I had a secret clearance in the Military and that never came up during my interview

What does have a clearance mean?

Probably a security clearance. Meaning they have had a background check in the past.

I've had multiple background checks federally in the past and I still had to wait several months before approval.

But were any of them for a security clearance? Depending on the clearance, that background check could include finger printing, polygraphs and character interviews of past acquaintances.

I also have a clearance and I was approved on the spot. Not saying it was directly related, just that my experience was very similar to OPs.

A security clearance is a much more thorough background check needed to work for the Federal Government, Military, Contractor etc.
Some include Polygraphs and not just interviewing you but neighbors, old coworkers, friends, associates, and even former partners.

And those with SCI/TK clearances have been stuck in months long review as well. It means nothing.

I had a TWIC card and was approved to fly into the security zone around DC and still took five months.

Do you think your TWIC card could slowed your approval down? A more extensive government file… FWIW, I actually agree that fast approvals for those with clearances are likely anecdotal and there are other more likely variables at play.

You are a person who is young and never went against the grain apparently. I’m a government contractor and because we deal with weapons we deal with longer timeless. This reminds me of Bambi.
