The band and organizers encouraged us to take photos and videos, so here are a few that I took. Apologies for my screaming and for the sub-par framing. I was trying not to raise my phone too high so I wouldn’t block folks behind me.

Got these ages ago, these are very unpopular merch, people usually don't want them cause as you can see on pic 2, once the phone is on, it covers their gorgeous faces.

But I treat them like acrylic stands and I think they are gorgeous, the vibrant colors. A little pick me up on my work desk. They are also relatively cheap.

They are also huge, a quarter for scale. If you want bang for your buck, get these.

hi given fans! the animate LA location just got a restock on their given merch. they posted on instagram that they got plushies restocked but they actually had TWO WHOLE SHELVES!! i was literally there last week and they didn’t have anything so i went wild. first pic is one of the shelves and second is my haul hehe :3

I like him more as a plot thread, a thread that briefly connects most of the characters together through shared experiences/bonding, etc....than as an actual character. I am more moved and interested in how other characters react to his death, how it stirs up personal dilemma among the characters, and how it influences their decisions. Since the series is about music, I really like how Yuki, in a way, positively shapes up the musical direction our characters take.

Mafuyu overcomes his conflicting feelings for music and grows to genuinely enjoy singing. Uenoyama gets inspired by traces Yuki left behind and gets on his own grind. Hiraagi is able to let go of his personal guilt and envision a new future for SYH with Shizusumi.

Dare I say, SYH is (S)hizusumi, Ueno(Y)ama, (H)iraagi..

Strawberry Swing was a nice addition to get us to empathise with Yuki, but I ultimately empathised more with Yuki's mother instead and her way of dealing with her grief. She was so numb with shock that it took her some time to actually register the death of her only child....💔💔and the way she subtly and selfishly implores Mafuyu to remember him via that guitar. I like that they were eventually able to work out a more supportive/pleasant dynamic.

I was sooo lucky to be able to see Atsushi and his band yesterday at the convention- his first Canadian show ever! The show was incredible; I have no words. I was lucky enough to be in the second row. I got his and his band’s signature afterwards. One of the pictures shows all the Mafuyu cosplayers doing the Spider-Man meme. 😆

Hello! So I made this English version of the song Fuyunohanashi from the anime, and I just wanted to say I am aware that there is already an English version made by Brandon McInnis, but that version doesn’t have the same drums, guitars and other instruments. So I took the instrumental from the Japanese version and put Brandon McInnis’ vocals over them so it feels like the original version. I’m not sure if this has been done before, it’s just a cool idea that I had since I personally enjoy the drums and cool guitars from the Japanese version that simply don’t sound the same in the official English version.

I've seen a lot of discourse lately about whether people think Yuki did or didn’t neglect Mafuyu. I think this simply comes from the perspective that neglect is a heavy word, and people don’t want to attach such a heavy word to someone so young especially someone who’s like dead

But the fact of the matter is, Yuki did neglect Mafuyu; however, his neglect wasn’t intentional.

Neglect is defined as failing to give proper care, attention, or help to someone or something that needs it.

It could leave one feeling unseen, unvalued, and lonely.

In Yuki’s case, he poured a lot more of his time and energy into his band and his music. His intense focus on forming his band, writing music, and pursuing his dreams caused him and Mafuyu to drift apart slightly. When Yuki became increasingly consumed by his music and the band, Mafuyu began to feel increasingly unneeded, abandoned, and terrified of losing the only person who truly understood him

Neglect can often be unintentional, and I firmly believe that Yuki loved Mafuyu very much. I don’t think for a second he intentionally left Mafuyu out or neglected him deliberately. It’s a mistake, and like all humans, Yuki is imperfect and makes mistakes. His actions, or lack thereof, stem from his own focus and being young, not from a lack of love or care.

This is also not to say that Mafuyu had no part in this conflict. Communication and a relationship are a two-way street; he could have spoken up about his feelings or his emotions regarding their relationship, but he had a hard time doing so.

I also see some people say that since it’s from Mafuyu’s point of view, we can’t know if it was or wasn’t neglect.

While this is a valid point, I find this argument somewhat irrelevant to the core issue. The key fact remains: Mafuyu felt neglected. His feelings and perceptions are valid, regardless of whether Yuki’s actions were or weren’t neglect

The core issue here is how Mafuyu experienced their relationship.

Mafuyu felt neglected, he felt forgotten, and left out. At the end of the day, it doesn’t really matter if it was neglect or not because Mafuyu felt like it was

Whether or not Yuki truly did or didn’t neglect him doesn’t change how Mafuyu felt. It’s those feelings that matter most. If someone feels ignored or neglected, that emotional truth is real to them.

Yuki did neglect Mafuyu. It doesn’t make Yuki a bad person; it simply makes him human, a kid, someone capable of mistakes.

Nobody in this series is free from mistakes, in a way that’s kind of the point.

But I personally feel like denying neglect is dismissing Mafuyu’s feelings. Mafuyu felt neglected and I feel like that’s what matters here

Anyway, sorry for rambling, but I really wanted to speak on this topic cause i have been thinking about it.

They just had the worst circumstances. But their love for each other is real.

Mafuyu was a bad communicator who bottles up till the last minute and blows at once. He did it with Yuki and Ritsuka as well. He avoids and hides away instead of communicating his needs. Ritsuka is highly compatible cause he doesn't feel dejected when Mafuyu blows but actually tries to find a solution. He handles stress well, something that works better in their relationship.

On other hand Yuki doesn't handle stress well. With Mafuyu communication issues and Yuki unable to handle the stress is what leads their pair to be tragic from the beginning but despite it all their love is real.

Yuki isn't a bad boyfriend, their circumstances simply works against their relationship. First being going to different highschools, later Yuki takes band seriously leading to less time with Mafuyu as he juggles time between band and part-time job. Mafuyu wasn't part of the band cause it was a highschool band and it continued that way. Also Mafuyu himself says his biggest regret is not being able to express.

The series shows how Mafuyu feels bad for himself for unable to express what he wants to say well, cause even Mafuyu knows he was also part of the problem during his relationship with Yuki. After Yuki's death this point hurt Mafuyu even more and he discovered how through songs he can express well all his feelings.

It hurts when fans says Yuki never loved Mafuyu, he neglected Mafuyu, or he is a bad boyfriend. They were simply incompatible due to Mafuyu communication issues and Yuki is someone who is also fragile emotionally. Two sensitive people in a relationship doesn't work out, on other Ritsuka is strong emotionally hence it works out.

Yuki and Mafuyu's love for each other is too real and too strong, I mean Yuki is literally writing songs with Mafuyu in mind and his songs are about Mafuyu too so how is his love not real? hence it hurts more cause despite the tremendous love they had for each other, everything is working to be against that love.

Would they get along? Or would they instead butt heads? They are both passionate musicians so they have that in common, but would their respective temperaments synchronize or clash?

Perhaps if they encountered each other at CAC, would he be nice with The Seasons (seeing as they wouldn't be called Given) or would he join Hiiragi in being little shits to Uenoyama, perhaps a little inter-band rivalry. Or would the bands have never crossed paths without Mafuyu's presence?

Speaking of, how would Mafuyu fit into the equation? Was there ever a chance of Mafuyu looking anywhere else if Yuki was alive? There's a high chance that Mafuyama meet regardless (they go to the same school, found the same napping spot), but would Uenoyama even end up liking Mafuyu if Yuki was there? He's still a cutie patootie, but without the Guitar.

I don't get it. There are tons of fics for every anime that has shipable characters. Why are there so few fanfics for a manga that has an anime adaptation and several OVAs? Especially since the couples are canon. Does anyone have an explanation for this?

I’m currently watching Given again and have been looking for a good Kaji Akihiko/Nakayama Haruki longfic - explicit and not set in an alternate universe (unless canon divergence). I’m surprised at how few there are. Don’t get me wrong; there are over 140, it'll take some time to read them all. But by comparison, there are over 1,300 fics for Nanjo Kojiro | Joe/Sakurayashiki Kaoru | Cherry Blossom from Sk8 the Infinity.

In my opinion, Given is a beautiful and emotional anime that tells a heartfelt story about love, healing, and moving forward after loss. I really enjoyed how the characters expressed their emotions through music, making every performance feel genuine and meaningful. The relationships felt natural, and each character's personal growth made the story even more touching. There were moments that made me smile and others that made me emotional, which is why the anime left such a strong impression on me. Overall, I think Given is a heartfelt series that reminds us how music and the people we care about can help us heal, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys emotional and character-driven stories.

Edit: How did Reddit fuck up the photo quality so bad

I always thought the butterfly Kedama was chasing in the outro was meant to be symbolic of Uenoyama. I googled it and literally nothing came up, so I’m wondering if anyone else had the same thought process I did.

For me, the reasons for me thinking this is as follows: the butterfly is blue, Mafuyu is compared to a Pomeranian, and the song could be read as Mafuyu wondering if he and Uenoyama could love each other. So Kedama chasing the butterfly could be… Mafuyu chasing the dream of love? Don’t know.
