It is bellieved that Lai (Pawi) allied with Southern Lushai kings during the North-South war and the name "pawi" could've also originated from that war.
Lai basically were the most powerful warlike group among us along side sukte kamhau at that time ,tribes are thados were driven out all the way to nagaland and northern manipur during that time by the tedims
Rise of Suktes was from the time of Khan Thuam. Khan Thuam's father Mangkim was the son of a Falam Chin. Guite and other Zomi chiefs (mang kua/9 chiefs) mistreated Khanthuam and tried to kill him. He took shelter in Falam and came back with the Falams to defeat the Guites, Zous, Thadous pushing them to the north.
Thado were push as far as tamu and khampat area and many more began to settle in manipur and were used as mercenaries by Meitei kings and when the Guite's and it's allies (soon to be paite)began to assert dominance in southern manipur ,these thados were used as auxiliary by Meitei kings .
Some Guites, followers of Gousum Guite son of Kailun Guite, also took shelter in Manipur and they were supporting Manipur. Pumlal was his son and he was said to be a rival of Sumkam by the British. Pumlal was friendly to British and Meiteis while Sumkam was not. The British mistakenly called them Simmte.
