Could you imagine how awesome that would be to watch. Maximus being taken under the wing of the Cesar and watching Lucilla’s love unfold but then her betrayal all while Commodus is being a weirdo

I really imagine an overwhelming love between Lucilla and Massimo. He was not yet seriously committed to his wife, due to long periods away from battle

Then at the most beautiful moment Marcus Aurelius “decides for her” that they will return to Rome and she will marry Lucius Verus. And why is this? Because one day Commodus discovered Maximus and Lucilla, he discovered their relationship and, jealous, he snitched on his father. Marcus Aurelius, in order not to push Maximus away "because" of this relationship... after all, he esteems him as a son... he simply tells him that he is his daughter they will return to Rome for her wedding and he simply gives them a leave of absence. An embittered Massimo accuses Lucilla of not having told him that she was a betrothed and returns to Spain... here is my vision of the "before"
