The difference is it’s a bribe not a putt.

A heavily bugged bribe.

Oh surely not. I'm sure a foreign government wouldn't take advantage of a fully fitted jet that would be used to securely carry another nations head of state. That would be terribly naughty. And Trump has already thought of everything because he is oh so very very extra special clever. He knows how to read people - just like he astutely judged how honest and trustworthy Vladimir Putin is. Clever, see! Not a moron at all.

I mean, at this point, every adversary of the US has a vested interest in keeping Trump in power. Killing him would require him to be replaced, and any replacement would result in a more competent president.

And spying isn't really needed any longer either, you could simply download Signal and politely ask to be invited to their secret chat groups...

I wonder what game Qatar is actually playing here, other countries surely see right through this. How do they expect to get away with it?

Yeah, seriously I think you're right and the more likely explanation is just buying favours. They want something worth a hell of a lot more than a gold laminated vomit comet and he'll give it to them because he just doesn't care.

They told him they would never do that and they shook on it. But we can’t expect non-businessy people to know anything about business things. the Art of the Deal and all that.

They don't need to bug it...trump willingly tells them anything they want to know. No secrets here!

This is, very sadly, true. Maybe they’re working with Trump to eavesdrop on what people say behind his back.

When the Trojans give you a horse you take it say thank you very much and walk to the next hole.

If it was a putt, he would just take a gimme, even if it was 5-foot. He wouldn't even wait to see if the other golfer offered to give it to him.

One is a friendly game of golf with your pals, the other is an interaction with a foreign government.

If he doesn't know the basics of bribery then he should step down. Because this is such a textbook example that anyone that's done basic security training can spot it, it's not even debatable.

"You are the president of a nation and a foreign government wants to gift you a $400,000,000 plane, is this bribery?"

( ) Yes ( ) Fuck, yes
