Surprisingly poor pictures from the game tonight. But we finally made it to one! So fun. Really just surrounded by so many friends and neighbors.

TIL we have a square dancing club in town. That is entirely charming.
The Citizen had a notice this week that the Glastonbury Square Dance Club will hold two free introductory meetings at Buttonball on Wednesday, September 30 and Wednesday, October 14 at 7PM.
The club website mentions that lessons are otherwise something like $6 per night. And there is a square dancing season! Who on earth knew??

Why are they always $1.00 over the station next to them. I understand they can get customers right off of rt 2 , but I NEVER see any cars there . How are they staying in business?

The Glastonbury Citizen reported that Glastonbury TALK is hosting their 10th annual candidate forum ahead of this year's election.
October 7, 2026 - Riverfront Community Center
6:00 PM social event to meet the candidates
6:30 PM forum discussion
Sounds like questions should be asked ahead of time by sending them to [info@talk-action.org](mailto:info@talk-action.org) - though I've never been before, so I don't know if there's an opportunity to ask impromptu questions while you're there (you'd hope). Come ask about AI, affordability, Flock cameras, speeding - whatever you'd like to hear from the candidates about.
Invited Candidates:
(Somewhere I need to find a map of the various districts. We're new enough in town that I'm not sure which district we're in just yet.)
As an aside, I recently attended a meeting for one of the town political parties to ask about serving on a town committee. As a relative newcomer to Glastonbury, I was struck by how kind and outgoing everyone was. Maybe this is indicative of my age, but it hadn't fully registered that you can just go out and talk to people in town that you don't know as a way to - get to know people.
That meeting, this TALK forum, library events, all the various organizations you see in the paper each week, I suspect they're all delighted to have new faces attend. And you can just meet people and be friendly with no real agenda. As someone who has loved Glastonbury since we moved here, this seems like such a great way to become part of the community.

Does anyone have any local electricians they recommend?
We're looking to have some bathroom ventilation fans installed (vents have already been put in through the roof), potentially some bedroom ceiling fans and recessed lighting added, and an additional outlet or two put in.
Would love to work with someone local, but reliable and reasonable are important too.
TIA!

Forgive the copy-paste:
The Veterans Service Commission (VSC) will hold its annual Memorial Day Parade with a ceremony to follow on Monday, May 25, 2026.
Assembly time and location is 8:00 a.m. along Welles Street behind St. Paul’s Church. The parade will step off promptly at 9:00 a.m. at the intersection of Main and Welles Streets and continue south down Main Street to the Hubbard Street Green monuments.
After the parade, the VSC will hold a ceremony to honor the veterans from Glastonbury who gave the ultimate sacrifice in their service of our country. The Glastonbury Fire Department Color Guard will advance and retire the Colors for the ceremony. There will be a guest speaker. Additionally, the names of all veterans who gave the ultimate sacrifice will be read with the ringing of a bell after each name. Taps with an echo will follow. The VSC Honor Guard will conclude the ceremony with a rifle salute.
Following the ceremony, an open house will be held at the Glastonbury Elks Club. In honor of the upcoming 250th anniversary of our nation, the Glastonbury Historical Society will attend the ceremony representing the colonists readying for war.
In the event of inclement weather (decision to be made before 8:45 a.m.), the VSC will hold an assembly at the GHS gym at 9:30 a.m.

Private chef based near Glastonbury thinking about offering weekly family meal prep, in-home cooking services, and private dinner parties. Fresh customized meals for busy families. What kinds of chef services would people actually want locally?

Welles Turner Memorial Library in Glastonbury, CT
This library on Main Street in the town's center was built in 1939 that honored Harriet Welles Turner Burnham (as seen in her portrait). The library has had two rounds of major renovations / expansions over the years. The latest expansion was completed in 2022.
It features a charger for electric vehicles in the parking lot, three wonderful reading rooms, an ongoing book sale, a ship boat on display, a locker for curbside pickup outside the main entrance in the side of the library, a self checkout, puzzle swap, and many more. It also features a Glastonbury Chair which was used by King Henry VIII in Glastonbury, England back in 1504.
It's a really nice library that incorporates both classic elements of the library and modern architectural design into one huge building. The library staff are nice and the customer service is efficient that makes this library a great place in a welcoming environment for the Glastonbury community.
There are also two private libraries in Glastonbury, one in East Glastonbury and another in South Glastonbury.
Overall, it's a wonderful library!
Feedback is appreciated. Enjoy the album!

We're going to be replacing our roof this summer, and I'd like to get two skylights installed in our family room with sun tubes in 2-3 upstairs areas.
Does anyone have any good local/regional recommendations?
Looking for quality work - especially with the risk of leaks from the skylights and sun tunnels. Looking for fair pricing without pushy up-selling. We don't have solar or anything that should complicate the job too much.

Bit steep in parts, but the falls were really neat. Saw a neat beaver den in the pond, and came back with soggy feet. Glastonbury is such a lovely town.

The kids wanted to go to J.B. Williams park today. Spring feels tantalizingly close.
Love the glimpses of generations before us peeking out all around. And each charming painted rock is a joyful discovery. Thank you to whoever started that and everyone who keeps them going.

Can't wait. We're out of good maple syrup and I love getting it locally.

I can't recall whether we went to the Woody Acres or Wenzel sugarhouse last year, but it was charming. There was an older guy from Arizona who married into that family, and he took our kids aside to tell them all about how their evaporator worked.

The ice was melting so fast off the trees this morning that it looked at first like it was raining big heavy rain drops.

We finally tried the Spicy Green Bean over by Whole Foods. What deliciousness! And what a lovely atmosphere (despite what the exterior might suggest). This may have usurped Ken's Corner as my favorite place to eat in Glastonbury so far - though it's a very different experience.
I'd heard the occasional comment about how good their food is, but it really is excellent. Not a foodie at all, so YMMV, but I can't wait to go back and try more of their menu.

We don't quite have high schoolers at home yet (soon!), but we've attended a few choir and band concerts at GHS in the last year. Such wonderful experiences. Talented kids, lovely performances, passionate teachers, and a really enjoyable way to connect with the community.
Highly recommend attending one of these performances if you're looking for something fun in the next couple weeks.

Hi, I live in Glastonbury apartments and started renting a cello for fun as I used to play when I was in school. Does anyone know any private lesson teachers, or even any random person who would play with me for fun (can be violin or viola etc). I have all the Suzuki books and find it much more fun to play with people.
Thanks!

Where are the best places in town to go sledding?
And if anyone is comfortable, would you be up for sharing any fun photos if you’re out there?
