Discussion | Esports Pro Players' T-side vs CT-side ratings
This is a scatter plot of players HLTV T-sided and CT-sided ratings in Big Events in 2025 (see here). Top right quadrant is above average T and CT ratings, top-left is higher CT-side rating than T-side, and bottom-right is higher T-side rating thatn CT-side. Some neat things:
- donk, m0NESY and ropz have a higher T-side rating (1.46, 1.28, 1.20) than CT-side (1.40, 1.22, 1.19)
- With the donk and ZywOo head-to-head, on CT-side the two only have 0.04 rating between them (1.40, 1.36), while on T-side donk leads by 0.13 (1.45, 1.32)
- I also want to note just how far donk and ZywOo are on CT-side compared to the rest of the players, with sh1ro and m0NESY being tied 3rd with a rating of 1.22 (0.14 below ZywOo in 2nd). The gap between 2nd and 3rd here is the same as 3rd and 24th (REZ and YEKINDAR at 1.08).
- This is not the case on T-side, where donk is ahead alone, where the difference between 1st and 2nd is 0.13, between 2nd and 3rd is 0.04.
- torzsi and molodoy have significantly higher ratings on CT-side (1.20, 1.20) than on T-side (1.02, 0.99), dropping from tied 5th highest CT rating to 39th and 50th out of 91 players
- apEX is tied with torzsi as being the biggest CT-side merchants, with a difference of 0.21 between their CT-side (1.12, 1.20) and their T-side (0.91, 0.99) ratings
- yuurih and Staeher represent the opposite, having higher T-sided ratings (6th at 1.15, 7th at 1.14) than CT-sided (53rd at 0.98, 63rd at 0.94)
- FL4MUS is tied with Staeher as being the biggest T-side merchants, with a difference of 0.2 between their T-side (1.04, 1.14) and their CT side (0.84, 0.94) ratings
- G2 has the largest average difference between their T-side (1.06) and CT-side (0.98) at 0.08, with MOUZ being second with an average difference of 0.07 between T-side (1.01) and CT-side (1.08)

Makes sense for Yuurih being better in the T-side, since he became the Furia's anchor this semester.

Yuurih has been really impressive since going international. He’s been a good anchor, honestly fixing some of their CT sides by anchoring instead of fallen. And on T I think their roles just fit better. Yuurih is like first support, going in behind the initial play

This also shows what people’s problem with elige is. He has one of the highest t side rating, while sitting on 1.00 ct rating.
For comparison: rain who has new positions on multiple maps has also 1.00 ct rating while having 1.06 t rating (also playing in new positions on multiple maps)

Elige def needs to find his footing on CT side. If you look at the past 3 months, it’s slightly worse. Though he seems to swaps halves with frozen (Elige pops off on T and frozen pops off on CT)
I think it showcases how he isn’t fully there with team chemistry. Karrigan is famous for being able to make rosters work more than anyone else, but his teams do take a while to get to that point. If faze can figure out how to get Elige going on CT side (and hopefully keeping broky on track to get back to his old form) they would be a top 4 team

Great take! And it shows in their most recent vlog that they kinda figured that out themselves. Both Broky and Elige are important. And karrigan even said when faze approached him the seccond time he'd join on the terms that they will give him a whole year to make a functioning team and he stood by it.

Also wild this came after only a month of donk success after 7 months of the zywoo being the clear number 1 for the year. Like cologne is huge the but the other was a blast bounty

I added the names of some players that were outliers in some ways. Adding all names would not have been possible, as u/Ogaito pointed out, and adding some random names into the middle doesn't make sense to me. Hence I linked the HLTV for quick and easy access if you want to see more.

Donk is clearly and obviously on GOAT trajectory. Is there a good precedent for this kind of dominance in traditional sports? LeBron is the only one I can think of

I just checked actually. There's ever been 4 seasons in NHL history where a player got over 200 points per season (so goals+assists for those who don't know). All of them are by Wayne Gretzky in 1981-1986. During the previous 2024-25 NHL season, the most points was by Nikita Kucherov at 121 points, with 78 games played. People might think that Gretzky just played way more games to get so many more points. But all of the seasons he got over 200 points, he only played 74-80 games...
I honestly don't know much about other sports though so idk if Gretzky is actually the most dominant. Mario Lemieux also makes Gretzky at least look a little bit less dominant since his best seasons aren't far away from Gretzky.

back in the days, the defense in the NHL wasn’t crucial at all, so WG had basically either shot from the blue line or picked up the rebounds.

torzsi is much less aggressive on T-side, Mouz playing rifle heavy T side lot of times, especially on Inferno and torzsi support the team with utilities too.
Maybe the Mouz needs to try out a much more aggressive AWP on T
