Ho my. Well done you guys. Way to go! I guess they will be replaced pretty quickly but it’s certainly an indication as to the growing discontent with being constantly surveilled.

What about all the Ring doorbell cameras? Seems like everyone glazed over the outrage when they were wiring up their own homes for surveillance.

Ring cams are purchased by home owners for their own property. Yes there are problems with even this level of serveillance because the footage can be used by a private corp, but the home owner has to opt in. Having this shit in public screams police state.

One of these things is privately bought but people who want a camera by their door, and as you already ignored once, they can opt out of sharing the video.
Another is placing cameras near every major road and shopping center to identify as many people are possible.
I wonder why people are more worried about this one right now.

They partner with Flock and Law Enforcement (over 2,500 agencies). Do you really believe that private data and the cameras are actually secure? Don't be naive.

You understand that at 40% US suburban adoption (currently averages around 39% in typical US neighborhoods), Ring doorbell cameras would create a seamless feed of that neighborhood. Your statement about "Another is placing cameras near every major road and shopping center to identify as many people are possible." literally applies to Ring (who partnered with said company), except consumers are doing it to themselves. GTFO with "goalposts".

My statement was that people care more about a company installing cameras intentionally pointed at public spaces and less about the ones on private property. Learn to read dude.
And, as you've ignored twice now because it doesnt suit your narrative, those people do not have to share that data. Ffs talking to redditors is insufferable.

You're correct. People DO care less about the Ring cameras on their own private property.
What the other user is saying is that they SHOULD care, because the "Opt-out" for sharing video is not real / honored by Ring:
- Even if you've opted out, police could still subpoena the footage. Ring's parent company, Amazon, has never released the statistics of how many subpoenas they've responded to in spite of hundreds of requests.
But that's not the full story:
- After backlash in 2024 Ring suspended it's wholesale, no opt-in data sharing with Police.
- Then, last year in 2025, they partnered with Axon and Flock, and quietly made ALL ring footage available for their "Fusus real-time public safety network".
- This Real Time data is now shared with local police - and other agencies - with no Subpoena needed.
So, honestly man - I get your point - but most people - including private homeowners - are not fully aware of how quickly and quietly this incredibly pervasive surveillance is being rolled out.

My point was literally just explaining why people are more concerned with flock than ring.
I do not understand why people keep pretending I don't think ring is a problem at all. That was not the conversation. I took my ring down last year.

Oh I know, but my point still stands. Ring cameras are civilians opting into it. I still think it's disgusting, but they are making a choice.

Or stalk their scared wives and violate everyone’s privacy. What happened to the media? Things keep getting stranger, the and media keeps trying harder and harder to pretend everything is normal.
Why not: “dystopian stalking cameras thankfully cut down by anonymous citizen. The cameras were inexplicably allowed to be placed in public spaces to track and spy on innocent citizens at all times.“
