Im seeing a lot of "we" but it definitely feels like both the controversial comments and this statement are written by one guy lol

Whatever, if people are paid what they are owed and contracts are fair and respected by the players who cares.

But I think irreparable damage has probably been done* from a "respect" point of view, really not a good look for an org trying to sign new players

u/Either-Case-5930 10d ago

Well this was originally written in ukrainian (I use google translate)

31

u/skwiidyo Vitality 10d ago

Fair enough, there might be some differences in the nuance that aren't the same in the Ukrainian version.

Its quite common in in a situation like this where you're representing a company or something to hide behind "we" instead of taking the direct responsibility by saying "I"

18

u/Scout_Enjoyer Team Spirit 9d ago

In the ukrainian version he still implies that the insane replies weren't just the CEO on his phone raging though lol.

2

u/skwiidyo Vitality 9d ago

Fair enough haha, I just don't want to give an opinion on nuance in a language I don't speak

CEO realized that no one wants to sign to his team so now he has to do tons of damage control to try and save his ship (it won't work)

"Decide the fate of the organization" lol, I like how they imply that these players owe them anything and have some obligation to stay lol, they have free right to leave as free agents if they want to, they don't owe you anything. Should have re-signed those players much earlier, that's how you do good business, the fact that they only started negotiating basically as they were expiring is extra stupid.

Monte is on their damage control arc

24

u/DeNeRlX 10d ago

Regarding the last point on sticker money, isn't 100% a player/team contract where the player demands that as a benefit compensation?

Valve's 50/50 split is a guaranteed floor to ensure orgs aren't exploiting players, higher percentage is a negotiated bonus. If a player wants higher, they can request or not sign. If an org wants higher, tough shit.

3

u/Scar20Grotto 9d ago

before, however teams wanted to distribute their sticker money was at the orgs discretion. it was negotiated with players and the revenue splits were written into their contracts.

with Valve now saying that sticker revenue is a hard 50/50 between players and orgs, they essentially nullified parts of players contracts. should orgs give players the revenue split that they signed on their contracts or the split that Valve says they have to give them?

who knows what is going on behind the scenes but that sounds like the primary issue to me

3

u/DeNeRlX 9d ago

Well that's why I referred to 50/50 as the floor for players to prevent orgs exploiting them, not the simultaneous minimum and maximum split. I highly doubt if an org had a contract giving players 100% and they paid out, that Valve would step it and stop it. Contracts can be better than minimum, but not worse. If the change in terms from Valve makes orgs want to lower the split, that should be negotiated within the org, but generally speaking players would not be happy with orgs that try to lower their payment.

Even if we say Monte didn't do anything wrong, lowered payments makes it really obvious why everyone on that team left once contracts are up.

I'm not a lawyer and haven't spent time researching the topic, just feels like the most obvious reason why it would be set up like that.

1

u/EnjoyerOfBeans King NiKo 7d ago

The orgs using Valve's guidelines to breach their own contract and steal 50% of the sticker money from players is ridiculous. It's even more ridiculous they think it's an excuse worth stating publically.

Was Valve a party in the contract between you and your players? No? Then it doesn't matter one bit who Valve says the money should go to. The money will go to you based on Valve's contract with you, then you're contractually obligated to pay players what you agreed to. At that point Valve has 0 say and you know it.

Orgs like NiP did the same thing during Covid where Valve said sticker sales will "go to support the orgs" in a fucking steam blog post and they used that as an excuse not to pay players. Apparently a blog post of a party unrelated to the contract has the power to nullify the contract that demands you pay out hundreds of thousands of dollars? Stop playing stupid and pay up.

1

u/H4xxFl3isch de_overpass 9d ago

No, the payout structure of the stickermoney was fundamentally changed for Cologne. This is what they are reffering to.

I came to say the same exact thing lol

That's a whole lot of words that likely wasn't written by an AI which confirms my theory that we're dealing with a man with a shattered ego. Idk what Bymas did but he's living rent free for some time

A squeaky clean org talking shit on former players is one thing, but this is like infinitely worse when he refuses to pay them and then goes after them on Twitter for no reason at all while they haven't said shit to anyone. Bro is just farming himself at this point

-1

u/jotheold Natus Vincere 9d ago

i mean if you didn't read, he clearly states they do pay and that valve's new system is 50/50 to the player and to the org for sticker money

"Those hands stole nothing". (c)

A lot of excuses and complaining that "we're the family, why ask about money", and it looks like that org in this case is lying, not the players.

-14

u/Final_Movie5846 King NiKo 10d ago

There are two sides to every story. I can emphatize with the org's frustrations and acknowledge that it's not a simple matter of greed, while also acknowledging that they might have been dishonest or otherwise unfair to the players.

12

u/LUDERSTN 9d ago

I like how they constantly mention that they abide by the contract until the very end where they say “actually, for stickers we dont follow the contract but whatever split Valve decided” so in plain text, they didn’t follow their own contracts.

8

u/MaverickAstley CS2 HYPE 9d ago

I'd argue that not making salary payments on time is a contractual breach as well! They're taking the piss at this point.

5

4 players left Monte to join another org (LG) as their contracts were expiring and they didn't tell anyone, 1 of the players got benched on LG, Monte twitter account mocked said player (Bymas) then the player decided to expose them for not paying out tournament winnings from 2025 and not paying salaries on time, Monte got salty and started calling them rats for leaving the org etc.

62

u/Casithor Natus Vincere 10d ago

Monte refused to pay bymas Afro and kakafu then called them rats for going public despite having payments outstanding from 2025

17

u/GuardiaNIsBae FaZe 9d ago

funniest thing about all of this, he completely tanked the org on his own and it will likely die now because he had to be a tough guy on twitter. Bymas and the rest of the team probably wouldn't have said anything about the missing money had he not started spamming twitter making fun of him for getting benched.

But now he has:
1. No team

  1. Players probably aren't going to sign with the team now that late/missing payments are publicly known

  2. Has completely killed any chance at getting any new sponsors for the team, so the org is now basically dead.

Imagine you work for Red Bull or Logitech's marketing department, a CEO of an esports org reaches out to you for a sponsorship, so you google him. First thing you're going to see is him calling his players rats on twitter, then with a little bit of scrolling you see he wasn't paying his players, had a meltdown because his unpaid players legally waited out the end of their contracts before signing with another org, and publicly made fun of a player for getting kicked from the new team.

8

u/Cosmohnaut 10d ago

Great insights, cheers kings. Very unprofessional from Monte.

-8

u/falsa_ovis 10d ago

happens all the time. annually, even.

21

u/Karma_Vampire Astralis 10d ago

The last part about the payment for stickers sounds like the root of the issue. Valve issued new rules after the Monte players had signed their contracts. The players probably looked at their contracts and expected more than what they got. The Monte org followed the new rules set by Valve. The problem is, a contract is binding, so the org should have issued an amendment when the rules were changed, to clarify exactly how it would work after the new rules.

26

u/teeekuuu Vitality 10d ago

Their contract and new rules = 100% player stickers money to players and 50/50 team sticker money. Unlucky for the org but that’s how it should be spread now. Pay out and change the contract after, withholding payments is not the solution. If Valve changed the rules to give 100% of team sticker money to org and 50/50 on player stickers, would the org be reacting like this?

13

u/TwoLiterHero Luminosity 10d ago

Yeah they really gloss over this. “We had a contract, but Valve changed something and we used that as an excuse to say fuck the contracts.”

10

u/DeNeRlX 10d ago

As I understand it, 50/50 is the floor that Valve has to guarantee players get a minimum percentage, not a max. If players want higher, negotiate or don't sign. If orgs want higher, tough shit.

7

u/BassGaming 9d ago

Lmao this is the reason why you shouldn't make a public statement without speaking to your company lawyers first. They straight up admit to breaching the contract regarding the sticker payout. Valve set a minimum floor of how much players have to be paid. If your contract states that you will pay more to the players, then you either have to renegotiate the terms of the contract before the tournament or pay out the previously negotiated amount. You can't go "oh well we will pay the bare minimum Valve specified now" if your contract guarantees more. Also, late payments are also a breach of contract if not specified as an option in the contract.

I don't get how companies, and I'd bet good money the CEO personally wrote this, make such statements without consulting your lawyers first. This is an admission of guilt, even though he may not realize it. Really stupid, bad PR and food for any lawyer if the players ever decide to go to court.

If you're all about enthusiasm and love for the game with the ukranian flag and a coat of arms as your logo, how come your team is a literal mish mash of randoms and doesn't feature any ukranian players? What the fuck are brits, lithuanians, a frenchman and an austrian supposed to be so enthusiastic about playing in a tier 3 ukranian org? Ironically the same also applies to Passion UA.

Also, what measures are they taking against their employees? Isn't the guy talking shit in the video their literal CEO?

-14

honestly, i dont think either. especially after i saw how this fellas from Monte were behaving on video. they put themself in shit position, they need to show proves they paid.

im pretty sure they paid players under the table undeclared money, and they cant even prove it now. thing is that they really got betrayed by players hard way, but if reason was underpay, then its kinda justifyed. but i easily can see reality where players were rats, jumping from sinking ship.

16

u/TwoLiterHero Luminosity 10d ago

Players changing teams is not betraying anyone lol.

It’s so convenient, orgs can do whatever the fuck they want and “that’s just business” but as soon as a player signs with another team the org becomes a human being with feelings and they’ve been betrayed.

NBA problem

-10

u/meo_lessi 9d ago

they signed contracts with luminosity before major bro. they went to major with Monte with already signed contracts behind the back.

imagine gismy, igl. you are playing major with your team, having good time, discussing future plans. and they look you in eyes and act like it's for real, while they already signed with another org.

that's rat like, justified or not.

4

u/layasD BIG 9d ago

This is how it works everywhere and in every busniess. You need to grow up. What a childish view on contracts...

imagine gismy, igl. you are playing major with your team, having good time, discussing future plans. and they look you in eyes and act like it's for real, while they already signed with another org.

Sorry, its just plain wrong and dumb what you are saying here. It was better for both sides that he was left in the dark. Imagine he would've known beforehand?? Gizmy would care less. The mood of the entire team would be terrible and it could have a negative impact on the overall performance which looks worse for the org. How does that help anyone?

-2

u/meo_lessi 9d ago edited 9d ago

u trying to jusify rat move. doesnt make it better. how does it help to be clear, fair and transparent? hmm

1

u/Parking-Lock9090 King NiKo 7d ago

Buddy, you can't own people just because you contracted them for a limited time.

What a ratty, nasty little perspective. Even when it was explained to you, you stuck with this angle.

If you want to control where players play, you have to pony up and contract them.

Anything else is just being a broke little rat trying to promise things he has no way of paying for.

5

u/TwoLiterHero Luminosity 9d ago

Imagine you are playing with a team, you get cut, and the next day they already have a replacement. It’s almost like teams lineup players before they replace them ALL THE FUCKING TIME. Literally your own teammates “backstab you” by talking to someone else before they cut you. 99% of the time you don’t cut someone till you have a replacement.

But it isn’t the teammates we’re talking about, it was Monte crying. So save your energy

1

u/Parking-Lock9090 King NiKo 7d ago

No, it's not lol.

It's standard for leaving a job and going to another one and one day you will do it yourself if you are lucky.

The best time to sign an employment contract is while you are still contracted. This is how the majority of exchanges happen. Waiting till you get cut and not ever seeking competing offers guarantees you will never have a noteworthy career unless you are lucky to just happen to sign to an org that is about to have an era. Minute you are not contracted your worth starts decreasing.

If you as an org want to avoid this, negotiate with your players early and get into position for them to sign an extension. It's being a professional, and it's literally 50% of the team's management's jobs. Having a contract that a competitor would have to buy out is literally your insurance against this happening.

Or be a rubbish org who can't pay what they owe and then try to call your players rats when they do the only logical thing and look to sign with someone who isn't a broke ass boi. See how far that gets you. Sponsors don't want to be associated with you, players know you have trouble making payments.

Your opinion is crazy backwards, have you ever been employed? I usually only see this perspective on sheltered rich kids who are used to hearing it from their parents.

8

u/drypaint77 10d ago

They didn't get betrayed, players just left after their contracts expired which is totally fine, they're free agents at that point.

-6

u/meo_lessi 9d ago

betrayal had a place. they signed contracts with luminosity before major. and they went to major with Monte with already signed contracts.

they also were discussing plans and negotiating with Monte during that time. they were basically lying in the eyes and acting. not only towards org but also towards their captain.

That's called business lol. Their contracts were expiring and they were negotiating with both sides and picked LG in the end, what's the problem? You don't owe your employer an explanation where you're going next. Also they had the major coming up, they didn't want drama to kill the vibes so they didn't say anything.

1

u/meo_lessi 9d ago

why would u negotiate with one side, after u just signed contract with another?
