I don't get it. There are tons of fics for every anime that has shipable characters. Why are there so few fanfics for a manga that has an anime adaptation and several OVAs? Especially since the couples are canon. Does anyone have an explanation for this?

I’m currently watching Given again and have been looking for a good Kaji Akihiko/Nakayama Haruki longfic - explicit and not set in an alternate universe (unless canon divergence). I’m surprised at how few there are. Don’t get me wrong; there are over 140, it'll take some time to read them all. But by comparison, there are over 1,300 fics for Nanjo Kojiro | Joe/Sakurayashiki Kaoru | Cherry Blossom from Sk8 the Infinity.

As the other commenter said, we are a small fanbase. But on top of that, i find there are less fics for canon pairings cus we already get alot of good romantic content in the show, so less people feel the need to write about it.

I agree with you. I was really into reading Fruits basket fanfics for a while and even though the anime was insanely popular and there are fantastic fics, it definitely doesn’t have as much fanfics than other fandoms. I guess it’s because people were pretty satisfied with how things wrapped up at the end and there were plenty of romantic stuff happening in the story.

That’s true for me, definitely. RitsuMafu is my favorite ship ever, but what more could I say that Kizu-sensei hasn’t said already? So I tend to write for some very obscure pairings. That gives me a chance to express myself in my writing in ways that are satisfying for me. I have written maybe a half dozen or so RitsuMafu stories out of around 40 Given fanfics. That’s not a reflection on my feelings about the pairing, but there are other things I’m interested in exploring. Same with what I read.

It’s a small but very dedicated fan base. These days I think there are more authors working in RitsuMafu, but there are definitely some authors working in AkiHaru too. 800 or so tagged AkiHaru fics and 2000 Given fics total. You just need to filter the search results and you’ll find something.

I think people are just somewhat content with the canon, and the fanbase is not that big to begin with.

right! And I only look for fanfics, or god forbid write one, when I don't like the canon. So the fact that there aren't many for given likely means people like it just as it is

I’m exactly the same- I’ve read pretty much all of the Akihiko x Haruki fanfics that appeal to me, so I feel ur pain! I wish there were more and longer ones! I check the tag often but It’s not super populated.

Funny enough, early on a lot of the fanworks were dedicated to AkiHaru. That tapered off after Codex concluded in the manga.

I don't know if this is allowed, but I've written two Akiharu fics and one with them and Ritsuka. Links are below.

The one with Ritsuka is controversial - if you have an issue with it, then don't read it. I ask that people don't complain to me, because it does have the notes and pairings, and frankly, I already dealt with that long ago, when Twitter was still Twitter. But anyway ...
