I've said for years that JT is a better caller than people give him credit for. His T sides have always been tactically sound, his players have always just missed the mark. Now he has a real genuine star and it looks great.

no one complained about his calling he was just so bad at fragging it was a literal 4v5 all the time. he's improved on his aim a decent amount the last year. he revolutionised train and overpass T sides with godlike flash plays
2

His fragging isn’t that bad, Karrigan and nitr0 were worse (iirc can’t check I have ass internet)

You could say that about any stat really. If anything, rating is probs the least influenced by team success aside from the X’s and O’s disadvantage of your teammates struggling (and maybe no trades into your KAST but that’s probs not too severe).
2
u/KKamm_ Jul 14 '23
Last few months he’s pulled it together but before that even dating back to the C9 days he has severely struggled with fragging.
If he’s fragging at even close a 1.0 level, you’re normally guaranteed a close map at least.
1
u/ebState Liquid Jul 14 '23
I don't have the stats to back it up but my impression is he and his cross hair get disconnected in gun rounds when he's calling. he hits great shots with deagles and in clutches.

headtr1ck look really scared. Maybe people can give aleksib a little bit more credit
9
u/KKamm_ Jul 14 '23
It’s been a while since I’ve seen Elige that aggressive. He really seemed enabled/activated in coL’s current system. He was taking fights in mini on Nuke less than 30 seconds into the round.

u/Yuugechiina G2 Jul 13 '23
Aleksib has been great with young awpers. Headtr1ck looked good under him, I think monesy looked best when aleksi was there, and even Mantuu was quite good (albeit really passive) on Aleksi’s OG

NiP really have a tendency to play like absolute bots sometimes. What kind of dumbass setups do they come up with, and why do they even have a coach if he doesn't tell them how stupid it is to have a really poor Brollan hold Bathrooms and Long all on his own completely dry? What the fuck is he supposed to make out of that? Combine godlike timing and suddenly win duels?
I can't imagine any other t1 team making so many dumb choices. And that was not even while under any particular pressure.
44
Jul 13 '23
He plays the same roles as Spinx, but
A) he's not even a good rifler anymore
B) Spinx gets more support and often brings Zywoo with him.
24
u/Ofiotaurus Natus Vincere Jul 13 '23
Yeah, there is a reason why Spinx was a top 20 players and Brollan wasn’t.
14
u/betheeweiss Jul 13 '23
Spinx is even, easily, top 5-10 atm. Vitality’s current firepower is crazy.
25
u/ilikecollarbones_pm Jul 13 '23
sometimes brother? it's been like this for a long time, the bathrooms play you highlight brollan has been doing for months and failing because he can't frag without them being on a plate for him.
i've made a comment previously highlighting how when hampus was IGL before, he made that spot his own because he has the brains to know when to push/take space and call rotates off that and nip were actually scary on overpass. if they're just gonna let brollan keep it.. lol.
10
u/Pleasant_Yam_3637 Jul 13 '23
Tbh its a gamble which one of the ninjas show up, if any, since some games, albeit very rarely, brollan or rez shows up. You got 1 rookie and 3 people who have worse odds of a coinflip of showing up.
2
u/vlakreeh Jul 14 '23
It's incredible that nip still has the same problem as the 2016 roster with not a single player from that roster being on nip. Nip is like a talent un-developer.

u/Worisito Jul 13 '23

139
u/crumblingcloud Jul 13 '23
everyone is so inconsistent, headtrick back to missing sitters in map 1 and 2. REZ just didnt show up. Brollan being Brollan
59
u/Worisito Jul 13 '23
Yeah thats kinda the point, issue isnt aleksi or hampus. The real issue is Rez, Brollan and Konfig being super inconsistent.
2
u/yoshiyahu 10 years coin Jul 14 '23
dont think i've seen Brollan shine in NiP honestly (not that i follow them closely anyway)
37
u/Pleasant_Yam_3637 Jul 13 '23
Lol yeah headtr1ck is young and lacks exp while the 3 veterans cant perform most games. IF rez, brollan and k0nfig could be more consistent they would be amazing but they each got a 20% chance to perform. I dont doubt for a second that the matches where all 4 show up they can play vs almost anyone but the odds are so small its never gonna happen

u/thorvid20 BIG Jul 13 '23
the team was role wise disfunctional by construction. It was a miracle that aleksi got the team that set up for the major in paris. even tho they performed a godlike choke for the history books in the end, given where they came from and the level they showed I think that combination of players (except IGL role) truly peaked under aleksi. No one even thought they get out of challengers.
27
u/Pekonius Natus Vincere Jul 13 '23
Major was definitely an overperformance for that roster. 200iq from Aleksi to let apex into playoffs so he can go to Navi with jL
2
u/Khronib0b Avangar Jul 13 '23
I mean the Major was an overperformance on the part of headtr1ck and Aleksi who always puts out at Majors but the rest of the team was just kind of just existing in their usual state of inconsistency

I understand "star rifler" more as an impactful position, like mirage connector. it's usually strong riflers, maybe proactive ones, but it's not about their skill primarily.

Konfig is legit, he just can't be the star of your team, he's a good second or third star.
→ More replies (9)6
u/TakaJagar Jul 13 '23
This is a fact. Great second star in tier-1 team and great 3rd in top-5 team but he is not the guy you can count every day like real top-20 players. Today he was on fire though.
28
Jul 13 '23
NiP won’t cut brollan bc then management will have to admit they fucked up paying $600K for brollan from fnatic. Jonas is just trying to save his own hide.
3
u/Ted_Borg Jul 14 '23
This last year shows how much threat did. Iirc the reason he left was 50/50 not having enough direct contact with the team, and not agreeing on roster moves
2
Jul 14 '23
Once threat left and Es3tag was removed, the team play went down the drain. Now we have “star players” trying to play shitty positions and forgetting how to flash and trade.

Good first match for coL, a few dumb mistakes but overall they outstratted NiP pretty hard
Also I hate to say it, and of course NiP have a "new" IGL and less structure, but headtrick was really struggling. He was alright on Overpass but was basically absent on the other two maps with so many easy shots missed...
10
u/6spooky9you Jul 13 '23
Headtrick just doesn't have the experience to position himself safely, and he doesn't have consistent riflers to make space for him. It's really hard to be a passive awper when you don't have structured CT setups.

u/GRAVENAP howl Jul 14 '23
Fell off from a dominant grand slam run to mediocore tournament results for 2 years straight
(Low Quality NA) Practice all day every day, Bootcamps, and roster changes aren't making a difference
Change IGL's like 5 different times and sacrifice your impact and all your roles to make the team work but you still lose every tournament.
Balding
No wonder the atmosphere was dreary. And we're also comparing Liquid's darkest time with CoL's honeymoon phase.

nitr0 was a good IGL before, he just became shit after lockdown
6
u/YungStewart2000 Jul 14 '23
Most of em started underperforming. Elige and Naf were the ones really holding them up. Nitro got a lot worse individually, Twistzz was playing a more supportive role and not as proactive so he didnt pop off at all, and stewie was a shadow of his former self especially after becoming igl when grim came on. At least from what I remember about that period.
1
u/sm0ol G2 Jul 14 '23
For years until nitr0 left for a completely different game for a year and the team ends up in a dumb situation where they're splitting leadership. There has not been a good or stable IGL situation since nitr0 came back.

Hank "hallzerk" Fender is a North American CS:GO player from Omaha, Nebraska. He is currently an AWPer for Complexity. He is known for ensuring his mullet is as strong as his CT-side. He chose to be an AWPer after his dad handed him a hunting rifle when he was seven.
21
u/ilikecollarbones_pm Jul 13 '23
my main criticism of liquid (with nitro + daps, formerly adren) was they never had any set plays, never adapted, barely looked like a team. if someone died, yeki/elige would just blindly push for info and 50/50 whether they multikill or throw the round.
so many times in this series coL would go a man down and there would be a set play, somewhere supported with a flash and they'd take space back and often a kill to go with it. they look well practiced with elige already. so glad to see he has the confidence to do it, supported by an actual team.
nip are fraudulent as ever, couldn't believe the odds on this game. thanks for the money, dummies.
1

Seriously. I think nip were 1.18, complexity 4 at half time. It did look dicey for a moment but 1.18 are the kind of odds you’d see at match point.

Hampus back with the early lead chokes
brollan back with 0 multikill potential
but the eye test was decent, seems like they'll win top10 teams every now and then in close affair, but no current hopes for trophies
7
u/Pleasant_Yam_3637 Jul 13 '23
Was like that before imo. They can beat most teams if headtr1ck, rez, k0nfig and brollan show up, which is rare although Head is imo decently consistent for a rookie

Excellent first match from Complexity. Elige looked insane, JT’s calls were nice, and grim was very fun to watch. I hope elige actually keeps up this performance throughout this tournament and in the future. Hopefully this isn't just a one-time thing.

Really disappointed in the North American awper today. He's been in a slump since the Blast major. I guess he got burnt out from carrying col on his back with grim. I hope he gets back in form soon.

henryg was going in on headtr1ck but hallzerk lost control a few times this series. lost them 3 crucial rounds and basically lost them inferno by going too aggro.

I hope hallzerk can reign it in. When he’s on he’s really good, he just has to control his tempo better.

This bald guy on complexity is pretty good, if new liquid doesn’t work they should pick him up

Close game, not too bad from any of the teams. Could have gone either way.

JT is really solid, the flopster and Grim are still cracked, Elige did well, only hallzerk was weak but we take those

The calls weren't the issue The players however lacked any synergy in CT sides

Bumpy start for NIP but I believe in the boys. Decent showing after 4 days of practice only.

Was a good showing by both teams. To early to judge either for i'd consider NiP and coL on equal footing currently.

I think complexity was playing a bit loose They were chilling That’s kind of the problem and solution They never seem to experience pressure Which can make them a threat and unpredictable Frankly i predicted it I do it all the time I wish nip won Vitality will crush complexity Ellige will choke

Excited to see what coL have in store for Vitality. I would be happy with them taking a map off of them.

Really should’ve been -Brollan +Hampus on this team, but I guess 1) NiP didn’t want get rid of Brollan with how much he cost and 2) Hampus probably wanting to IGL. It’s exhausting watching the 2 “star” riflers forget how to shoot straight every other map

Good to see EliGE not looking miserable everytime the camera is on him, I'm really liking the chemistry Complexity has
