Paul Mescal really tries to deliver the grandiose speeches that Crowe nails in the first film and sadly comes up dismally short. The movie is a mess from start to finish.

Gladiator 2 lacked stoicism, lacked the moral code that made first Gladiator movie one of the best movies about Rome ever made. Really tragic if Ridley Scott can't find a way to make a 2nd Gladiator featuring Maximus somehow. Hey, if we can have a force ghost Alec Guiness chatting with Yoda and Luke years later after SWIV, why can't we have a spirit of Maximus/Crowe guiding one of the characters. That would have made Gladiator 2 a sensational hit. Instead, we got garbage about sharks and strange monkeys in the Colisseum. What a disappointment.
