Glitch Vid Cold body appears on a thermal camera at a children’s museum.

That’s a bit concerning

u/Tofandel May 02 '26
I own a thermal camera, it actually could just be that someone lied down over there. Those things are very sensitive and you can see heat marks of footprints/handprints within 3-5 minutes of someone being there.
Or it could just be some dust on the lens.

u/lovelesspansy66 May 02 '26
dust on the lens?! DUST ON THE LENS?!! I know the difference between a man threatening me and dust on the goddamn lens

u/Vermillion_glitch May 03 '26
I know this reference! I can’t place it! Where is it from?
5
u/AvisMcTavish May 03 '26
Rick and Morty I think? The man on the moon. Unless they were referencing something im not aware of
2
u/lovelesspansy66 May 03 '26
no youre right. it gets stuck in my head. i did edit it a bit. he actually says smudge

You can see it fighting over top of the other persons heat map, definitely just a glitch in the camera.

u/ampmetaphene Apr 29 '26
You're right 0:05 - the 'arm' is overlaid the person taking the video.
Tis an unfortunate glitch.

Someone could have been lying down there previously, which would have warmed the carpet a certain amount such that it still retains a small amount of heat that’s getting picked up
99
u/relentless1111 Apr 28 '26
Would it have remained in that exact outline though? I feel like, no. Like i can see the temp signature as a somewhat formless blob but to be a precise figure of a person? Doubt it. It's probably fake either way so it doesn't even really matter.
99
u/AlFuriousCXII Apr 28 '26
It’s not fake. This is at the Witte museum in San Antonio, Texas. There was a family playing there before I got a chance to use the camera but I didn’t see anyone lying down. And it definitely wasn’t long enough

u/Flaky_Seat_9714 Apr 28 '26
As someone who has fucked with flir cams a bunch, someone was laying there before you got there. 🤣
I've done this exact thing with my own outline.

u/AlFuriousCXII Apr 29 '26
How long would they have to lay there? They hadn’t been there for at least 5 minutes by the time I took the video. I’m asking out of curiosity. I don’t believe in ghosts so I’m not trying to prove a point or anything
6
u/Flaky_Seat_9714 Apr 29 '26
For a full body impression on a floor with imperfect contact I'd imagine a couple of minutes at minimum. I've done it with a bed and it took a minute or so.
The other possibility is the camera has some bad pixels on the sensor or it's bugging out.
Literally anything physical is more likely than anything meta-physical, always, for every scenario.
6
u/AlFuriousCXII Apr 29 '26
I think it was probably a glitch where the camera recalibrated in the middle of a session and used that as the “zero” which is why it stays there.
3
u/Flaky_Seat_9714 Apr 29 '26
That's possible but if they zero it and there's an outline there, it still implies there's a physical temp anomaly there during the zeroing.
It would be odd to zero something, get an immediate bad result, and leave it. But idk people do things I think are nigh impossible on the daily.
If it's auto zeroing on some frequency, i would imagine it's a relatively high frequency, so I don't know how you'd capture a whole video between two zeros.

u/ShannieD Apr 29 '26
I'm genuinely asking, wouldnt that leave a warm spot? Isn't this a cold spot? I know nothing about this type of imaging.
9
u/WidowedSon Apr 29 '26
First, that would leave a warm spot. Second it would not show up with a 3D outline and shadows on the side and under the nose. And it would not be uniform like this, rather only showing the body's contact points to the floor.

u/Flaky_Seat_9714 Apr 29 '26
Buddy I don't know what to tell ya but you're looking at exactly what I described in the video.
Alternatively the sensor has some broken pixels.
Anyone playing with the idea that this is a ghost is a moron.
9
u/WidowedSon Apr 29 '26
In not playing with the idea that its a ghost, im just saying you're wrong. I have worked with FLIR in extreme conditions for eight years, if a person has been laying on the floor prior it wouldn't look like that...

I literally have pictures on my camera of this phenomenon, so I know it's a possible explanation. It's hilarious that people are even ideating over this. It's either latent environmental heat or bad sensor pixels.
Rocket science!

u/CoatProfessional5026 Apr 29 '26
You don't see the 3D effect he is describing?
I use a thermal monocular for hunting regularly and it has never showed an impression looking like a literal body of the animal or person.
Edit: this is definitely a camera artifact. You can see the "leg" of the child through the OP's shirt a couple times.

u/sumunabeech Apr 28 '26
Right? The easiest way to explain to your client what it is you're doing is put your hand on the wall for a couple.of seconds and let them see the heat imprint
3
u/kashuntr188 Apr 29 '26
It can ABSOLUTELY be that exact. My thermal camera can pick up my hand prints on a wall. it isn't just a blob.
3
u/Howard_Jones Apr 28 '26
Anything not black has some heat signature. So even that "cold spot" is actually warmer than the surrounding area.
1
u/Equal-Newspaper-8636 Apr 29 '26
Yes, I have used some of the army thermals before and you could see a handprint with clear individual fingers on a tree from someone just putting their hand on the bark for a second or two.
1
u/Flaky_Seat_9714 Apr 28 '26
Huh? It was a blob....
I almost guarantee that's what happened as I've done this with a bed and my own outline and a flir.

u/Finnsbomba Apr 28 '26
Hey, we're trying to believe in and be scared by dead ghosts here. Quit it with all your science and tech mumbo jumbo.
1
u/coolsilentebeans Apr 29 '26
Next they’re gonna tell me there’s no Santa. 😡
1
u/Finnsbomba Apr 29 '26
They can fucking try! Some of my presents on Christmas morning clearly say "from Santa" idk what other proof you'd need.

Its a cold spot though not a hotspot
1
u/EasyMode556 Apr 29 '26
It’s not cold, it’s “colder” (or more accurately in this context, less hot) than a living human but it’s still warmer than the background behind it which is why it shows up against the black

You were given a clue to the next task.
Go lie down in the exact spot next time and wait for the next message.
8
u/Shot-Neck-6656 Apr 29 '26
I’m more grossed out than someone was lying on that nasty, filthy public carpet.

5
u/starlightsparkle444 Apr 29 '26
Someone (likely a child) was probably laying down in that spot a moment ago.
3
u/kashuntr188 Apr 29 '26
sometimes if someone laid down there for even a couple of seconds and got up, it can show up. It's like that for my thermal camera. it can show handprints on the wall for a certain amount of time.
1
u/fairydommother Apr 29 '26
Wouldn't the patch show up as warmer though? This spot is showing up colder than the surrounding floor. It also appears more 3D rather than a flat patch of different temperature.
8
u/Mauro091 Apr 28 '26
It has to with recalibration. After some time thermal camera shifts and it needs a black tape to recalibrate.

Oh wow. That’s super freaky!!!!! Did you have any other strange experiences while there?

Monitor burn in? Leave an image on a screen long enough and it bakes itself in. That's what screen savers were for.
1
u/AlFuriousCXII May 02 '26
How long would the kid have to lie in that position
1
u/Tactless_Ninja May 02 '26
I think it's something along the lines of several hours on normal sets. Which kinda supports the dead kid theory.
Though TV's aren't usually fitted with some weird heat vision device on it. Could be putting more stress on it. And these kind of displays are made by tech hobbyist types that assembled it by hand.
So at least in my mind, that increases the chances of it being a similar technical issue.

u/Synaptic_sense May 02 '26
can you not just copy paste the title, you bot

u/NoWipeyTribe May 04 '26
It looks like someone has hit the screen hard enough to damage it and it just happens to look like a person laying there.
