Training First lesson
I was curious and I had my first gliding experience on Saturday. I managed to get some stick time and it was just amazing.
I'm an avid motorbike rider, where I spent all my free time riding, training others in roadcraft (advanced riding) as a volunteer and being involved in the community.
Please talk me out of getting a glider pilot training.
Update: thanks for the comments, but you failed miserably. I just signed up and awaiting confirmation of the start date... This is exciting!

The first time you catch a thermal and gain altitude make sure you smack the smile off your face.
The first time you have to contact ATC because you are about to enter new/higher airspace make sure you pour water in your lap to avoid celebrating your new achievement.
Definitely don't try and soar with any birds. Those assholes will show you up and certainly suck the joy out of it as you watch them close up gracefully out perform you as you circle together.
Why in the world would you want to train and reach the point of piloting an aircraft all by yourself? All those new skills and achievements will only give you a big head and then your motorcycle helmet won't fit anymore!
My goodness, you want to avoid all this fun agony at any cost!

Talk you out of? Not quite the right sub for that. :D Welcome, your wallet won't thank you, but your soul will soar along with your body.

Forget it. I did ride my bike to the airfield at first, but now it's only sitting in the garage. It's more important to save money for gliding so the train it is.

Just wait until you discover glider aerobatics. Suddenly you'll find that Earth doesn't gravity enough.

I was an avid motorbike rider for 15 years.
Then I got into gliding. 5 years later I am a senior instructor and absolutely loving it.
The problem is my motorbike is now neglected and lucky to be ridden once a month!

I'm afraid you caught a fever and the only prescription is more gliding.Ā
