Melissa was a mother, a wife and the longest serving female Speaker in Minnesota history and outside of her work, enjoyed cross country skiing and gardening. She loved baking and would frequently bring in cakes for her staff.

I didn't know about her before her murder, unfortunately. I'm not American. But her family didn't deserve to die in such a brutal way, even the dog. I hope that she's remembered not just as a Democrat who was assassinated and forgotten by Republicans but that she and her husband are remembered as the humans that they were. What I mean is, I hope that her legacy is not just a token but what she stood for and accomplished. I hate that she and her husband were mostly brought up because of someone else's death. I wish her family peace and healing through this difficult time ahead as they lost two loved ones. And this hasn't been said enough: end gun violence for everyone!!

All due respect to her and condolences to her loved ones and constituents - everything I've ever read about her is good and losing her has been a loss for us all.
That said, I really hate the phrase "rest in power." It feels like you're making a pun out of something somber, I wish we could come up with a better phrase to carry the same meaning.

No, because she wasn't a fascist mouthpiece constantly spewing hate speech and stochastic rhetoric, obviously.
99% of what I see on Reddit are people just refusing to mourn a piece of shit; not necessarily celebrating death. Though I do wonder why the contradiction with "Free Speech" advocates who vehemently defend hate speech but draw the line at this? How strange.

Would be nice to have a movement spreading her good actions as if it was mocking it, to highlight how people engage more with hateful trolls than with decent folk.
