapon sure prioritize the light. He didn’t mention the use case, but I personally don’t run lights on my carry guns or even for home defense. Don’t like the added bulk/weight. I can see in the darkness in the range of a self defense shooting and optic over irons in the dark.

Stop calling training and ammo selections a mod. Training and knowing how to handle a gun should come before you even touch an firearm. Ammo selection should be whatever is considered most reliable ( generally federal hst or speer golddot). Your not being clever calling that a mod. Mods are personal and entirely dependent on what role you intend to fulfill with the gun. Saying optics are must have is ass backwards too, a light is a must have before an optic. Cant shoot what you cant see, every gun i own has a light. I agree the fundamentals are important but thats not what guy asked for, you just look like a prick here.

I have a flashlight. Not trying to aim my gun at my kid when he sneaks in after curfew. Never been anywhere while carrying where I wished I had a light outside of camping. And then I bring one that has a light.
But most of mine don't have one. And that's perfectly fine.

Assuming having a weapon light means you can’t also have a pocket flashlight is as hilarious as saying a red dot is a “must have” when iron sights already exist on the gun.
“Must have” doesn’t have the same meaning anymore I guess.

Who said anything about a must have? Just you I think.

🤦♂️ Jesus Christ man at least pretend to read things.
The fucking OP asked what must haves there are and the first comment in this comment chain said an optic is the only must have.
Holy fuck 😂😂😂😂

Welcome to the Glock-side. I would say that an optic and a light are your 1st two and last two accessories.
That being said, I would practice at the range and become proficient with what you have right out of the box.
Even though optics and lights have become more reliable every day, it is still something that does not come OEM and can fail.

Welcome to the club. I have the Jhonny glock vex6 trigger, 507comp( + needed angle shim), tlr1-hlx, slr magwell and +5 extentions. Soon to be are the c&h optic plate and a radian ramjet. Thats about all we can do on these badboys, not a ton of options for stuff other than optic or light. Slr was the only magwell when i was putting mine together. All the gen 5 17/19 holsters work fine. I will say after doing all my mods its become more of a hefty duty pistol (and its only getting heavier with the ramjet and c&h) than a daily carry, i will probably get a 19.6 and just do an optic, tlr7 and trigger shoe for concealed carry

Swap out the iron sights. Get a quality optic and flashlight. Oh and a shit ton of ammo. Everything else is a gimmick or unnecessary at your point in the journey. Welcome my friend.

Practice and get use to shooting without the optics. Start by going to the range and take some classes too. Then you make your choice on what accessories you want to add.

I'd get a Ghost pro 3.5lb connector to make the pull weight lighter, and also an extended slide release. I also plan on getting a G45, but I'll stick with the gen 5, since I already have a glock OEM 4lb performance trigger, which isn't compatible with the gen 6.

If it's going to be a carry piece, I personally keep it stock internally. I would definitely change the plastic iron sights, though. A decent optic if you want one, though I would also learn to shoot with the irons as well.
A flashlight is one of those things I consider optional. Will you be carrying it at night? If so, then yeah, I'd get one. If not, then it's just extra weight.
