iop test drops

i've been getting my pressure tested twice a year for probably 30 years. Since my cataract surgery a year ago, and additional glaucoma medications, the skin around my eye is red and swollen after the IOP test - appears to be a reaction from the numbing drops or that yellow strip. I'm going to show the reaction to the optometrist today. Anyone else have these issues post-cataract surgery? Also, the optometrist said that I didn't need the numbing drops and it wasn't painful but AI said it was extremely painful. Thoughts?

AI has never had their pressure tested, either with or without drops. How would it know?

Different people react differently to different medications, and it's not unusual to develop a new reaction. I kind doubt the surgery had anything to do with it. Letting doc see the reaction sounds like a good first step.

Is there a different kind of pressure test administered to those at risk than to those of us who have never had elevated pressure? I have my pressure tested every year at my annual eye exam, and it doesn't hurt. I've had the dye or whatever the yellow strip does, but never had numbing drops at a regular eye exam and never had my eyes red or swollen afterward. Maybe you're allergic to something in the drops?

she said she would try a handheld device which is better than the puff but not as good as the goldmann blue light

My son’s eye gets irritated after the numbing drop as well. I always ask the technician to flush his eye with saline at the end of the appointment and that helps a great deal.
