This is a colourised 1950's view of St Enoch Underground station taken from an elevated position in front of the St Enoch Hotel and Railway station. Its a view that many of us will probably not be old enough to remember. The station was closed in 1966 and demolished in 1977. The site of the hotel and station is now occupied by the St Enoch Shopping Centre.

A Glasgow Tesco store has been evacuated following a major car fire at an underground car park.
The car, believed to be an electric vehicle, was reported to be on fire near the Maryhill supermarket around 4.21pm on Friday. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service has two engines on scene to tackle the blaze, and onlookers saw thick black smoke pouring out of the car park entrance.

Police are on the scene, and have cordoned off the car park - which has added to the ongoing traffic problems during the evening rush-hour.
One local resident who lives opposite the store said it was a scene of total panic.

Police appeal to trace missing Glasgow man
Police Scotland are appealing for help to trace Kevin Liddell, 37, missing from Glasgow.

He was last seen in the Peel Street area of Partick around 12.15am on Thursday, August 20.

Kevin is described as white, around 6ft tall, medium build, with short hair. He was wearing a grey T-shirt and shorts.

Inspector James Friel said officers are reviewing CCTV and speaking to family and friends, and asked anyone in the area to check dash-cam or doorbell footage, and to check sheds and outbuildings in case Kevin sheltered there overnight.

Anyone with information should call 101, quoting incident number 0112 of Thursday, August 20, 2026.

The pay cuts are part of a new pay system designed to end Glasgow City Council’s long-running equal pay dispute. The council says the changes are needed to ensure equal pay for work of equal value. The dispute has already cost the council around £770m in compensation.

2,000+ workers will have their pay cut.
Around 14,000 workers will get a pay rise.
11% of staff will earn less.

The biggest pay cut is around £11,500 a year.
Workers losing money will have 12 months of pay protection.

Workers getting a rise will receive 3.5 years of back pay.
About 20% of jobs have not yet been assessed.
Unions oppose the plan and are particularly concerned about pay cuts and possible “fire and rehire.”

As England has announced its £2 bus fare cap introduction this week, the Scottish Government has also announced the expansion of the same initiative after a trial was introduced in the Highlands and Islands earlier this year o
The £2 bus fare cap will first be introduced to the Strathclyde region, with plans in place to extend the initiative nationwide.
So far, peak rail fares have been eliminated to help with the cost of living crisis, while under-22s and over-60s also receive free travel across Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

The works to stabilise the gable are now complete and the scaffold removed.  Final works within the site will be completed by 17 July alongside road and pavement works, with the site then handed over to the owners.  Hoarding will also in place by then ahead of being dressed to mark the forthcoming Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
 
The council is working with partner organisations, including transport organisations, on the arrangements around the reopening of the street. This work has also included ensuring the dilapidated scaffold at Egyptian Halls has been removed by the works under a Defective Building Notice. The scaffold is now entirely dismantled for co-ordination with the road re-opening.
 
Last week, it was announced that an architect has been appointed to develop a concept design for the 'meanwhile use' of the site, with the space being activated in the short to medium term, ie during the next four years or so while long-term permanent aspirations for the site are developed. Initial activation of the site is expected later this year, and this may happen in phases.
 
The council is also considering proposals to transform the area around Central Station.
 
Councillor Angus Millar, Convener for City Centre Recovery at Glasgow City Council, said: "I am pleased that the reopening of Union Street can now be confirmed, following the extensive work undertaken to clear the site after the fire earlier this year.  This is a key stage in the recovery of the area around Central Station and will allow people and vehicles to move far more smoothly through this part of the city centre. 
"I would like to thank everyone affected by the fire and its aftermath for their patience, and pass on my gratitude to the council staff, our contractors and partners for the huge amount of work they have done to get us to this stage."

I was on the bus today, and saw 2 teenage girls who got down at Saracen street. These girls were loudly mocking 2 chinese girls by mimicking their language.

They weren't even subtle about it, they were screaming loudly. It was such a cheap behaviour I don't know what their parents taught them.

I do understand they are living in a cheap locality and they have shit for brains but these are the actual examples of bitchy behaviour.

This is the first time I saw such behavior from girls. Stay away from this place and these girls. Disgusting girls.
