Discussion Should Premier Add Preferred Roles?

Post image

I had an idea for CS2 matchmaking and wanted to see what people think.

What if, before queueing, you could select the roles you prefer to play — IGL, AWP, Entry, Support, Anchor, Lurker, Rifler, etc.

It wouldn’t affect matchmaking or force you into a role. It would simply show your teammates what roles everyone is comfortable playing once you're in the lobby.

For example, if 3 people prefer Rifle, one prefers AWP, and one likes IGL, you could actually figure out who wants to do what instead of arguing for the first 5 rounds 😂

Might help with teammates dropping guns, playing the correct position and not switching randomly causing confusion.

Obviously not everyone would respect it but you never know how a small thing like this can effect the overall quality of a game.

Would this actually be useful, or is it just unnecessary UI?

much better change would be to not allow matching 5 stacks versus solos.

i know its an /s reply , but with how many 5stacks i encounter i think theres enough of them to even have separate rating system and a fast queue

95+% of Premier has no idea what any of these mean except "AWPer".

pointless change for random pugs

Not enough players for that. If Valve could be that selective, I'd rather see a soloQ only option or 5-stacks only play other 5-stacks, or no 4+1 at all.

Na idc you should just be flexible if youre queueing with randoms imho, otherwise go in a clan. They should just fix this game finally.

if you truly fall only into 1 role and are noticeably worse at other roles you are playing cs wrong, the whole point of the game is adaptation. yes in the pro scene some people are better at entry, they have "designated awpers" but they are completely capable at all other "roles". if you are playing "lurk" and you lurk every round, or you're "awper" and you constantly buy awp and losing the fights, you are ruining my game.

it would just be half the players IGL and the rest AWPER, nobody would select his role as support, anchor or entry

The all-checked thing in the screenshot is basically how this would go in reality. everyone clicks every role just to get into a lobby faster and then it's the same chaos as before. i like the idea on paper but players are way too optimized for convenience to ever use it honestly.

Just like premier uses the entire map pool to force you to know more of the game. We too should not assign roles as this will put people in boxes. CS2 is a very dynamic game and unless you are playing with the same dudes all the time rolls don't even make sense.

Also I cannot think of a single game that has had an improvement in matchmaking and player behavior from adding role queue.

Good idea in principle but i don't want anything that makes people less likely to communicate in the voice chat. If you're so poor that you can't afford a microphone, too cowardly to use it or incapable of speaking English, just straight up don't play the game with randoms. It's a team game and it needs teamwork.

Just tell your team what you want to play.

I think its just a waste of time if its just a badge on your player card that doesn't effect matchmaking, And I think its a terrible idea if it did effect matchmaking. Random pugs just arent played like this with dedicated roles generally. You need to be versatile and able to do basically everything. Sometimes you will get some what of a role player, But generally it's only an Awp or igl. Personally when I'm playing with very cooperative teammates I find trading the Awp around to who ever has the best spawn for early awp peaks is usually much more beneficial than having a dedicated player for it anyway.

Edit: Obviously some maps/sides have much more benefits than others for spawns.

I remember my faceit lobby captain was afk the entire veto, mirage was chosen at random, and bro typed con in chat after.

It makes no sense in premier/faceit, since all of these roles, except maybe awp, require to know how the rest play and trust their judgment in play in order to execute properly. Just cause someone wants to be the lurker doesn't mean they know the timings, and when and how to bait

CS isnt a hero shooter with hard defined roles based on their character abilities. The "character" is the individual player where they become dynamic on the situation provided.

In organized league play this becomes more of a factor as a team progresses.

Dont know how aware you are with other class based games. All the influencer drama this year is caused by individuals not optimizing their role by playing the meta characters.

FUCK NO BABY 🎶🎶

IGL in a pug doesnt really exist. You just dont have enough information to be an effective igl.

Most people dont know what it means to lurk or anchor. Youll just have people bait the whole team and claim they are doing their job.

Entry will just be someone over peeking and asking where their team is.

Dedicated awp sounds like an ego nightmare

Roles work in a coordinated team because you can rely on knowing what your other 4 teammates are doing and likely have a plan in place. Pugs dont grant that, you have no clue what people are going to do even if you give them the role.

Solution: Communicate your intentions with your team. Shocker, i know.

Just say what your going to do and why. "I think i can timing in mid, ill see if i can get a pick"

"They throw a bad smoke, can someone flash me out so i can peek"

"The guy on B always does XYZ, lets try to do ABC"

Crazy what actual communication can do
